Good job buddy... slow and steady wins the race lol
I'll keep an eye out on this build. You have a lot of support on this forum.
Thanks, David!
I always enjoy watching a build come together
As do I!
Glad we could do lunch yesterday for some motivational talk and working out some fit and trim details.
Wait, I think I can see the weekend from here. Do I hear progress?
You were a HUGE help yesterday! I was stumped on a few things, but thanks to you and showing me photos, I was able to see exactly what it was that I was aiming for! I tried the left thigh just in case again this morning and the adjustments that I made are amazing and I can actually "move"... going to be trimming the back of the knees out! So far, my 3 stage process is almost complete
Stage 1: Cut out and fit the parts (Finishing Helmet last)
Stage 2: Glue and snaps (followed with/by photos for approval)
-2A - Entry Level Approval
-2B - EIB Approval
-2C - Centurion Approval
Stage 3: Troop!

Thank you very much, Tony!
I've been working some more on this and will be uploading the photos soon... hopefully within the next few days!

What I have so far
One below I still have a few edges to trim up, but I wanted to wait for the very end!
Below:
My box so far of the items that I've got to the point of where they SHOULD be fine for when I get ready to snap together:
Below:
Just the few things I've got left to do... the ones that are sitting inside the tub NEED to be trimmed. Ones wrapped in tape are ones I am going to trim away the returns slowly and then start adding the cover strips and inside strips
Below:
No return on the forearms!!! Thanks for the tip, Jeff!
Also, this is the right size to fit around my forearm with some room so it's not too tight

Not to spoil your plans, but I only used my Dremel to open the eyes and space between the teeth. I didn't trust myself to not allow the speeding bit to get a way from me. ABS Paste can make repairs, but they can also be prevented!
Instead of the foam sanding block, get something with a solid backing to it. It will give you a much straighter line. Something like this in plastic or rubber would work:
Or, I made this from a 20" sanding belt and a 1x piece of lumber. I rounded the ends to match the radius of the sanding belt: I have several grits and this one is noted as 120 grit.
The Ab could use a little more to be sanded off to remove the flare. It should come across the face and then go down and not to flare again.
You're not spoiling my plans at all! I like to have input and suggestions!!!
I actually went out to Lowes and got myself a sanding wedge (forget what it's called), but it's similar to what you've recommended!!! Also, I've fixed the ab and will be uploading pics shortly!
Great seeing you at the AP as well, learned a lot and it made it easier for me to continue on with my build after coming to a "roadblock".
Looking good so far! I agree you have to trim a little more on the ab. The return edge needs to lose that bot and dead end at 90° from face edge of armor.Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much I've fixed it and will be uploading pics shortly!

So after yet another day (only a few hours of being able to work on my armor) I at least was able to clean up the abdominal piece:
And then start in on the left shin piece... and thank Darth Vader that Mark labeled the pieces with a "L" & a "R"!!!! So made a initial cut with the least intimidating part:
Of course after I finished the one part of the shin, I moved onto the next part:
After doing this I have a lot of rough lines, but I've decided to break out the dremel and get some more bits so I can get a faster sanding job and then finish up with my smooth sanding paper. But so far it's a start

WooooHoooo! Glad to see that you have started this thread when you BBB arrived! I am thrilled your wait was so short for it to arrive. After all, the LibCon was only 2 weeks ago!
Yes, the TBS squad will be more than helpful at the AP.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help with, besides lending the ab button paints!
Hey after seeing your armor up and close, I decided to go ahead and start mine! I'm also glad that it arrived earlier than expected!!!!! I thought it was longer than 2 weeks ago that I saw yours haha.
I look forward to the AP and I'll be sure to let you know if there's anything you can help with, but please let me know likewise!
Welcome, Looking forward to watching this thread
Thank you very much!

We have some really cool troops here. We did over 260 events last year in the Makaze Squad, including Legoland and several troops at Disney World.
Legoland... I have not been to yet! However, gotta admit that it's nice to be able to do things like these! I'm definitely gonna have to join y'all now!

Jeff is a great guy and a good friend of mine, and I'm not surprised to hear that he has been a big help! I suggest bringing all the tools you can with you, (Dremel, etc.) as well as strapping and such. Most APs will have them on hand, but when there are multiple people doing builds it's best to have your own.
Hopefully you are aiming for EIB and then Centurion level. It's really best to do it during your build rather than after and it makes your armor much more screen accurate. If I can be of any help, just let me know, and once you get approved you are invited to join us on a troop in Makaze Squad territory!
Thank you for the suggestions! As all I'm doing right now is just cutting/trimming/fitting everything to myself I shouldn't require much, but I'll keep that in mind!
That's my goal, Centurion! I felt the same way that it's easier to make it the highest level possibly now than it would be later. I also look forward to trooping with y'all in the MST! Thank you for the invite, I look forward to it

Congrats! Welcome aboard trooper. I look forward to following your build.
Thank you!

Woo Hoo! Another build, awesome
once I get home I'll be doing more!
First, congrats on BBB day! If you are interested, Eric from the Tampa Bay Squad is hosting an armor party/barbeque in Clearwater this Sunday. There will be quite a few people there who will be more glad to help you with any questions you may have. Ken (piettlives) will also be there. He is the Imperial Attache for the Tampa Bay Squad and is a wealth of knowledge that he will be happy to share with you.
Have you signed up at the FL. Garrison site yet? http://www.fl501st.com/boards/
If so, here is a link to more info: http://www.fl501st.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=34770
Thank you, Joseph! I have signed up with TBS (Same name as here) and WILL be making it to the AP this Sunday . Jeff (wingnut) has been helping me a lot and giving TONS of pointers so I have to take my hat (or helmet) off to him as well!
Looking forward to watching this thread. Congrats on your BBB day!
Thank you very much, I look forward to sharing more

*NOTICE* No images yet... I've tried uploading pics, but keeps telling me that imgur is not a allowed file extension?! Will be uploading soon...Fixed*EDIT* Adding a color indicator for what I've got completed and what I don't:
I have 3 initial stages that I'm aiming for:
Stage 1: Cut out and fit the parts (Finishing Helmet last) - This part is finished!!!!
Stage 2: Glue and snaps (followed with/by photos for approval)
-2A - Entry Level Approval - Basic Approval Achieved!!!! (I have all the "requirements for EIB and Centurion, but have not started the approval process yet)
-2B - EIB Approval - not started
-2C - Centurion Approval - not started
Stage 3: Troop!
So I ordered my kit last week from AP (Thank you Mark) and it arrived today! Even though the tracking STILL says it's out to be shipped... tomorrow lol. I was notified that there was a "big" box at my door and so when I got home there was a BIG box:
Was not expecting that when I walked through my front door lol. I took everything out and started making sure it's all there... even though I might have overlooked one thing in my excitement... (sorry Mark).... it is
I looked at what I had and was a little nervous at what I would start on. I debated on the shins, helmet, forearms and so on until I settled on the abdominal/cod plate:
That was my practice cut... found out that I have to keep a constant pressure to make sure my scoring marks don't slip! I MIGHT have shed a little blood on this one... but makes it all that more special to me
So I made the last two (or several dozen final cuts) and came out with a base line for this:
Still have a few lines to clean up, but I always like giving myself some extra room on the sides so I don't make too many mistakes. It can always be sanded down

I use imgur (I've got my album there hidden so no one else can see them unless I post the direct link, and has the BB Code listed there for you) and FB for my "image hosting" needs. Although, the list that Preston provides is a great one!
However... I have to admit that I stopped using flickr. Only used it for a school project (I wasn't impressed) and had random strangers commenting on things?!
(tried photobucket and did not like it)

I'm currently using a GoPro Hero 5 Session with a GoPro Remo. I've got the Remo inside my helmet using some industrial velcro on a spot just underneath my helmet's frown. Its battery lasts at least 4 hours at a time. I can use voice commands on it to control my GoPro much easier than in the past. For the GoPro itself, I've discovered that if you press the button on the back once, then the top button (the recording button), that is the shortcut to turn the camera itself off. Anytime I need to take a photo or video, I hit the button on the back once and about 3 seconds later the connection has been made, leaving me free to take any photos or videos I need!
Ah ok, I don't have the remo for my hero 5, but I was looking into it. Of course I don't have the session, but instead the hero so the remo might not be as useful than just the individual pressing the button to just capture on the go? Either way, nice going!

Congratulations on getting your box! See you in uniform soon, (well, soon being relative, as soon as you get it all together!).
Thanks! I'm going to be posting a build thread soon! I know it'll be a little while before I can actually get it finished, but I'm looking forward to it!

Box day! Trust me, once you start trooping it's difficult to say no!
Its' funny because RIGHT after I said all this, my next door neighbor said that there was a HUGE box waiting at my doorsteps!!!!! Needless to say... mine has arrived lol!
I'm already wanting this day to be over so I can get home and start working in on it!

*snip*
I do have to ask, but do you have the remote for your gopro? That might make it easier to turn on/off and switch to different modes.
I like the 5 and it's easy one touch button on/capture mode.

These are great photos!!!! I'm looking forward to being able to post my adventures as well!!!! (just a few more days until my box arrives)

Hi and welcome aboard future Trooper! Have a read in the “Getting Started-Read this First” section, as there is some really good info in there for new members.
Then, have a read in “Costuming and Builds” section to discover other troopers who are building (or have built) the same armor as you! Really good tips, examples, pictures, previously answered questions, and successes here.
In addition to looking at all the various build threads, I highly recommend checking out the “Advanced Tactics” section where you can see examples of those who have taken their armor to the next levels of screen accuracy (EIB and Centurion). I’d recommend that you aim to build to one of the certification levels, as TK’s look their best at these levels. It's really not hard to acquire EIB or Centurion, and it’s best to do during your build rather that after.
If, and when, you’re looking for other bits –and-pieces, accessories, boots, blasters, electronics, etc., be sure to check out the “Imperial Commissary/PX” section for items for sale, project runs, and for other stuff that most of the troopers use.
Also, make contact with your local Garrison. They’ll help guide you through the process of becoming a member of the 501st, and may have local Armor Parties in the works where you can get hands-on build advice and guidance, not to mention meet members of your future Garrison.
So, start a build thread here on FISD; post lots of pictures and questions. We are all here to help you out and to make sure you look your best, and represent the 501st as best as possible.
All the best on your TK journey!
Thank you for the great information! I'll have to take a look at the other bits section for a blaster and other stuff.
Welcome to the FISD Bryce!
Phenomenal to have you with us on the FISD Bryce - welcome to the world of white armor!

Thanks for the welcoming!
Before jj63 suggests, Yes, I have been in contact with Bryce on getting the ball rolling in the right direction. I'm glad he showed up at the Library's Lib-Con while I was still trooping. He even helped me get out of my armor and got a chance to see what it is really like. He even has my snapping diagram saved on his phone for guidance! Nice!
He is on our local boards and our welcome committee let him know where we were trooping last weekend. I just love it when a system works!
Bryce, FISD is the best and only Detachment you need to spend time with. This, and TBS!
Welcome to the World of White!
Hey, Jeff! Thank you so much for showing me the wonders of what the World of White can offer! The Lib-con event was extremely helpful... on so many levels! I had a brief look into what a handler is like as well as actually seeing the armor/snap system up close! The welcome committee system worked great and I hope it continues to work like that! I have a list of dates that I can plan out a head of time and get my ride in order! It really is a blast and I look forward to more, especially when I'm all dressed in white
Hello and welcome aboard. That was some solid advice you got about this site. Do your research and figure out what works best for you. Follow build guides and suggested methods. This will help save you time, sanity and money. Good luck!
Thank you very much! I've been reading the forums and watching videos all evening last night trying to decide on what I should start in on first. I want to finish the helmet, but at the same time I want that to look the best!

Hello and welcome aboard
Hello and welcome to the FISD!
Hello and welcome to the FISD!
Thank you, Buttons, Zarlon & gmrhodes13!
Welcome to the FISD, make sure you ask any questions you have. Also stay away from eBay, it is a hive of scum and villainy.
Thank you as well! I've "looked" at eBay, but never really considered getting armor or a helmet from there (can't verify the source of manufacturer). I'll be sure to ask questions... I've got several, but will be attending a Armor Party coming up within the next few weeks locally where I'm at! Even then... I'll have plenty of questions!

Hello and Welcome to FISD.
Hello and thank you both!

Welcome to the FISD, Bryce! Hopefully you are looking for 501st approval and purchased your armor from one of the sellers in this area: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/topic/11538-the-various-types-of-armor-and-where-to-find-them/. If you haven't checked out this section, I highly recommend it: http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/forum/38-getting-started-read-this-first/ . Many of your questions can be answered there, and know that we are always here for any that you can't find the answers to. What part of Florida are you in?
Thank you for the great information! I live in the Tampa area, just moved here almost 2 years ago (will be two exactly Memorial Day) and heard about the 501st from my previous state, but there weren't many people near where I lived. So once I got here, I found out that there were a LOT more people especially near me currently!
Thank you for the link to the getting started thread and to the places that are acceptable sites/places to get armor from! That helps a lot! I've still got a lot of things to "fix" on my profile here, but I'll be doing so little by little .
Welcome along
Welcome to the FISD Bryce! Good Luck Future Trooper!
Hi Bryce and welcome to FISD! Definitely check out the getting started thread that Joseph provided. Make sure you read through the whole thread. There is a ton of info there. Ask us any questions you may have. Have fun and good luck!
Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes! I was told by the trooper I met yesterday that this is a great group to be part of and I believe him completely . I'll be sure to post new threads once I run into problems with any of the pieces I might run into!
Hanging out yesterday at my first event has gotten me pumped up to do more!
-
I've been on the FL Forums for a few months and have been putting together my own armor, but after a recent trip to a local convention and meeting a current trooper (and seeing the armor up close) I've decided to go ahead and buy my own set (the amount of $ I was spending was getting to be too much that I might as well go and get my own set). I'm new to this site because the trooper that I met said there's a lot of information located here that'll help me get on my way to becoming a trooper myself!
Just popped by to say "Hi"!

Btabc's Stormtrooper build
in ANH (Stunt and Hero)
Posted · Edited by Btabc
LOL I'm going to have to edit my list now and have "Initial Approval, EIB, and Centurion" added as sub-levels to #2!!!!
As for the shins I will be sure to hold off on that, but for the backs of the knees it's for the thighs, I do not have much movement at all with the thighs as they currently are. Now, with the shins, I do not see too many problems with those
