notthejediyourlookingfor Posted August 20, 2024 Report Posted August 20, 2024 hi i am very new to this, and i have been wanting make a set of stormtrooper armor. I realized that it would be incredibly cost effective for me to use 3d print, so i wanted to ask if anyone knewif 501st had some approved stormtrooper stls. Particularly the galactic armory set, cause i cant tell if that is approved. Quote
gmrhodes13[Staff] Posted August 20, 2024 Report Posted August 20, 2024 Which version Stormtrooper are you looking at making? Approval is given by your GML (garrison membership liaison) so you may want to contact them. I've not seen any original trilogy 3D files which have been approved. There are also so many vac form plastic kits available for original trilogy that there really has not been a lot of work into 3D files. Rogue one and New Era costumes there are some files but again it really depends on what version you want to build. I have not seen anyone with the GA files approved as yet For Rogue One take a look at this build thread which was approved with some work As many find with 3D printing the down sides is there is no flex and you have to stay out of direct sunlight. Also think you need to make sure 3D files have no visible lines and because they need painting can require a lot of upkeep. 1 Quote
JBar[TK] Posted August 21, 2024 Report Posted August 21, 2024 You're welcome to make a stormtrooper in any way you want but in my opinion I strongly encourage an ABS kit for this. 3d printing is amazing but there is a ton of cost in time in printing this. The vendors that most people use have been vetted which makes approval much easier on your GMLs. If the armor isn't just right you may find yourself starting all over. Plus there's all the work of sanding and painting and for me I'd rather do just about anything, mow lawns, walk dogs, etc and pick up the money to buy a kit rather than spend weeks sanding and painting. ABS plastic is also very flexible compared to 3d prints that will crack and shatter pretty easily. ABS cracks too but it's easy to fill and reinforce. That being said if you decide to move forward with printing this is still the best place to be for information on how to continue. 2 Quote
