novicetk
Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the following topics: 1) What differences in accuracy/trooping durability are there between the various thicknesses of armor (e.g. .60, .80, and .90 gauge ABS)? How do these gauges translate into millimeters? Is thicker necessarily better/worse (e.g. 1.5 mm vs. 2 mm)? 2) What's the difference in accuracy/trooping durability between acrylic capped/glossy and uncapped armor? How about lookwise? Are both acceptable under 501st standards? Thanks for the time
TK257[501st]
.90 gauge ABS is the thickest of the three gauges. It's probably also the most durable and least likely to break, crack or otherwise structurally fail. Thinner plastics can yield better detail than thicker, but again, may be less durable. The accuracy of any armor comes from the sculpt, design, and proper assembly more than thickness.
john danter
there's no difference in terms of capped or uncapped dude. It's just more expensive to buy the AC version as that's the stuff with the high gloss shine
