TK-2618 requesting EIB ESB status.[92][FX]
Debater2nd replied to Debater2nd's topic in Request Expert Infantry Status
Yes, your comment about the other rivets is correct...sorry about missing that...didn't occur to me. Yes, I think you're right about the blaster...maybe you can help...what is the hengstler? I thought I'd taken care of that, but I guess I took off the wrong thing. -
TK-2618 requesting EIB ESB status.[92][FX]

The holster is made of black leather. It's the thinner, more flexible kind rather than the thick stuff. There are two rivets holding the knee guard in place, both painted white. The mics are just the standards with the MRCE. Here's a closeup. -
This is my ESB build. A few highlights: Canvas belt Modified MRCE helmet Modded blaster (all add-ons except counter, added extra t-racks and d-ring) Also, I am posting this pretty close to when I requested 501st access. I received my TK ID last week, so if there's any issue with the timing it should be resolved shortly. Thanks!

Yeah, maybe you're right. The snaps worked ok, but when one side of the belt would pop off, it was pretty hard to get it back on while wearing the gloves etc. I'd still like to rivet it if I can, I'm just not sure if I need to have the rivet covers, or if it's ok to just paint them.
-
Does the Velcro actually stay on the canvas? Do you sew it or something?

I need some advice about belt attachment. I have built a canvas belt, and attached the ab belt plate with snaps. However, the snaps seem to pop off way to easily, and so I think I need to make it more secure. I want to rivet it, but after reading around the boards, I realized that I don't have "rivet covers." I guess they didn't come with the ab belt plate. Can I just rivet and paint the rivets white, or it there a better way to do this? I have what will be my first troop coming up this weekend, and I really need to make sure I don't lose bits of my armor! Any suggestions would be great...thanks!

Don't think I've laughed that hard in awhile...the Vader one is the best out of the lot. -
ESB build-in-progress[*FX]
Debater2nd replied to Debater2nd's topic in Build Threads Requireing Maintenance
Good catch on the boots! I forgot to mention in my original post that I have a pair of CAboots on the way. I also noticed that the belt had ridden up for the photos, so next time I'll make sure it's placed correctly. Considering this was the first full fitting, I was happy everything just stayed on! My doopydoos kit got here today, so I'm in the process of modding the blaster. I don't have any of the greeblies, so I guess that's something I'll add later after I find them. The holster is a homemade first try, so it probably is a little big. I'll probably either make another or buy one from someone, but I guess it'll work for now. Thanks for the feedback...this is certainly a work-in-progress! -
Hello all, My name is Dan, and I'm working towards finishing my ESB build. After I finish, I'll be applying to join the 501st, and I wanted to get some opinions on how it's looking now so that I can fix any potential problems. I'm still waiting on my thermal detonator case, which should be here soon, but other than that I think I've got everything I need for basic qualification. I am also planning to close the sides of the abdomen...just haven't gotten to it yet. The only other major thing I'll be doing is continuing to mod the blaster with a doopy-doos kit, which I'm also waiting on, but for now, I think it meets the basic standards for membership. The last photo is my son and I...he seems to like the armor, but I think he has some growing to do! Thanks for the help!

Thermal Detonator Build - Help Needed
Debater2nd replied to Debater2nd's topic in Assembly, Mods, and Painting
Thanks for the suggestions. The kit had a thermal det case, but it was not well-made, and the only part that I could salvage was the plate. I think that was homemade, and the quality was pretty bad, so I'm trying to make my own. However, based on what I'm hearing, it may be easier to just buy one. On that note, if anyone has one for sale, let me know... -
Hello all, I'm trying to put together a thermal detonator case, and I'm stuck. I've got the right length on 2'' pcv grey pipe, and I have the metal clips and plate (which I'd like to replace for one that's sharper). However, I can't figure out what to use for the ends. Is there another option besides using the pre-made kit ends (which I don't have?) Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up on the seller. I don't think I'll buy off of eBay anyway, but I've certainly got some good info about PT armor now! Thanks for the help.

Yeah, the flex was what had me curious. I'm not really used to seeing plastic bend like that. I kind of wonder if the detail is good enough to justify that type of casting...I would be concerned about warping.

I gotta say, I'm getting really gun-shy about posting on here. As I said in almost all of my earlier posts, I'm looking for information. I have looked at many other threads, and the reason for this post was to find out about THIS suit, rather than read general comments. I am not looking to buy anything right now, but I am trying to figure out all of the information that I need to know to be effective. I know this post sounds kind of irritable, and I do apologize for that. My goal isn't to be combative, but I'm not sure why I'd get tagged as an "ebay "kid"" when I haven't bought anything from there. As it turns out, when I am ready to buy, I have consulted members of my local unit, and I have some good leads from very reputable sources...I am doing my homework. This was just part of the process. In all sincerity, thanks for your opinion and concern. I certainly don't mean to belittle that. Incidentally, is armor supposed to bend like it does in his pictures?

Could someone tell me what this is? I've been looking around on the forums, but all I've managed to find out is that HIPS is thinner material (possibly more detailed?), and some people seemed to say it had good detail. I'm still trying to learn about the different armor types, but this is a new one for me. Plus, the seller referred to the 501st, which only made me more curious to see what people on here thought. Thanks. http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-Wars-PT-Stormtroo...#ht_1133wt_1167

Opinions on this armor set
Debater2nd replied to Debater2nd's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Ok, thanks for the help. This is pretty daunting to get into, so I do appreciate all of the comments and suggestions. It sounds like my original plan, which is to get armor from an armorer in the 501st and to get help from my local garrison in assembling it, is the right idea. I'll freely admit that I'm not the most qualified to be cutting etc, but I think that I'll have plenty of help. Thanks for the input. -
Opinions on this armor set
Debater2nd replied to Debater2nd's topic in Hard Armor (General Discussion)
Ok, I'm confused....most of the comments on the board that I've seen talk about the poor quality of the helmet, which I agree is pretty bad. However, there are mixed reviews of the armor. Since I would do the MR CE helmet with the armor, probably modding it to have correct paint schemes etc, is the armor really that bad? I've talked the guy down to 500 for everything, which seems like a fair price. Now, I do have another set of armor lined up (from a person on this board with a good rep), but his would take a lot of work that I'm not sure I could do. Opinions? -

Thanks for the comments...I appreciate the help. Could you include some of the reasons why Rubies is not a good option? Thanks! -
I realize that this will probably get me a bunch of comments telling me how dumb I am, but here goes.... Could you guys check this and tell me what you think? To be honest, I'm not sure what the problem with the Rubies armor is, and I'm unclear about whether this guy fixed the problems or not. My plan would be to get a MR CE helmet to go with this, along with a custom blaster rifle kit and CAboots or TKboots. I've asked him if he can cut out the Rubies helmet and trim the price down. I'm new to this, so I appreciate the help. --------

Hello All, I'm in the process of putting my armor together, and I'm currently looking at helmets. I've opted out of going the FX route, based on both board comments and suggestions from people in my area. I've seen the MR CE stunt edition helmet, which looks pretty good and has been recommended, but I'm having trouble finding it anywhere but Amazon. So, several questions: 1. Is this a good helmet for $239? 2. Is it normally this hard to find, or is the shortage here to stay due to lack of supply? 3. Is there anything comparable that I should be looking at instead of this? 4. Are there any major changes that need to be made to this helmet? Thanks for your thoughts and feedback.
