Hey all, Does the ranking on the ear matter at all in regards to costume requirements? I know for hero you need 3 bumps on the plastic and stunt you need 4, but as for painted black lines on the bumps, is there a requirement?

Only if you are going for strict screen accuracy to replicate a particular helmet that is seen on screen. For 501st requirements it doesn't matter, but for FISD optional requirements if you decide to go that route, you can see them at:

The ANH Stunt and Hero CRL's state:

 

The “ear” bars have three or four bumps and should be gray or painted gray, with a black outline. Painting the bumps with rank stripes (highlighted) in black is optional.

 

If you going for Centurion:

 

Ear bars shall have only one or two bumps painted in black (rank stripes).

 

 

For EI, the only thing about the ear bumps is how many you should have ( the actual molded part of the ear, not the rank stripes):

 

ANH Stunt EI:

 

Ear bars should have four bumps only, not three.

 

ANH Hero EI:

 

Ear bars should have three bumps only, not four.
