Really ??? I was really looking forward getting a nice helmet ... any suggestions then?

You dont need soldering. Get a mimi fan from radio shack ,a toggle switch and a 9v battery w/connector ... use electrical tape and thats it.. im a noon but has worked great for me .. i can send you a pic if you want

I know .. i was talking to Tony on eBay and it sounds great on the video .. thats the next thing on my wish list

I bought hyteck for 150 and it had the speaker ,amp ,hovi , voice changer and mic .... i had the same problems with feedback but found a way to eliminate it with sound proof foam and a face shield . I had to replace the mic and the hovi do not sound good and i was in touch with them to replace them but have not heard back. I saw hovies on eBay for 120 from one of the members here and they seem legit . Im hoping to get them later on when i recover for what I've been spending on electronics for helmet .. it sounds good without the hovies but thats just for me to have a helmet that works independentlyfrom the chest speaker. my recommendation is if you are getting hyteck get just the little square speaker with the amp and transmitter .. i hope this helped .. i can show you how it sounds just let me know

Shadowfax i am in the exact same problem with you. I spent 300 on the Rubies delux and over 200 on electronics for the helmet and i want to be part Of the 501st . They say if you contact your garrison they should also be ableto help you in how to join/questions but i havent heard anything from mine and its been a week i emailed some one there . I wish i could help but but again im also in the same position as you .... i wish you luck and please keep posting pictures of your progress as i will be learning from you .... so far all i know is that the rubies helmet not good even with all the money I've put in it. Im thinking of selling it and buying a EFX helmet but i dont know if its acceptable .. good luck and talk to you soon
