  1. Yesterday I spent the evening with my better half. We both got Chinese take out and watched reruns of the Osbourns.

Today I moved back into college from my week long break and brought all my armor with me to make my debut on Halloween. Then for a few hours putting up a new show in the Art Gallery I work at.

    Nothing too eventful!

  2. Alright, I've come to the conclusion that my neck seal is some where in the attic of my Mother's house. I called over there about going and getting it and she said she would rather give me the money to buy a new one than have me clambering around up there  So I'm hoping to get on Oiftanker's wait list. It will probably be a few weeks before I post in here again, until I get the neck seal.

I also ordered some t-tracks from Smitty, but I am betting those will get here sooner than later ;)

  3. Point taken on the T-Tracks! I'll go ahead and hit up Smitty for some. White Zombie was kind enough to offer me a spare he has but since I need two I will go straight to the source.

And I do indeed have a neck seal, I just don't know where it is. I got it a few years back for a Daft Punk robot costume I made and now its in a storage tote some where. I will try to dig it up before I have to go back to college tomorrow.

Back at school I have a friend with a green screen and a camera that costs about twice as much as my whole costume, so I will get a chance to take some nicer pictures too!

So other than the neck seal and the t-tracks I am good?

  4. Like I said in my first posts I realize I mixed up the rivets, for some reason as I was attaching the holster I had it in my head that Hero was 2 and Stunt was 4. I'm glad to hear its not required since there's really no going back for me now (other than buying a new belt, which isn't in my budget).

I'll have to go back and look at the CRL on the blaster and take a look, thanks zombie!

As per some suggestions from Paul I made some changes since these pictures were taken (I don't have new ones because there's not a lot of people around to take pictures unfortunatly). I adjusted the shoulder bell straps so they sit closer to my chest, adjusted my thigh strap system so they are level now, attached the back and chest plate together with elastic, and made the kidney and "butt" plate sit lower to compensate for my over trimming of the back of my thighs.

I also realize I have too many rivets holding on my holster :\ Rookie mistake.

    Thanks for looking!

  7. Again a thread I started with no closure!

I opted out of not getting a sheet from Rob because I didn't want to wait to get it. My window of opportunity to build my armor was small and Rob couldn't get some to me in time.

I ended up measuring, cutting, lightly sanding all the pieces and painting them. For now it looks good but my gut tells me after a few troops chips are going to start appearing. I can always replace them in the future though, and take the time to get a sheet from RT.

  8. Thanks guys! Geez I started a lot of question threads without replying what I actually ended up doing. I decided to trim about a quarter of an inch off of the inner elbow "swoops" on the forearms, so I could get a pinch more bendability without compromising the length of the pieces. Now I can put my bucket on and off without gratuitous amounts of pain ;)

  9. I'd really recommend against visible rivets, and disagree with Terrell. I don't think we spell out that they can't be there, but they do detract from the visual appeal and typically glue holds just fine. Remember, they're not supposed to be stressed after all, just stay shut.

Luckily it didn't need to come to riveting the shims in place. Everyone was right and the E6000 is holding up fine enough on its own. So, crisis averted :D

A guy just posted pictures of his completed RT-Mod suit, take a look on the forums.

    I think he's talking about me? :D

    ----------

I said it before and I will say it again, RT-Mod is the best accurate armor for those of us who do not have "movie accurate" body types ;) . Rob is a great fellow to deal with, and his armor is worth the wait. I'm only 5'8", a few inches short of RT-Mod's ideal height range, plus a little heavier too, but I was able to trim it (and shim it) to fit me like a glove. I don't own one of his helmets, but thats simply because I hurried up and bought my MR CE without doing some proper research first.

But like I said in my thread, if you want some extra ABS to shim your armor, or make strips to assemble your armor accurately, you've got to ask for it!

  11. Funny you bring this up, I was just wondering the same thing. I'm planning on using mesh for lenses on Halloween Night when I go trick or treating with my little cousins. More so for visibility than an anti-fog measure. If I ever went to a con in armor I'd probably use them, too.

I bet you could get away with mesh lenses at really informal troops, or like a parade where there is distance between you and the people. But something high profile I bet it would be frowned upon, like a Lucasfilm event

Another Con... Flash photograph, your eyes would probably show!

  12. Thanks Shawn! I really like my RT-Mod suit. My only complaint is the way is was trimmed. RT trimmed the suit to be assembled the "standard" way of just overlapping the halves of the armor, but since I wanted to assemble my armor the "accurate" way of laying a strip over the two halves of the leg and arm pieces I had some trouble here and there. Does that make sense? Also Rob included no extra ABS so I had to buy a sheet on my own to make my strips and shims (which didn't match so I had to paint them). If/when I order a second kit I would ask him not to trim the suit that way and include some extra ABS.

On the whole though I am really happy with it. Its more accurate than FX, and is more flattering on us "big guys", especially the chest plate. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to have accurate armor but doesn't have an accurate body type. Its worth the wait and the price!

Also good call on the TE2, I bought my MRCE on impulse and regretted it once I set foot in this forum. The newest version of the RT-Mod helmet is worth looking at though, IMO, especially if you have a big head!

  13. Hey all, I finally got around to finishing up my armor. I got into the 501st today, so now I am setting my sights to the EIB. I realized I'm a little large for a stormtrooper, so that's a "mod" I am working on right now :D So, what do you guys think? See anything that could use some work?

The strap system I have for the thighs is something I need to adjust, but its as it is right now. I also realize my chest piece could probably do with some more fanning out with a heat gun, but I want to see what religiously hitting the gym for a month with calorie counting does for me before I bend it out more. Wish me luck!
