Captain, My Captain Phasma TFA Build Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi Every Body, I was advised, even though i have a build thread going on in our Forum, I should put one on FISD forum, since there are so many builders here, that I would be given plenty of good advise and help.

So here goes, As you guessed I am building a Captain Phasma, Im  only 163cm tall, so we are having to chop a fair bit off my armor, for the fitting, and still trying to remain true to its details and profile,  The Guy I have helping me, this is his first armor build too, But he builds props and Mandos, so he has some experience,  and I am ever so greatfull for his help.

When I got my kit it sat there for a few months, firstly it arrived just after I had surgery, so couldn't touch it, then when able, I was scared, no matter how much research I had done, I was too scared to cut. so I started seeking help with the build, and finally found it

My helmet came separate to the kit, and was completed, all though it looks amazing, that was probably my first mistake, as I brought it before I was able to find a kit supplier and well now when we paint my armor, we might have to repaint the helmet, so it matches, unless we are lucky enough to find the same shade as it, but I do doubt that will happen..

Then I made the soft parts while waiting, my gaskets and Cape,  I do love my cape, but now thinking that might have been a mistake, as I need to hope it fits properly once the armors done, if not, thankfully I am thinking I might only have to redo one panel, but thats a wait and see.

There is another phasma builder, since I started, popped up in my town, she isnt a member of 501st yet, but it is great cause as we are both new to this process, we are bouncing off each other, and its interesting to see the differences in the kits,,  just as well she is Phasma Height, I am  not, hers is fiberglass, and mine is ABS,  so cant wait till they are both completed, it will be awesome.

I will post picks in the thread, on my progress, and add questions on some that I have, any helpful advice, is truly truly appreciated. Thank you

Here is my first concern, my cod piece needs to be trimmed, but i think my chest piece is too long as well, my back I think looks too long as well, bur not too sure, as we dont see the back from the cape.

just to show you a rough idea of what we have had to trim off, here is my shoulder bells,

this is our process to date,

also there is a debate going on, the little dots, and the thing in the center of the chest, some say paint them black, some say cut them out and put black tape behind,

i am unsure which way to go, and dont wanna cut if thats the wrong way, for approval,

I appreciate any and all advise and help, thank you

As I said on our forums Patricia it's hard to size down armor, difficult to adjust some pieces and leave others, I think your chest, back, ab and boot covers will have to be sized down as they just look too big as they are.

If you look at the CRL photos and compare some sections like the width of the shoulders in alignment to the helmet to yours you will notice the difference. Also the gap between chest and ab boxes. Cod is very large and it will need to come down in size just so you have enough clearance around your thighs.

It's a lot of work but will look much better in the end with the right sizing.

I know this is not a TFA build but Diana's build will show you how much work she had to do to make an OT set of armor look to match her size http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/25919-dianas-rs-props-build-anh-stunt/page-5

Just keep comparing how you are looking to the CRL, I am sure you will get there in the end.

ok I have a question, the fingers i have received, like every thing so so big, now I am just a tad worried about trimming them down,

they are 3D printed, and made out of PLA, now you cant really see it but the print line goes from end to tip, and im worried it might unravel if i start cutting into it.

Shouldn't unravel as it is heated together when printed.

I would still suggest reducing the size of your back piece, from shoulder to shoulder it is very wide, if you compare with the CRL image the helmet is wider than the width of shoulders. Also boot and leg covers, they still look really large compared to the rest.

thanks , good to know on the fingers,

the boot leg covers, that the piece over the ankle so to speak, that you are talking about right?  do you mean length wise shorten them?

if thats the case, thats and easy fix,  but the back piece,  really unsure how i would tackle that, gonna bring up pics now to compare to mine to see what you mean,

sorry to continue on this, but this piece has me stumped, just need to clarify if you mean the back piece itself, or you mean the yoke parts that come from the back piece and come over the shoulders, just if its the back piece itself, I am stumped on how to change it, as we measured it and my shoulders and they are the same size. but if you mean the bits coming over the shoulder I might be able to adjust them, I know the CRL has the helmet wider or about the same size as to where they sit, but looking at screen shots and other approved Phasmas that part on them comes out past where the helmet hits,

so i just need to really clarify before I attempt any more cutting please.  pity I couldnt get you to come over to the next build day and show us, :D  so much easier, lol

so as i have circled in the picture below , is that what you are meaning that area, or the back itself,  Thank you

That is the area, when all else fails compare with the CRL photos, you can see the difference. You can see that the helmet covers the width of the shoulders in the CRL photo, where you have a few inches outside the width of the helmet.

Also look at the boot covers and spats, they look more tapered and smaller than in your photo.

Looking at your shoulder bells you may have trimmed off too much, the curve seems very flat in comparison to the CRL.
