Freezer for sure. The gist of it is that the “water” based molecules expand when frozen and cause lots of tiny micro fractures. Follow up using your razor knife and a new blade.

I’ll be trying this tonight. I was able to get some off with blade but it been rough. This stuff is like concrete.

It is difficult to remove super glue from armor. That's why I prefer to use a rubber-based glue like E6000.

Acetone is often used to remove super glue, but this WILL melt plastic. Do *NOT* use on armor. Hot water is a possible method. Be careful, though. You don't want to warp the plastic. I have previously used isopropyl alcohol with some luck. It is a solvent, and doesn't (shouldn't) melt the plastic. Try it on a safe spot first just to make sure. You'll also have to pry and scrape and work it. Just take your time.

Oh, and as for extra cover strips, you could get this from many suppliers. I'm sure WTF have them if you ask, but it's just flat white ABS, not specific to the maker. I got mine from Trooperbay, but any smooth white ABS sheet with the correct thickness will suffice. Check your local hobby shop, hardware store, Amazon/Ebay.

Thanks I’ll try the alcohol method. I just read some were that putting the parts in freezer may help also by making the glue brittle. Anyone try the freezer method?

  3. Hi guys I picked a WTF armor kit in great shape never worn only issue is a few spots wet out together using super glue and are to big for me as is. The armor was never finished but the parts that were started have this super glue. Is there a way to remove this? On a side note does anyone know if Walts trooper factory has cover strip material for sale? I want to replace just about every piece that was used or cut as it’s not as clean as I would like. Thanks

Make sure you have a look through the gallery section, some areas won't need return edges.

You may find this info useful:

    1. Replace the plastic belt with a fabric one.
    2. Affix the holster via rivets vs. using the loops.
    3. Cut the cod off the back
    4. Remove the silver tape from the TD and mount it using banker clips (or similar)
    5. Replace the ab plate buttons

So, about $50 or so and a few hours of your time.

Make sure you also check the CRL as it has just undergone some updates ;) can find them here http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:FISD_CRL

Good luck with the build, looking forward to the progress.

Only thing I’m not understanding is “cut the cod off the back? Can you explain it to my small brain self. Lol

  5. Decided to try my hand at making returns. Scary words for a noob I know but I’m persistent. After taking to David Conklin over at Dave’s darkside depot. I decided it could be done. David has been a wealth of information thus far and extremely generous with his help. Any how what I did to create the returns is after talking to David and reading a few other tk builders post was make a jig and use a heat gun. I tried the iron method and could not get that to work at all. Here’s the results this farthus far

  6. So I bought my first armor and unfortunately it was an fx armor which after buying I found out is  not seen in such a nice light. I guess I did not do enough research. After debating back and forth I decided being the persistent person I am I was going to go town and try my best to make this armor worthy. It’s my first time and already purchased the armor and have nothing to loose. I know the helmet will have to be replaced working on that now. Will most likely be purchasing a helmet soon. Anyhow I’ll keep post updated on my progress.

You'll find most of the armor makers in the Getting Started section and many will sell a helmet separately, what you do want to make sure is the color of another make of helmet will match your armor, some of the whites differ quite a lot. You could have a look through a few build threads, normally the armor type is in the heading.

Thanks I’ll take a look and see what I can find

  8. thank you everyone I feel very welcomed here. I found out last night from a local tk that basically what I have is an FX armor kit. A little disappointed since after telling me what I had he told me it was not a great kit. I know the helmet is a no go the armor I now have no clue. I did my research but I guess I did not research enough lol. Anyone else have any insight on this armor set?

  9. Thanks guys much appreciated. Gmr that was the first page I looked at about a month ago lol. Purchased all parts on that list. I’m going with the snap method for my first build. Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I will be looking for a helmet eventually as this armor came with a helmet but since was stored for a while it got a bit deformed somehow and was gonna be a pain to try and fix it so it’s still sitting in the box.

  10. Hello everyone i am brand spanking new to the wonderful world of stormtrooper armor building and eventually fingers crossed trooping. Life long fan of Star Wars and basically all 70’s/80’s pop culture. Long time toy collector and decided with a push from the wife to take the plunge. Purchased my first set of armor not the most expensive but want to take as a learning experience for when I get a better set of armor. Anyhow thanks for having me and any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
