EIB Approved on October 23rd, 2015.

Ā

Ā

Sorry for the long delay. Ā  Ā Five months off from this team build and we have re-grouped for the Centurion application.

We reviewed the DO's instructions and ready to begin work.

Ā

We have ordered replacement chest plate, back plate, and shoulder bridges from ATA.

We took ATA's recommendations to ensure we eliminated the overlap problem for Kris.

Our tools of success. Ā

Ā

MaxiFlex protection gloves

Number Two Pencil

Bendable stainless steel ruler with cork backing (not pictured)

Wiss M3 tin ships (for straight cuts)

Wiss M1 off set tin snips (for angle and close quarter cuts)

Irwin utility knife

Ā

I use these tools because they are the best to cut ABS plastics. Ā This is personal preference only.

I also use them at work. Ā  Ā

Tonight, we will be working on the shoulder bridges. Ā Mark, cut, snap, repeat.

I remove the access plastic first then removing down to the millimeters.

Ā

First timers - Start with a gentle score then go back with about eight slices to get the feel of cutting plastic. Ā  Take your time until the plastic separates and then you can snap it off.

Here's how I remove the edges. Ā  Use a long flexible ruler and mark it with a pencil. Ā I'm leaving 3-4mm between the desired edge and bridge bumps.

Then I will using my offset tin snips to cut.

Ā

Its okay if you're lines aren't perfectly straight. Ā  We'll fix that in the sanding technique below.

Cut.... Ā cut......cut...Ā

Ā

ATA shoulder bridges arrived curved - so the offset tin ships are perfect for this task. Ā  Some armor makers have shoulder bridges that are flat - utility knife, xacto knife, or regular tin snips.

Sanding technique. Ā  Ā If you don't have a belt sander, here's a trick. Ā  Get some plumber's tape (available at any hardware store).

Ā

I'm using Oatey Abrasion Mesh Tape. Ā  Make yourself a belt sander on your cutting board. Ā You will be using this back and forth method to get a smooth edge on your ABS.

Cut about a foot of mesh, tape it down, and go for it.

After you get your desired finish, go ahead and polish it out. Ā  Ā You can also use this opportunity to deburr the edges. Ā Sorry no pics of deburr.

I know my garrison members are laughing at me because I didn't use my belt sander.

Hey guys! Ā It's freakin cold outside and my wife doesn't want any noise after 10:00PM. Ā  And you all know my garage is a mess! Ā Ā  :D

  • 5 weeks later...

Yesterday was a major team build at my workshop. Ā

  • Six garrison members (including my wife).
  • Pancakes and coffee for breakfast.
  • Five TK kits from various makers.
  • Lumpia and pork buns for lunch.
  • More pots of coffee.
  • Last minute run to the fabric store with a side trip to local Vietnamese coffee shop.
  • The Warriors beating the Spurs.
  • Power nap for Kris.
  • Colosseum pizza for dinner.
  • Two hour photo shoot.
  • Sixteen hours straight.

Ā

Ugh.... i'm exhausted. Ā  Ā

Ā

One of our major tasks was to remove the old AM back plate and replace it with the new ATA back plate. Ā  Ā  ATA also recommended to replace the chest and shoulder bridges so that it will blend in well with the rest of the armor. Ā  Big thank you to ATA for their help and quickness to get Kris's armor to California.

Ā

Here are the pictures from yesterday's build. Ā Ā

Ā

Glue the new elastics directly to the back plate.

Ā

Using snap to velcro elastic connections. Ā This gives us the freedom to make adjustments right away.

Ā

The night before we had a last minute session to fix a few items. Ā  Ā I thought it was important to share our thigh ammo pack fixes.

I use a spice lid to make the perfect curves for the ammo pack.

Again, I use my Wiss sheet metal cutters for ABS plastic.

Ā

After cutting, we just used plumbers sanding tape to smooth it out. Ā Here are the finished pictures.
