draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Greetings! I am hoping someone can help me with some info. I was starting to make some headway on my build when I totally destroyed my biceps. I was wondering who I would need to contact to get a replacement set and how much they would be. Not ready to purchase right now, unfortunately, but just wanting to know how much I need to save up! I looked on Ebay and all I saw where a set by makerofthings, which I hear is garbage and some that is selling for 48.00 a piece plus shipping meaning it would cost just over $250.00 for the complete set, which sounds a little too pricey. Any information would be appreciated! Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 Unfortunately I got it off Ebay.....before I knew better....So I guess anything I can replace on it would improve it greatly I am still pretty happy with it, except, of course, the biceps... Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Pics of the rest of the kit? That way, we can help you determine which maker might be a suitable match. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Exactly. Every maker uses his own plastic with a different shade And post a pic of your biceps. Maybe they're salvageable Edited October 2, 2012 by Sonnenschein Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 Here is a pic of the armor, which I am pretty sure is an FX recast. I will upload a pic of my ruined biceps in a sec. No, they are not salvageable, however, I will post so you can have a good chuckle at the noob's rookie mistake! Ha Ha! Or at least so no one else makes the same mistake. Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 So I was trying to round them a little bit. I don't have a heat gun, but I read you can soften up the plastic by putting it in boiling water for 10 minutes, then shape it. I have actually done this successfully on a few parts already, such as rounding out shims, etc. Yeah. Not this time. Lesson learned. Quote
tkrestonva[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Ouch. It stands to reason that if you can reshape your biceps with hot water (which you clearly can), you can reheat them with hot water and attempt to undo the warping. It doesn't seem like you have much to lose by trying, anway. I don't really know where you can get a replacement set of FX biceps that isn't overpriced, as FX armor "officially" went out of production a few years ago. Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 I know. This is the recast from <gasp> Trekfreek. I figured ANY would be better than what I have. Particularly after what I have done to them. Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 ouch indeed! But don't give up. You can use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun. Use a glass bottle as a template to make them round. As Brias said, there's nothing to loose. Amother idea from the boba builders: find a round plastic container, shape it with a knife or dremel, glue a cover strip on ot, et voila! Still better Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 I may give that a try. A little frustrated to go work on it right now I was so happy with my test fit, I was just sizing up and measuring straps. Got them all done today and was getting ready to put together the whole upper part when I said to myself, "I think I will reshape the biceps a little bit for a better fit!". I reshaped them all right! Guess I will work on the legs for a bit, I guess, when I get up get the nerve Quote
CRISTONAMO Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 Ap does replacements and spare parts! You just have to email him and ask if he has any in stock. And he does everything quick and efficient Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 2, 2012 Author Report Posted October 2, 2012 Excellent! You wouldn't happen to have his email address, would you? Quote
Sonnenschein Posted October 2, 2012 Report Posted October 2, 2012 But AP doesn't make FXparts, and his plastic has a blue-ish tint. Quote
draggonhammer[TK] Posted October 4, 2012 Author Report Posted October 4, 2012 Got in touch with the gentleman from ATA and he'll do a replacement set for $50.00. And they look better than the ones I had, so maybe this is a good thing! I go back to work Monday, so I will be ordering them soon I hope! Thanks everyone for the advice and help (and sympathy! ha ha). Quote
