snoberg
I am about to get the last part of my kit together (legs) and I saw some awesome rare earth magnet discs people have been using for the finishing strips. Where might I purchase these locally? I can always amazon them, but if I can get them here in town that would be ideal. I have lowes, home depot, menards, ace hardware and the whole gamut of regular stores around here at my disposal. (Minnesota)
tkrestonva[TK]
Unfortunately the type of rare-earth magnets folks have used (myself included) are very specialized items and generally unavailable at your local hardware, hobby, or craft store. The magnets they do sell locally are not nearly strong enough. Here's where I got mine:----- They're relatively inexpensive, ship ultra-fast (chances are if you order today your product will ship tomorrow - and you can choose expedited shipping), and very effective. I highly recommend them. Edited December 5, 2020 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2020

snoberg
Browsing around there are a ton of options, what size works best for our applications? I am guessing we don't need anything terribly big. And 10 should do the trick eh? ----- Will these do the trick? tkrestonva[TK]
Those should do nicely. Also, unless you plan on assembling only one piece a day, you're going to need a lot more than 10. Personally, I'd go for the 50-pack.
trooper18938
Mail order is the best way to go - Walmart has some 4 packs in their craft section, but they are expensive, like more than $1.00usd per magnet
Darth Voorhees[501st]
----- is cheaper than KJmagnetics! they are the same quality and alot cheaper! i use these for my Vader helmets...they work well as clamps too! ----- Edited December 5, 2020 by gmrhodes13 link not working, removed gmrhodes13 2020

snoberg
Okay so I ordered 10 of these things, and HOLY CRAP. I am going to injure myself using these, haha. I seriously fear them and what they are capable of doing to my fingers and random metal objects on my bench.
