jorkee1101 Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) I was on the verge of buying a stormtrooper outfit from a number of websites namely amazon (rubies costume) and jedi robe but since stumbling upon this website (white armour) I'm now in two minds wether to carry on with my purchase.i only have around £800-£900 to buy one and need it by mid January so money is a problem to get a proper replica like the ones to join 501st. Are the costumes from these sites really that bad? I'm also worried bout wether they will fit me as I'm 5"7 slim with a 32 waist and inside leg and the standard size costume is the one I'm looking at.would this costume still look good and would I really have to make alot of modifications? justjoseph63[Staff] Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Welcome, Bob! If you are interested in joining the 501st, please steer well clear of anything you find online, ESPECIALLY Rubies and jedi robe!!!!! Yes, they are that bad... Your best bet is to get in contact with some of the sellers found here: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/ I would also highly suggest that you get in contact with some of the great folks in the UK Garrison, explain your situation, and they can certainly help to steer you in the right direction. They can be found here: http://www.ukgarrison.co.uk/ Edited December 7, 2015 by justjoseph63 1 Quote
TK 2759[501st] Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 Depends what you want to do with it. If you're looking at joining the 501st Legion, then those costumes won't do without a lot of modifications. There's a pinned topic in regards to vetted vendors, try and find one that's right for you. If you're only looking at wearing a Halloween type costume, those will suffice...
501st armour looks as though we were on the sets of the movies we portray, we go for screen accuracy in 3 different levels. Those two sellers, don't even meet level 1 of screen accuracy...
Sorry for the disappointment... 1 Quote
jorkee1101 Posted December 7, 2015 Author Report Posted December 7, 2015 Thank you for your quick reply and welcome I will take a look at the UK garrison indeed thanks. If you say they are bad then for the price they are charging I'm baffled as to why people buy them as there just being ripped off.if you wasn't that bothered to join 501st would they still do a good job in regards to looks and feel and How much modification would be needed etc? TK 2759[501st] Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 Personally, I think if you were to buy your armour from these two, you'd feel compromised in some fashion, for they really do not look good at all when next to the 501st TKs... There was a t-shirt run with Vader in a phone booth in the UK, with four TKs waiting outside to use the phone. The first TK looks awesome, the 2nd TK stands out like a sore thumb, being a rubies, and the 3rd and 4th you can't make out any real details...
If you think they'd look good, go for it, but I think you'd feel let down once received... justjoseph63[Staff] Posted December 7, 2015 Report Posted December 7, 2015 It's not that they are being "ripped off", it's just that some folks simply do not know that the 501st exists, and just want the armor for Halloween or a special event. Then, when they do find out about us, and find out that their costumes are not able to be approved, they get disappointed. There is actually one UK ebay seller who advertises his kits a "501st approvable", (they are not).. I will not mention his name,.. that would be rude... (but it's rattlehead). Can Rubies' armor be approved? Yes, but to be honest, it takes a lot of effort, and for the price they charge and the time it takes to modify it you are better off purchasing quality armor from one of the vetted vendors here. 1 Quote
