TK-8224[501st] Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Hi! I'm building the Thermal Detonator, and I see that it's supposed to be grey. Can I use the same grey paint that I'll use for my helmet (glossy Humbrol #5)? And does that exist in bigger cans or just those tiny ones? Or should I use a different paint? Quote
TK6540UKG Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Humbrol #5 is perfect for the job.. You don't need a bigger tin either.. I done mine with a small tin, and it hardly used any at all... even with 2 coats. You don't need to paint the whole thing, which saves paint. The parts where the end caps sit, don't need paint, and the bit behind the 'button plate' or whatever it's called doesn't need it either. Keeping the plastic in those areas bare, gives a better bond when you glue those bits on.. Quote

cr4nky Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Or Testors 1138 (which is kinda similar to HUmbrol #5). I found Testors easier to get a hold of in Norway... Quote

ThayNerd[TK] Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I've used the Testors 1138 and it does the job fine. Quote
tk0000[501st] Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Did you air brush or paint brush? How were the originals done? Any pics of the screen used ones? Quote
Splat Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Check Here about 3/4 down the page for a couple good shots of the ANH detonator details. Quote

Mine was done with a brush... apply just the right amount, and you don't get any brush strokes showing. I believe the originals were made from grey drain piping, so had no need to be painted. Quote
thealexbeast Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Can these humbrol or testers paints be found at the local home depot or sherman williams, or do i need to go to a hobby shop for them? Quote
