  1. Looking good. At this point would also be a good to have an idea of where you will want the ears to go. I often pick a movie helmet with similar assembly positioning and use that as a reference. How far back, how far up, how much rotation. Main reasons for doing it now is to be sure the holes you drill will be hidden by the ear, and if using rivets first, to be sure they don't overlap where the ear screws will likely go. You will want to be sure the ear is positioned low enough to curve all the way around to the bottom of the tube to cover up any discontinuity where the front and back halves of the helmet meet there. Hope that made sense.

Thanks, yes it does make sense, bout to start the ears and get my copy of The Empire Strikes Back up!!

  2. I was literally about to order a Scott M helmet decal set, but I have recently just discovered ESB decals are different to ANH, as I thought ESB were simply ANH markings, but as decals rather than hand painted. So does Scott M do ESB decals? If not where can I get some ESB decals for a similar price?

    Thanks!!

KO22 makes a good suggestion. The point he's referring to is here.

There's a lot of stress at this location after the ears and u-trim are installed. Rounding off or squaring off where those two cut lines meet will reduce the chance of the plastic splitting there. Just cut out a small diameter semicircle or notch (2 mm or so) at the point where the cut lines meet. Don't make it too big, since It's also where the bottom of the U-trim will be, and you don't want it to droop.

    i.e. like this (I feel like I'm using a TRS-80)

  4. I have one suggestion on the top piece of the bucket. Under the traps instead of having it come to a point, try to round it a little just so that the plastic won't tear. Someone recommended that to me when I was making my bucket and I have not had an issue with it. Just be sure you do not go too high as you want the ear piece to cover those parts up. A rounded file should take care of it with just a few passes.

Sorry, where do you mean? (A photo could be helpful) thanks!

  5. Well my nickname isn't quite as emotional or cool as some of you guys, but it kind of just originates from the fact I'm Egyptian. My real name is Omar, so no relation there!! I used it as my steam username and all my friends loved it, so from there its just kinda stuck. Its mainly a joke I guess as practically everyone in my High School is aware I'm Egyptian, so using the word 'Anonymous' is just a bit of ironic humour. I guess you could say I'm honouring my Egyptian heritage with it? I use it on everything but my YouTube now, so its just become my Pseudonym I suppose. Anyway that's my story!!

  6. Today I have dremelled the teeth out and have been sanding and filing again. I am aware that I have accidentally cut an extra bit on the right hand side of the helmet, but I do have a plan on how to fix it. Anyway:

As you can see, not too much but just a little fine tuning.

  7. The ear trim trace as you have it might be too aggressive and leave a gap, particularly just before the end of the the round part to the bottom of the ear. You might want to make your first trace more conservative there to create a thicker ear at first. You can always trim and sand thinner but can't add back on. The best ear trim will depend on how you've assembled the helmet and where exactly you want to position the ear on the helmet.

  8. Nope, ESB has a special decal, much sharper, whilst ANH has hand painted details.

So, if you're going for ANH, you have to get hand painted style decals, or paint them yourselves.

If you going for ESB, you have to get ESB decals.

There's minor differences, but noticeable up close.

I personally like the look of ANH trooper.

Scott M does ESB then? Also is the hemet structure any different?

  9. Accepted :)

Not playing as much now, mostly late at night, after work. I got to level 35 and since then, levelling-up has been strenuous, with 59k points needed each time!

Only manage to play about an hour or less at a time before my eyes get strained :(

I feel ya, lots of revision at the minute so I only get weekends
