How's it looking so far?
I can't tell from the pic... but what mic tips are you using?
Other than that, it looks good!

How would one go about to protect HIPS from yellowing? Paint it?
Don't fix it... just turn it into a sandtrooper!

Hey man, first off, welcome!
Always glad to have new troopers joining the ranks! (even if it's not "right now.")
I wanted to post because I too weighed 275lbs at one point. In fact... I was closer to 300 — though I never weighed back then — for a while.
When I got my first armor I was around 240. That was due to Weight Watchers, exercise and the iPhone app "iFigure".
I am now down to around 195.
I know we're disallowed to talk about "religion" on here, but... I'm gonna "bend" that rule a bit so I can say this is due to prayer first and foremost.
And, secondly, due to Paul McKenna's book and audio CD "I Can Make You Thin."
Just thought I'd throw that in here in case you need some "ideas" or "direction" for the weight loss.
ALSO... I wanted you to know it CAN be done!!!!
(though you probably already know that)
Now... about armor... you're in the right place!
I'd say the greatest tip is to start reading.
Start looking at build threads... researching what armors are, the differences between makers and styles and materials. Get a good feeling of what you like and don't like.
Keep a file on your computer with images... categorize them so you can reference things quickly.
Make a bookmark folder for threads and sites that you think MIGHT be helpful... and keep them well organized as well.
Think of this as going to school... or to "The Academy" even.
You're at the first semester of your freshman year — heck, you may still just be registering for classes — but you'll graduate to "trooper" before you know it!
-
I'm curious as to why you haven't finished previous builds... but... I'm more excited about watching this build.
Good luck!

I love it when this topic comes up.
I chose mine because if you write it in Eastern Arabic it looks like my name, "noEl"

You've seen starwarshelmets.com .... right?

Welcome man!
You're in "the right direction" already by being here!
Get in touch with your local Garrison and meet up for a troop.
Also check out the "Getting Started" forum — if you haven't yet already — and just dive in and start reading!
Oh, and feel free to ask questions!!
-
Welcome Steve!
Good to have you here. It's a great place, and you've got some GREAT armor on the way!
-
Welcome man!
There's a lot of question answering going on here too... even though most of us are no where near each other.
-
try switching to 2010.6 view
Yikes!
That made everything black and broken and scary.

thanks...however i can post a warning of the captain america guy...he takes your money and dont deliver
That's true about that guy... but, in his "defense," I think it's because he's flakey to the Nth degree.
I contacted him 2 years ago and heard a lot from him right off the bat then never heard again. I talked to him on the phone even about his reputation and he told me he just gets really far behind on stuff and feels horrible. If that's true, he just needs to stop selling them until he's caught up!!!
So the warning to head is... do NOT send him money.
All that being said, I've wanted a good original "V" costume for a while.
If anyone finds them let us know!
-
...and this place looks like a great place to start
You've got that right!
Welcome man!
-
Welcome Mike!!
-
That story rocks! I love that your dad thought that out like that.

... I'm a boring sod who documents every single step...
Thank God for boring sods!!
One question though: are you building a 2mm or 1mm set of TM armour? If it's 1mm, why not talk to TM about getting a full original style strapping kit?
The thigh strapping is largely the same except the elastic loop is thicker, it is sewn closed and is glued into the armour.
If it's 2mm armour - with it being a lot heavier - I'd recommend a moe robust system with elastic and snaps.
I'm getting the 1.5 mm kit actually. So I asked for the "standard strapping" with it
After 3 sets of armor (the TM ESB will be my 4th) I figure it's about time I get a snap gun.
-
... ive decided to go with ESB for this one. I figured i have the TD and that is ANH, so why not go ESB for my TK build. I will try and document the build as best i can.
Awesome man!
That's the exact thought process I had.
Plus ESB = best movie... so... ya know, there's that.
-
...and its done..that was fast No' ...i mean Bluey!
I made the sig file one file for all the forums because I got so tired of having to change it 100 places if I changed it one.
Well... 3 places.
-
He made it from white craft foam. What's cool is that it's EI quality. What a Dad!!!
I THOUGHT so!
Are there patterns for it?
Great stuff.
-
I wanna know where you got Sophia's armor!
My little girl is going to be wanting some of that soon I can tell ya!
-
...oh and now you have to change your sig banner haha!
