  1. Feel free to keep posting here Bill - a trooper is a trooper, black or white. One TX is cool - it really takes 2-3 together to really look a treat, just like TK's.

It's an easy 501st pass, though I'd adjust the shoulder bells a little closer to the shoulder straps. Feel free to post more pix :)

Thanks for the input. I agree on the bells. I have some ATA bells that I'm going to try also, just got to get around to glossing them up. (Black Paint) I hope to get accepted into the 501st with the TX, I have a TK still in the box and I'll start on him soon (winter project).

My wife wants the garage back............

  2. I hear ya'. The acronyms get a little overwhelming sometimes. We're worse than teenage girls sending text messages :)

TE stands for "Trooper Expert". -- He was basically the guy who started the whole "screen-accurate" phenomenon in the hobby.

He was the first person to get his hands on an Return of the Jedi set of armor and a couple helmets from A New Hope.

He has since sold those moulds, and is now only producing ROTJ armor and helmets.

TE2 stands for "Trooper Expert 2", and is the moniker being used by the maker who purchased the original TE's set of moulds.

He currently produces armor in HIPS, but usually does so in limited runs.

The advantages of ABS are durability and strength. It's a bit more rugged, and more tear & crack resistant than HIPS. The disadvantages are that it typically doesn't yield as much detail and sharpness as HIPS. It's a little bit more difficult to cut and bend during assembly as well. ABS comes with a high-gloss finish, and doesn't require painting.

HIPS, although somewhat less resilient than ABS, lends itself to very sharp detail. It's also an easier material to vac-form, which is why you see more armor being made from it. During assembly, it's very easy to trim, and shape... slightly more so than ABS.

It is, however, a bit less durable and may require reinforcing, or periodic maintenance, if you troop a lot.

Lastly, HIPS typically comes in a matte finish and requires sanding, priming and painting to achieve a high-gloss finish.

    Great explanation :duim: .

That TX is a complete badass. And just in time for Halloween! :duim:

Too bad the Spec Ops detachment doesn't have an elite program, if so you'd be gold. Let me be the first to say in advance - welcome to the 501st Legion. :salute:

Thanks, I have been posting over on the Spec Ops just not much going on over there. I am looking forward to going for my TX number with the 501st. Then I plan on hooking up with the 70th.

TK is in the box waiting. I do plan on taking my time on him.

  5. Finally got the finishing touches completed today. I still have a little tweaking on the fit, but all in all not bad. Here is a picture of my first fitting. I know it's a TX but I wouldn't have been able to complete it if it wasn't for all the help I got here on the FISD.

Thanks to everyone that helped this newbie out. I think I'll take a little break then I'll start on the TK.

Do you think I can get in the 501st with this TX?

I'll try to get some better pictures soon.

  6. Recasters and the guys that make crummy armor will always have a group of buyers simply because of the fact that the suppliers we all know about TE, TE2, AP are hidden. If you don’t have the secret handshake and the prerequisite amount of posts next to your name then getting any armor from them is impossible. If a noob came on this site and wanted to purchases some armor and begin down the glorious road that is Star Wars costuming he or she would be virtually unable to do so. That is why the recasters on the dreaded Ebay will have a market until we let loose a bit.

Having been ther done that ....you nailed it for me.

I must admit I've made the mistake of the bay. I didn't know where else to ge to find armor. I've spent my money on what I've come to find to be recast, until I found this site I was ignorant to the facts, and gullible. If I had known I would have rather spent my money on first run casting and not the reduced xerox copy. I can only blame myself and learn from my mistakes. I have friends that value my opinions as well as I'm sure others here. With the help of the members here on the FISD I have found valued armor and can give educated advice to other would be consumers.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, at sometime weren't we all new at something and made mistakes. Then a friend came along and you asked for a opinion or advice. That advice might have saved you from making another mistake.

That is what friends are for, and that is what the FISD can do.

Thanks to everyone here that has taken the time ( with dicussions like this )to help this newbie learn a little more. :duim:
