Last step is to pair to my iPhone 7 Plus. I keep getting Request timeout error. I've changed the device access in the SETTINGS.TXT and it still won't pair.
BLE is "no-contract" pairing...meaning it's ad-hoc and you don't have to formally pair the device to your phone by using a pairing code. The access code that is in the SETTINGS.TXT file is a "password" that is entered when the app connects to your device.
Can you post a pic of your BLE? It should be either an HM-10 or an HM-10 clone such as the CC2541. If it's an HC-06 or HC-05 it's not a BLE and won't work.

It's real time.so can this transform my voice "real time" to sound like say "look sir droids" ? or is it just pre recorded random voices??

Speaker is not included.Hey I was wondering if the TKTalkie comes with the speaker or not. I couldn't tell by the video or the store. Just so I know if I need to get one.

From a quick scan of the instructions it looks like I can upgrade my v2 to v3 by wiring up the BLE module, loading the new sketch, and printing a new case, is that accurate?
Thanks for all your work on this. Excited about trying out this new version!
PS: the "Forum Thread" link on the website points to the v1 thread, not sure if that is intentional.
That's correct. You don't even need to print a new case...you can just drill a hole for the BLE jack in the side of you want
Thanks, I will fix the link.

No Android apps yet...I looked at doing one but there are hardware and latency issues with Android. You'll have to go with hardware. Checkout TKTalkie.com. It comes with a Bluetooth adapter that lets you control it from an app on either Android or iOS. (Full disclosure I make the TKTalkie )

Going to be a very slight delay on the iOS app...the only iOS device I have is a v2 iPad mini lol so have to test in emulators for the others, but found a couple small issues when it actually got on a phone. Just have to move a few things around is all

Hey guys,
TKTalkie v3 has been released, and contains a lot of new updates! The biggest one of course is BLE (Bluetooth Low-Energy) support via the TKTalkie App (iOS/Android) that allows you to control your TKTalkie remotely. Easily tweak settings, switch profiles and more!
In addition, you can now order your own TKTalkie via the TKTalkie Store. So...build it or buy it...your choice
The app is up on the Google Play Store and is just awaiting approval on the the App Store.
So what's new? There are a lot of code optimizations to make it run faster, and besides being able to control it with the mobile app, you can also manage different profiles - you can have a profile for your TK, one for your TD, etc... ONE TKTalkie for all your costumes!
Watch the video above to see how it works! Visit www.tktalkie.com for more info, and visit us on Facebook!

I have both. I prefer the Pyle...it's bigger but it's louder and I don't have the feedback issues that I did with the aker. I keep the aker as a backup now.Looking all over on here and I think everyone is using one or the other. They are both about the same price on Amazon. Is the 50 watt Pyle better or worse than the 12 watt Aker?? Thoughts? Pro's/Cons of each?

For the fans, all you will need is some wire (the same gauge as is currently on the fans) and a power source. I suggest getting a 4 AAA battery holder like thi------------ You can buy the ones that only hold 2 or 3 batteries, but they do not last very long power wise.
There are a few choices for voice changers, but they are not inexpensive unfortunately. There is one I would not suggest, and that is the one made by Hytechtoyz.
Fans used in the helmets use DC motors typically rated at 5 volts. DC motors will eat whatever current you throw at it, but more than their rating typically causes burnouts faster. 4 AA = 6 volts. You can get 3 AA holders with on/off switches on ebay and Amazon. 4.5V total and they fit easier in the helmet

I was hoping for aroind Apr 1 but life and technical issues got in the wayQuick question, when will V3 come out? Just a quick question. Thanks!
I am finished with the code and am wrapping up final testing and updating the tutorial and documentation. I did a final field test with myself and another TK this past weekend and the only issue I had was forgetting to recharge my wireless mic
I think I should have the new code and documentation ready within the week and will post here an on the TKTalkie FB page when it's ready.

I still want to design one for that. My initial design was too large. I still want to keep it as compact as possible, and having the ble external allows for different mounting option (for example if you put the TKT in your helmet.) I am playing around with a design, though. Thanks, I thought you meant you designed one to house the BLE. I will drill a hole but perfect for people new to this project!

Yep I'll get that up as soon as I can. It's just the V2 case with an extra openingThanks man, I don't have any troops until May so just doing some maintenance and playing with electronics until then. Sorry to hear about the printer. Will you release the file so we can get cases printed locally?

Any update?
Here is the tutorial for adding the BLE.
http://www.tktalkie.com/tutorial/v3
Please feel free to provide any feedback regarding the tutorial. I want to make it as easy to follow as possible.
I am hoping to have the sketch and app ready to go around Apr 1. I am making some much needed optimizations to the sketch and have a final field test of the app this weekend.
Also, I purchased a new 3d printer in order to produce cases but it arrived with some faulty parts and I still have not received replacement parts from the vendor, so that has thrown off that schedule :/ I'll come up with something different in the mean time I guess

I was thinking about something... could it be possible to make this setup both an hearing assist and a voice changer?
Since the voice changer is mono, we should be able to wire two mics on each channel and do the same with the output where it could go to an earpiece for one and to a speaker for the other. If the amplification is done past the split, this should help controlling the levels and keep at the appropriate levels without having a strong dependency.
Thoughts?

There may be a way to do that. The audio shield routes all signals through both the headphones and the line-out at the same time, so would have to see if there is a way to route signals separately. Also, I wear my TKTalkie in my chest plate by my speaker, so wiring may be an issue.
I like this idea, though! That's whats great about this project I think

I'm back in the U.S. and am trying to get the V3 tutorial finished up. Work is a bear right now and this weekend I have to finish my GF's TK in time for a Con, so working on it as I can. I'll try to get the wiring diagram for the BLE up here has fast as I can at least. Once V3 is ready to go I'll probably start a new thread.
-
If you are in to diy, checkout the TKTalkie threads here or www.tktalkie.com. It's a project you can build that is very customizable.I am currently getting all the parts together for my kit build and one of the subjects i have been researching is what electronics to use for the helmet? there are multiple options but no one seems to stand out as the best option.
I want to do the sound plus the static bursts and in the best way so i have no issues with volume, feedback and other little bugs. So what is the best setup? best option or at least the one with less issues? Any feedback or options from those that have been doing this for a while is much appreciated before going to the expense of purchase.
Thanks

Both line out and headphones have the same effect. It goes to a 3.5cable that is spliced into a JST cable that is spliced into cat5 and reversed on the other end.
ok well I'm not familiar with the setup. Is there a wiring diagram? It sounds like signal loss probably from a bad connection as you suggested.
-
I'm pretty sure they are stereo but I did put a jumper like your original tutorial showed how to from the start. I even added another one for lineout thinking maybe that was it. I reached out to ukswrath to see what he suggests first. Only thing I can think could possibly be it is a weak solder joint before or after the Cat5 to mono. It works fine when I bypass the harness and go straight from TKTalkie to the aux on the Pyle.
Ok so you are going from TKTalkie -> Harness -> Pyle Pro? Is the connection on your harness amplified? The line-out is heavily attenuated. Just for grins run from the headphones out to your harness and see if that helps.
-
I just picked up a Pyle 50w voice amp but now I am not getting anywhere near the volume when I hook it up to my harness compared to going straight to TKTalkie to Pyle. I guess I'll have to check all my solder joints because I'm using a mono line I have never used until now. I tried adjusting the line out settings but it didn't help. Only gets quiet when it's connected to my mono cable that's spliced into cat5 and back to a mono on the other end.
Are you using stereo female jacks? If so, check that you are wired to the left channel. If you are using stereo and have wired only one side, put a jumper wire between the two channels on the female jack and that should take care of it.
-
I picked up some 4 conductor shielded audio cable from Frys and used that fornl the mic connections and that cured my interference problem from fans. Hopefull will get to work onbl the ear speakers soon.I never had an issue with the headphone cables themselves, but I did have a terrible issue with the leads from the HA mics picking up a ton of RF noise from the wireless mic, hence the copper tape on the bracket that goes between those cables and the wireless mic.

Does the light ever go solid on your BLE? That would mean that it's getting a connection. If the light is solid but you are still getting a time out, that means that there is a communication issue somewhere (either between the BLE and the Teensy or between the Teensy and the app.) If it just keeps blinking then no connection is being made.
Are you using a BLE app such as LightBlue on your iPhone to find it? If you can see it in the normal Bluetooth pairing on your iPhone, it might not be a BLE. If you are using a BLE app and you can't see it, it's not a BLE. If you are using a BLE app and you can see it, double check that the light goes solid when you attempt to connect to it with the TKTalkie app. If it goes solid, there is a connection but a communication issue somewhere, which means I would check that the Serial In/Out connections on the BLE: the male jack, the female jack and the female jack to the Teensy are correct. Easiest way to do that is to plug everything up (but NOT power it on) and use a multimeter to test connectivity all the way through from the TX pin on the BLE to the RX pin on the Teensy, and same for RX -> TX.
