TK-8687[TK] Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Hi, well i was wondering, if i'm going to be repainting the entire helmet, does it all need to be sanded????? thanks????? Quote
cr4nky Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Yes, I would sand and wetsand before I put on a few coats of primer Quote
Murray1134[501st] Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Just a minor hijack here.. Any recommendations on a good primer? I've looked in stores and can't seem to find anything good that will bond with plastic. Quote
cr4nky Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Don't you guys have Rustoleum or Krylon primers over there? AFAIK that's what most of the guys in the US use. If not, there's sure to be someone in here that has a good tip. I'm in Norway, so we don't have a single one of your paints over here. Quote
TK-8687[TK] Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 i just started priming, i used Rustoleum professional! i hope it doesn't turn out grainy!!!!! Quote
TK-8687[TK] Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 ok well, first couple coats are drying, but the it came out grainy, it might sound like a total airhead, but i know if i use gloss paint it will not come out smoothly, how do i get rid of this effect? will i have to smooth (sand) the primer all the way out???? thanks, i have no idea what to do!!! Gunchy Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 it shouldnt be grainy at all.. you might have to very lightly sand it again and go over it with the rustoleum white, but place the can closer to the helmet. I'm guessing that its to far away and the helmet is catching very diffused particles of paint, not enough to cover the entire surface, dont worry about doing a few coats as long as they are thin. TK-8687[TK] Posted November 21, 2008 Author Report Posted November 21, 2008 thanks, i'll try to sand it a lot...lol!!!!! Quote
cr4nky Posted November 21, 2008 Report Posted November 21, 2008 When you've a couple of coats of primer on, you need to sand and wetsand again! This will make it nice and smooth for the next layer. Use at least 400-600 grit wetsand paper. Quote
