  1. I have a KB Tie Pilot it came in 4 weeks no issues.

I also have a Mimic kit I've been waiting for 9 months on.

KB recently moved shops and it was quite the process to get moved over. I'm sure they are still finishing orders but from my experience it was good. I wasn't expect a kit in a day and I used I had a black abs kit so that helped.

They have had issues with white abs. You might be able to get a black kit and just paint it. You probably will anyway with the seam on the yoke and back connector. Look through the build posts on here. There is one that is pinned from Ruthar or something like that sorry if I'm buthering that it's early and I'm not fully awake.

Best of luck, either of the two choices imo are better than Anovos

I have no options for anything you want tomorrow, that's not how kits work unless you find someone giving up on a project or something comes up where they cant get started on something

  2. Looks like this is gonna be on hold for awhile, haven't got anything shipped yet but looks closer. In the meantime I got my bucket and armor in for my First Order Tie Pilot. So getting some familiarity with the first order build, 100% different materials though. Already getting a headache from some of the parts and more than thankful mimics is coming together.

First order tie will be a nice 2nd costume to use for cons, and troops where I don't have a lot of help dressing. I wanted my shoretrooper because I thought I'd have more movement but the hip armor I have right now doesn't allow movement. I might sell that kit down the road, maybe 3 kits seems like a bit much right? (technically 4 with my fun green and gold TK) Gonna run out of places to store armor bins sooner or later.

  3. Just had accident at work with another working using a cutting blade, while not armor related. It has inspired me to remind everyone about safety when working on armor. I work in the trades and even I get a bit lack on safety. It should always be number one, hospital visits aren't fun. And while it might be a rite of passage to bleed to the armor gods, you could prevent it. I'm far from perfect here, I hate wearing safety gear, but I hate getting cut or things in my eyes worse. Anyway here's my rant on safety for today:

When working with sharp blades I usually wear Ansell Hyflex Cut resistant gloves. Usually they will be good for slashes and slips. I use these at work and home: https://www.grainger.com/product/ANSELL-Nitrile-Cut-Resistant-Gloves-3EE13?cm_sp=Product_Details-_-Customer_Also_Viewed-_-AZIDPRR_1714-9435-3&cm_vc=AZIDPRR_1714-9435-3&req=Customer_Also_Viewed

Once broken in you get good grip and flexibility

Do your research and find what works for you, there are some amazing products out there.

Also always wear eye protection, googles, safety glasses and in some cases a full shield

A dust mask, proper ventilation etc is helpful for sanding, painting, etc. Make sure if your using chemicals your have the right mask for the right job. Some materials fiberglass resin etc require more protection.

It sucks to have lost a worker due to a preventable accident. Take a few moments take a sip of your favorite beverage and think about the task you are performing and how you can perform it safer.

    Safety first troopers!

  4. I just woke up and got to work, but having worked on his shore kit I've give a bit of advice:

    Sandpaper

    Respirator half or full

    Googles

    Gloves (nitrle and regular work

Sandpaper various Grits, you'll want something rough to do the inside and knock down the edges

Sanding block can be helpful to and I like those sanding sponges for odd shaped areas

A dremmel with a cutting wheel and sanding drum and a cutting bit for the visor of bucket if your doing that and probably the cutouts

    Spot Putty and or Bondo

    A case of beer

    Primer

Paint- check some of the other builds for color code and advice there. I haven't done his TK so not sure

Patience- might help to turn on that song by Guns N Roses every now and than

    Files

    Clamps- can never have enough

    E6K

    Magnets

Nylon webbing, Elastic and Standard I'd do 1in and 3in

Tandy Snaps Line 24 with the tool and correct sized Aval

Mallet Wooden or a regular hammer might work but I've been messing up my tool and mushrooming it using my framing hammer on snaps

Good wood block and firm surface for setting snaps

    Velcro Industrial strength

I'm probably forgetting a few items but I'm sure more will chime in, be sure to take the time to read the Jimmi builds on here. Best advice I can give.

  5. Looks like MIMIC ran into some issues with the shoulder bells and some personal issues that are taxing them. This is probably gonna be on hold for awhile. Price I pay for not wanting to paint and all that.

On another note follow me same screen name on Jolly Roger Squad. I just ordered a First Order Tie Pilot from KB and SGB. After I just got done saying how I don't want to paint.

That probably wont get done before the movie comes out either. A bit disappointed but thankfully I have costumes still so can troop at all the events leading up in my shoretrooper.

  6. If you care about time, KB Props is your best option. They are great guys to work with, located out of Vegas. Pretty good quality. I've seen there kits and have been impressed by the work.

They even have a resin cast TLJ Bucket now that looks good, will need finish work though.

Anovos is the only licensed prop builder, but I wouldn't say that makes them the best.

  7. Slowly start to cut the lenses out with a dremmel. I drill a bunch of holes than play connect the dots with the dremmel. I can't stress to go slow enough

There are some lenses listed in resources I think

Looks like it's not finished so you'll have to sand prime and paint, which I'm assuming you have a bucket done so same process. Just take your time, let the coats dry fully

If you need pads you can find them on Amazon, I forgot what I searched for, but I didn't like them

I used an old hardhat and cut the bracket out and glued it in

Again just take your time and use the ref pictures, not sure if anyone has figured out the size for the black stripe but you can judge fairly well using the ref materials

I'd personally get your white layer down than go with the black
