While I have had friends in the costuming community -- many within the Star Wars community -- this is my first foray into really learning more about getting started with a Stormtrooper suit. A friend of my was moving recently and was kind enough to sell one of his suits, so I'm figuring out how to use it right now. I don't have a neck collar, boots, nor black body suit. Per his input the suit wouldn't qualify me to any degree for something as awesome as the 501st but honestly I'm just happy to get started.
