You mentioned early on that you wished it could have been done with PVC instead of metal, is that an option for this kit? It would definately be easier... Can't wait to see the finished product. The only better thing I think about PVC is that it's easier to cut and all that, but the aluminium has the weight and metal feel to it, which I think outweighs the slightly more difficult cutting. With the right tools it'd be easy, but I was using a dremel for most of it. But yeah, PVC is totally an option, just depends on what you have available/want to use. It'll be finished soon hopefully.
