  1. I applied E6000 around the whole Strim and bucket because my nose always pulled the trim off when taking the helmet off. It was so annoying.

Quick suggestion- take a photo now of the S-trim on your helmet prior to getting it in place/glued so you have the photo to submit later for higher levels.

Since you mentioned getting to higher levels, maybe you can answer this - should I loosen the ear cover, and glue the tubing underneath?5288158069ed3b648ef88603cba02ca9.jpg

  2. Yeah, I already had it on without glue, but it came off while transporting it. I'll have to glue it, but I was hoping Loctite was ok to use, since it will apply much cleaner through the small needle nose tube applicator.

If you cut the S trim a little longer than needed the pressure of the extra trim normally helps to keep the trim in place as it forces the trim sideways. If you do find you catch it while putting the helmet on and it comes of you can use some E6000 in places.

  3. Poo.  I couldn't troop in my first event today because the tubing came off my helmet.  What's the best glue for that?  (The tube lining around the base of the bucket).  I am hoping it's something like a super glue/Loctite thing because the needle nose applicator would greatly help, rather than the globs of E6000... I guess the questions never stop, even though I'm officially in!

I use FogTech Anti-Fog solution on my TK lenses and have never seen fogging show up!  I even used it in my plague doctor mask at DragonCon this year and my lenses stayed clear for the entire 5 hours in it (no fans in there).  The stuff works and works well.  :duim:

Thanks, Cricket!  Hey, I think you are the one who did a thread about using magnets to enclose the shins - is that correct?  If so, can you link me to it?  One of my friend's uses that method, and loves it.  I'm hating the bra hook thing.

  5. Hello, fellow proud soldiers of the Empire.  My name is Ron Zill, and I was just now approved as TK-82611.   It's been an incredibly long journey to make it here, and I now look forward to representing the 501st, and my local Michigan Great Lakes Garrison & Base with pride.  I want to thank everyone on here, as well as on the GLG, who put up with all of my questions during my build.  Long live the Empire!  https://imgur.com/a/eBt964s

What’s the material on top? Looks like a cotton-like material on top of rubber?

I used Loctite to glue my silicone plates to my rubber gloves. E6000, gorilla glue, superglue- none of that stuff works. Loctite will get the silicone to stick to the rubber.

It's nylon, and no, it is not on top of the glove.  Maybe Loctite would work?  I can try it.  Thanks.

Hi there!  I'm a life long Star Wars fan and have always wanted to have stormtrooper armor.  Now's the time.  I made an abortive first try by buying a kit from Jedi-robe, which I now know if not recommended.  The helmet doesn't fit at all, so I'm trying to return it.  Then I found this place, and my local Garrison, and their Academy.  I'm waiting for replies from them, but am researching more on here in the mean time.  One thing I did not expect was the number of different trooper armor out there.  Is there a thread that lists the different versions/styles?  I'm looking, but haven't found it yet.  And is there recommended full kit producers out there?  I found the list of who to avoid (like Jedi-robe), but haven't found a good list yet.

    Thanks!

    Paul

Hi Paul, my name is Ron.  I am selling a complete kit from Anovos.  I bought it from a guy here in Michigan who never began his build - it is completely untrimmed whatsoever.  Anovos is an approved seller of 501st armor, and they are currently out of stock on the TK kit.  Check out their web site, and do your research here.  But, I think you will find this is not an inexpensive hobby.  Also, Anovos takes quite a long time to build and mail your kit, if that's who you go with.  I have the same kit that you could have almost immediately.  Anyway, check things out.  I have people who will vouch for me and my character.  Hope to hear from you, and good luck!  :)

Digging through current topics is sometimes overwhelming, so I figured I'd start my own.

First off I would like to say that joining the 501st has been a long time dream of mine, though I've always found myself confused as starting out. I've seen ANOVOS and the armor they make, though they are fairly expensive for one as broke as myself. I intend on buying one eventually, but I was just wondering if there are other companies, or alternative methods I can employ, so as to get my own. For right now, I would just like to start off with some good old classic stormtrooper armor. Thanks for any and all answers!

I will be selling an Anovos kit, completely untrimmed, 100% complete.  It is an XL size, and with all of the soft goods (undersuit, belt, strapping material, etc.), Anovos is $1100.  I'll be selling for less than that, plus it would be shipped out immediately after payment.  Anovos takes over six months to get it to you.  If you are interested, let me know before I post it.  :)

You could try making a stencil for the ab buttons, you'd still have to paint carefully as you could get some bleeding.

I found it easier to paint on the circles as best you can with a small brush, then tidy up with a couple of toothpicks, worked a charm!

Nice tip about the toothpick!  Here is my first round of painting...  d9XTvrE.jpeg

I used these on my last build, and they worked out great!  The nice thing is that they are held on with Velcro so can be easily removed for cleaning:

    -----------

As for keeping it on your head, I have found that once you put the pads in they will pretty much keep it in place, even when you tilt your head down.

NOTE:  On my first bucket, I put pads on the top of the inside, but found that it rode really high and I was constantly tilting it forward just to be able to see.  After removing it I had no problems, and the side pads keep it in place just fine.

Trying to ask more questions without clogging up the thread board.  I am cutting my own holster straps for the TK stunt.  I saw on another post, but wasn't sure which Trooper it was for, that the width is about 20mm.  Is this about right?

I lined the entire inside of my helmet with the soft side of Velcro. I did this because it allows me to move my electronics and padding daily throughout the helmet, anytime I want. It works very well. I know others use plastidip, and I know of some using neoprene strips. I also use the tactical pads as others mentioned above. I have pics of my helmet on my build thread if you’re curious.

Thanks  :)  I just ordered tactical pads.  Seems the best option both for secure fitting and cleaning.  I did post this a while ago, but might as well ask you - what speaker system do you have, and do you like it?  I may not need a fan here in Michigan until the spring.

On padding some use the liners, others use foam stars and others like me use the tactical pads. Like these here.----------

Tactical pads?  Is that anything like the pads sold at Michaels?  They are firm, but flexible - not as porous as foam.
