  1. LOLL!!!!!

Oh man .. I wish I had such an uncle when I was younger! Jim, you're awesome!!! I have 2 nieces (9 & 6) and my only nephew is almost 3 now .. I can't wait for him to grow old!!!

My nieces have a blast coming at my place and looking at all my SW crap lying around :)

Very good job on the letter and all .. you're truly a terrific guy!!!

  2. I thought I'd update ... I'm pretty much finished on my Neyo bucket. Only the weathering is left for now.

Here's a link to my update thread .. let me know if you can't see the pics, I'll upload them here too (I wasn't sure as this is a clone bucket) ...

  3. Right on .. remove little, try fit, mark, remove some more, try fit, mark, remove x 20.

    Admire your perfect fit after.

In my pic, I actually had just rebuilt my helmet for the pics, so it doesn't look good (in my own taste anyway) and it normally is flawless.

Oh and no bondo, glue, silicon or anything needed there!!!

  4. Ok, bad news first, it does look pretty bad!!!

Now, good news, it seems like you removed the bare minimum from the ears, which is perfect, your problem is that you just did that, remove the bare minimum. From this point on, what you need to do is check where the ears are hitting your helmet and write directly on the ear where to remove some more .. so carefully, you'll do just that and slowly but sure, the ears will get closer and closer to the dome.

Use the search button and check any ear trimming threads here. We've already done extensive threads on this subject. I personally did a photo shoot of my bucket just so you guys could have ear reference pics! Check my album here for any AP reference shots:

  5. I was referring to the Gallery on here. I thought there was a limit on how much you can upload. But I'm not totally sure.

Well, I've uploaded a ton of pictures in the Gallery and never saw anything about size restriction! So unless I'm completely mistaken, I don't think there's a restriction there ...

  6. Steve, everything you're saying about the helmet is normal.

First, the MR is ONLY a display piece. I can't see anyone trooping in this .. ever. It's tight, padded, and too costly to bonk on things and drop (I'd probably have a heart attack just getting it touched by everyone etc ...) .. it's heavy and there's no space to fit anything in it unless you strip it but seriously, who would?

Now, the wonkiness is totally normal, that's the essence of the ANH helmet. I'm glad you found your plaque, I've never heard of any mistakes for the TK lid on MR's part.

How is your frown painted? Is it wavy and from shaking hands or it's more straight? THAT is the main problem on this helmet. Mr tried to copy the frown paint job from the Hero the had and they kinda didn't get it right. Anyway, that's what most people complain about in general ...

If you wanna get more information on this bucket a---nd read people's opinions/complaints/flame/love about the helmet, you can go read the Rebelscum forums BUT BEWARE, this place is pretty addictive ... urgg ...use of the production shortage .. but I've decided to build my own more accurate representation of the Hero helmet from a TE2/AP (not sure yet).

    Cheers,

    BT

  7. Thanks guys!!

Nope it is completely ruined ..pack it up and mail it to me now so it can be my new fancy paperweight...

Alright Steve, just let me know your address, I really thought I could salvage it!!! :)

At least the run is very minor. If it were me, I'd let it cure and wet sand then apply another coat or two. Were you applying the coats while tacky, or one at a time after the previous one cured?

That's exactly what I plan to do now .. but what a pain in the a very impolite person when it's pushing back the work on it for another week!! Arrgg

Well, the instructions were saying wait 30 seconds between paint coats .. what da ... I didn't wanna take any chance so I waited around a day between each. So that would be applied while dried but not cured.

That run is not that bad. I would take a step back from that helmet for a week and let it cure. If the run still bothers you after its had a chance to cure, just wet sand it with 800 or 1000 grit wet or dry sand paper. After its lightly sanded hit sanded area with some novus plastic polish. If it brings out the paint then I would try hitting the whole helmet with novus. You can also try a nice car wax.

I really dont like Krylon Fusion at all for high gloss painting. Its a really easy paint to use, but it never really shows a nice ABS like gloss. Its not a bad paint for Sandtroopers or roughed up clones though.

I have discovered that on most paints if you lay a coat down and let it sit for 5 minutes and then re-coat, wait 5, re-coat wait 5, it loooks pretty darn good. Of course you will want to make sure that yoou have prepped the surface well and made sure its smooth, dust free and oil free. Paint in an area that is not windy, cold. Never paint at night with the porch light on..... Bugs love fresh white illuminated paint...I dunno why.

Always follow the cans directions, and dont buy cheap paint unless you want a cheap finish.

Thats about all I can think of. I look forward to seeing your helmet finished! :)

I've read and re-read your paint tutorial multiple time to make sure I was doing everything right (first paint job on a helmet, second only after my 2 blasters .. urgg that would make it 3) .. anyway, I knew Krylon gloss wouldn't give me a super gloss finish .. and after seeing more and more Neyo helmet done, I thought that would be good since I want to weather it with acrylic paint afterward.

Would you consider the Krylon cheap? Or are you saying that for any cheap-er paint than Krylon?

I also bought some Rustloleum white gloss .. from you guys pictures, that looks like the paint I would have used for the ultimate shinny look :)

  8. Well, I did it ..

After 3 perfect coat of paint, I messed up and my 4th layer of Krylon has a paint run right on the front of the dome. It's barely noticable but it will bug the heck outta me if I leave it there...

I was already planing on 5 coats of paint and then a wet sanding to give it a shine .. would that remove the paint by itself if I wait long enough before sanding? Or should I sand now, then do another coat or 2 after?

  9. Steven,

I've already posted about this here:

    http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=1849

For me, I have the same behavior .. altuhou, it seems to be more picky.

Right now, searching for "Armor" WILL get me over 1000 results, while searching for "TE" or "AP" won't return anything.

"Unfortunately your search didn't return any results.

Try broadening the search parameters by searching by different keywords or altering the format of your search.

Remember to use the wildcard '*' to increase the number of matches. Apple* will match 'apple' and 'apples'."

  10. Smitty,

I understand you. I've put sooo much time in my E11! I can't understand how it's feasible to sell them for under 100$, heck, even under 500$ in my case. Mine's not the best I've seen, but so much love got put in it that it's pretty much unsellable :)

250$ is expensive, but considering the time put in those hand built things, it is not expensive at all.

    Good luck with the sale!
