Hi there everyone,
So, if you can, cast your minds back to July/August this year, warmer weather and all that. However, more pressing than that, I recall that accessing the FISD, both normally and through tapatalk was basically impossible. I believe the reason for this was the website revamp, which, is great! However, I've found that since this, every post I've put on the FISD since the crash has got ZERO replies and views. This is unusual for the FISD as it's often a hive of buzzing activity, with replies on posts often in a matter of minutes.
Now unless I've been excommunicated, (which I hope I haven't been!!) I can't work out why this is?
Is tapatalk FISD down or something??
Thanks guys!!

Hi there guys!
So, I've done a couple of outings in the armour now and I've come across the same issue twice now. From the front my armour appears to fit fine, however from the side, the armour appears incredibly small/tight on me. I think it might be the return edge, but wanted to see what you thought before I go trimming it off!! I've put some photos of examples from different angles, so if you have an ideas on what I need to do, it'd be incredibly helpful!!

Hey everyone!
It's been a hectic few months since I was last on here, so I figured I'd put everything I have done down!
In brief;
In just over two months I've now finished the majority of the armour, all that needs sorting now is the thermal detonator and some rivet placement.
I attended my first full armour "troop" at LFCC, which went absolutely amazing. I've gotta say, I was not prepared for the amounts queuing for photos at the convention, really boosted confidence though !!If you see in the convention photos, you'll find I even fashioned myself a DIY Neck seal!!
I'm also aware a button plate dropped off and my hand guards are wrong, but I'm sorting it!!
The next time I'll wear the armour will be for Halloween, as we're decorating our house in a retro 80s horror theme.
Modifications I'll make will probably be refitting armour and taking as much of the excess return edge off (not too much though!)
No photos for this, but in general, I've been making an effort to lose weight for the armour to fit properly. While I'm aware I'll never have thin enough legs for the thighs to fit, I may as well lose as much as possible through regular gym and workout sessions.
Thanks for the support from everyone so far and hold on for more updates soon!!

[EDIT: It's been so long that I forgot that General Discussion was Hard Armour, not Assembly Mods and Painting, if something's could move it to Hard Armour, it'd be much appreciated ------------

Depending on how desperate you are to get the dye out, you can try Cif, which is like a kitchen tile cleaner. It has little particles that super lightly take dye and stains out of armour. USE IT SPARINGLY THOUGH, as the stuff will take the luster off if you use too muchHey all,
Been searching the forums and asked some folks from my garrison but no luck so far, kind of stuck on issue in the subject line.
I trooped a while back and for a number of not good reasons didn't unpack my kit when I returned home. I did open the lid to air it out by my wife shut it that night when she was doing some painting in the garage (it's heated and a good space for working on projects not cold and damp). I then went on an extended business trip so bottom line 4 weeks later I open my case and see the below. I left my neck seal on that area of armor and it seems like some of the dye bled into the ABS. Not sure how it could bleed into the ABS but it isn't on the surface as I've spent a significant amount of time using NOVUS 3 trying to get it out without much success (looks a little lighter than when I started).
I've heard some suggestions from sanding with fine grit sandpaper to finding some white dye (which is harder than you think!). I've also been told just to accept it and turn it into a sandie, as most of the kit is still shinny I would prefer not doing that if I can reverse or correct the blue streak.
Any advice would be appreciated!!!

FINALLY TAPATALK IS BACK UP!! The Build's been logged, but it's been difficult to upload pictures, which are paramount.

What is recommended is add shims using ABS past to fill in the seam. Afterwards install correct size cover strips. There are a few threads on how to do. FISD attache Walter Paet has a nice tutorial.
Awesome, however, I can't seem to find it, do you have a link? Thanks!!

Does anyone have any advice regarding cover strip sizes at the back of thighs? See my issue is that my thighs are very large, and as much as I like to think it's weight related, it appears to be genetic! Even though I'm working hard to lose weight in that area, I'm still not able to make them fit without a HUGE ridge showing. I've heard of solutions from extending the plastic to large back cover strips for the thigh pieces. Does anyone know the rules and regulations regarding extending the back strips? Thank you!!

Cover strip specs:
Arms 15mm
Legs (except calf) 20mm
Calf 25mm
Calf velcro install - If you've installed a 25mm cover strip, using mineral spirits or similar remove any oil or dirt by cleaning the cover strip extending from the shin, and the inside shin half, roughly 1/2" from the edge.
Using 3/8" to 1/2" wide strips install velcro the entire length of the calf or 2" long sections in three separate locations (upper, center, lower), similar to where hooks would have been installed.
Hope this helps
It really does!!!
Thank you!!

Hi there everyone, any tutorials you know regarding velcro shin backs? I've considered the hook method, but for now, I'm happy to simply velcro them together.
Additionally, does anyone know what the standings are on the cover strip and ridge sizes on Stormtrooper level? For example, if my ridge was above the recommended 15mm size, would that exclude me from achieving, say, Centurion Level? I've thoroughly read through the CRL and there seems to be nothing on that area. Finally, does anyone have any tutorials on shimming the kidney and abdomen gap? Thanks!!!!
PS, if moderators are reading, I LOVE THE NEW FISD!!!

Yes! Sorry about those photos, I'd be raking them outside if the weather wasn't so miserable today!
Forearms are still a little gunky though!
So when you say ridge I'm assuming you either mean like a return edge or the actual moulded ridge, so I'll answer for both!
If you mean the return edge, yes, I may have gone a little overboard, but I figured it'd be better to have too much than too little, as I can cut more off if I need!
If you mean the mould, That's as close as I can comfortably get them with 16mm strips unfortunately, thus leaving a huge plateau of ridged plastic! I'm more than open to any fixes though!

Here's the photos, I'll be uploading to the UKG shortly!!Can you post this up over on your WIP, on the UKG forum? Also, get the all round photos of the completed parts up there (on their own, not on you).
So main points;
>I'll be sanding down cover strips to the rims of the biceps
>There's some areas in which the glue hasn't been held strong enough, thus I'll be reapplying E6000 to the strips with magnets holding them down
>The inner biceps are VASTLY different shapes, both have been cut to the mold, is this what they're meant to look like??
Thanks!

So, first off, the image below has me wearing the completed arms, I'll get some better photos later, been busy for a bit!!
Secondly, and probably a little more pressingly, my thigh armor will not fit with the 20mm cover strips. Is there and chance that I could either make larger strips or somehow shim the thighs?
Thirdly, does anyone have an "easy" way to effectively do the shins? Obviously a cover strip covers the front, however there's hooks or something on the back seam? Is there any alternatives to hooks, like Velcro or snaps?
Fourthly, would you guys say webbing or elastic for the torso strapping?
Fifthly (wow), can someone explain what is going on with the sides of the abdomen plate? I really don't get the snaps/rivets thing. Also are there any good shimming tutorials out there you could recommend?
Thanks!

So like, of them on me? I've only got my biceps and forearms done at the minute, I'm currently working on my thighsOmar, can you post up some all-round photos of the biceps, forearms and leg parts?

Hey everyone, sorry for the hiatus, exams and non-stop armour building tends to hinder things!
So, here's the main updates:
>I've trimmed the majority of the armour, I think I've only got the left thigh to go now.
>All Biceps and Forearms are constructed, as you can see behind the kidney plate
>I'm working on an "adjustable" strapping system which I'll make via using a strip of webbing with a male press fastener (snap) on either end to connect to the female ones on the plates seen in the second photo
>I managed to get hold of a sondico base-layer set, and I've removed the logos on both pieces.
Today I'll be attempting to assemble the shins or thighs (whatever I feel like really).
So yeah, been busy!!
What do you guys think?

Rock on Steve! Oh also, us "younger ones", such as myself are very aware of records and VHS thank you very much! But seriously, you're a huge inspiration to myself and many others here on this forum, so keep up the inspiration trooper!!

Right, so, apologies for the lack of updates regarding the armour, will be a torrential flow soon! However, on a side note, I'm looking to start strapping soon, hence, I need some poppers (snaps, or whatever they're called). The TK300 tutorials suggest the prym 15mm make, however, if I get the amount he suggests, it's going to come to at least £21. Personally, I believe that's a little extortionate. Are there any cheaper options available?

Well, I've got till February till I can be officially cleared, but can I request TK11020 in the mean time?
Oh and if you want (or rather if I can), my reserves would be TK19806, TK19990 and TK23060.
Whether I can or can't isn't an issue as I can just check back for these when I get cleared!
Thanks

On another note, I have just received confirmation that my armor will arrive on Monday!!!
