  1. So with the strapping that goes under the groin, I noticed some people have two silver buttons/rivers, are they required?
  2. Thank for the precaution! We might end up getting some E6000
  3. Yeah I was thinking of putting padding in it, as I am also thin
  4. Hello all! Wow thanks for the responses! Just about to do some fitting for the torso. As for the answers about the E6000, sadly our local Spotlight didn't have any small tubes of E6000. I know that is the go-to glue for trooping, but the glue we have is working a treat! If we do need to get some, I'm sure I can find it cheap on ebay! Hello, so I'm to understand that the female velcro can just stick right onto the tops of the back piece and the male just go underneath the shoulder strap? thank you! Thank you, me and Dad will definatly use this!
  5. Hey! You where the guy that told me to make a build thread! I see you are very decorated. Me and Dad are pretty new to this sort of thing (stormtrooper armour making that is), but we do have plenty of modelling/tool experience which is coming in handy. Tomorrow we plan on sizing the torso to my body, as we felt it would be best to size the torso area before going ahead and making the legs, just so they look nice and well fit. I was thinking to myself to reinforce the entire inner section of the shin piece as it will be having the most strain on it, glad to know most people do it! We don't have E6000 in Australia, so we tested 5 different superglues and used the one that was the best. One of the glues, Selly's QuickFIX is working like a charm, so much so when we tried to rip it apart from the 2 test bits, it bent the plastic. Before building I was concerned about getting a decent glue. The only downside is that it comes in 3g tubes, but the first bottle has lasted both forearm pieces and bicep pieces! I'm mainly going for the basic membership, but we've been following Mayo's popular build here: Even though he did go for the Centurion which I think you guys call it, it has been handy for the most part. Since we didn't want to go into the insane tedious details! Just a few questions for you guys: What is the best way to attach the shoulder straps to the back piece? Would I need to button or velcro it back? -and- Is it possible to trim the edges of the kidney/ab plate so they meet nicely on the sides? We really appreciate all the help so far and going forward! Thank you!
  6. Hello from Australia! Me and my father are building our first armour together (to fit on me) ! I've been asking around on the community for help, which lead to someone suggest we make build thread like everyone else. My dad is very excited to help me build this armour, we are spending more time togethr on it which has been good. Me and my dad used to build heaps of plane/tank models together when I was younger, so it feels just like that again. Everyone has been super helpful and nice on here it's great. (Now I'm starting to think he wants his own armour which I'm thinking he should!) So we've finished (so far) the two forearms and the two biceps before I made this thread, the right arm pieces can be seen below. We are going to start the torso portion tomorrow to fit to my body which will be fun, then eventually moving onto the legs. Help and advice will be much appriciated!
  7. Hello, I've begun building my armour with my father and we're both having a blast making it. Spending more time together has been really nice. One issue though. My nightly ritual after armour building has been looking at all the topics on the forums, and getting tips and tricks from everyone. I happened to see the man I bought the armour off of Matt Gauthier, is on the DO NOT BUY list. I saw that a lot of people where displeased with his actions and he has been banned from any 501st fourms/media. All the armour arrived, made from ABS plastic. I am aware that they are probably recast, yet they seem to be fine from my eyes. Should I be worried? Thanks! I can post pictues of our completed pieces for refrence if you want.
  8. Thanks Greg, I'll see how it goes tomorrow, it should turn our alright once I get the belt around it, I might put some foam on the back pieces to give it some bulk too just to be safe
  9. Hello Troy! Yes there is about the amount of gap, perhaps putting padding on the inside of the kidney plate would help? I'm new to all of this, thank you
  10. Hello all, I've taken some more photos for you. It's pretty late right now where I am so I didn't have time to tape up the armour. I'm average height so that isn't the problem, it's more my wideness. As you can see I'm a bit of a stick. These photos are of me pressing each piece tightly against my body (mind the cat) and as center as I can. Hope you guys can help, everyone is so nice here it's crazy. From the first pic you can see the kidney plate goes out the sides, whereas the belly piece seems to fit more snug. other photos from other angles too. Sorry for the photo quality!
  11. Yes I have test fitted, and the kidney piece overlaps the abdomen pieces on the sides.
  12. Hello, I am trying to fit the kidney piece and the belly armour together, there is just one issue, the kidney seems to be too big! I am skinny myself so one side juts out, pictured here when one side is lined up: How do I fix this so it lines up on the other side and still has the notches at the bottom? and So it fits correctly? Thank you
  13. Is using a heat gun carefully a viable way to fit armor parts? thanks
  14. Oh one more thing, where is the best place to put the strap connecting the bicep and the forearm? thanks!
  15. those pictures really help, everyone is so helpful here! Thank you
  16. awesome! thank you very much, I new to all of this, gonna do some major work on it tomorrow!
  17. Hello, I taped it with some pics on my arm, it doesn't look too bad, it has around 1 cm overlap. Doesn't have any strapping to keep it sliding down my arm though.
  18. Hello, I am a new member of the FISD fourms. I just got my firest ANH Stunt armour kit. I have been doing lots of research before I begin building, and my Local Garrison pointed me here for a wealth of knowledge. I am relatively on the skinny side, so the armour needs to be cut down a bit. Pictured below is one of the Forearms for my TK. I was wondering if I could cut dow the sides of each pieces to fit more on to my arm, but on one of the sides it has a raised bit near the edge which I am pointing to. Would I be able to cut this off, or would it need to remain? In other words what would be the optimal way to make them fit without looking silly, thank you.
