  1. I figured I'd do the original post on Gizmodo justice, and not change the title; however, as tkrestnova said, "Try not to judge a book by it's cover - or a thread by it's title". The rubies armor is horific. I'm so glad it's not allowed in the 501st. I think the guys who did this were trying to be funny when the chestplate went under the kidney plate. If you notice from other angles, it looks like he is wearing it proper. Who knows, I got a good chuckle. Blue milk!
  2. Wow, is the heroin comment a joke or not? Everyone's stepping around that comment like someone just cut a tauntaun open! You'll find something man, just don't think any job is beneath you. I've got a friend who's been jobless for about a year now, but if it's not a position that's anywhere close to what he was doing prior/went to school with, he won't even look at it... Don't be to picky, a job's a job in these times.
  3. I'm a very avid Gizmodo reader, not sure if any of you are, but I was browsing around tonight after work, and found this: The Death Star was Stormtroopers 9/11 It was pretty interesting, a couple good quips/gags. The stormie with the armor that kept changing really bothered me though (you don't have to look to hard). Figured I'd post this...
  4. No was just wondering if you lucked out and they accidentally put in two buckets. Wasn't sure, sorry I wasn't more accurate on my questioning!
  5. Thanks for the offer, but (right now) I'm getting ready to solder my omni-directional mics I picked up to the cabling, and connect em into the amp. I've got the amp, the speakers, and the mics. Just gotta wire my mics in, and cut my holes for my speakers . . . and I've got a amped helmet. I do personally want the sound coming from the mouth area, I don't like the chest idea, plus, a mic cable running (for those of us who don't want to spend a junk load of money right off the bat...) down the suit just never appealed to me! Thanks again! I hope I got some information out to others who like doing as much as they can on their own. Back to the suit. (Just got the ab/kidney plate affixed with a nice flush line!!!) On to finishing hopefully tomorrow!
  6. Well kids, I did it. I was told it was impossible. I was told I had to buy offline. I was told, with eyes rolled, that I'm crazy. But I have done it! I found myself some mini speakers locally. Now they are not as small as the aerator speakers, but they're small enough to be mounted behind the mask. I'll be posting pictures later today of the setup build, but here's some information: HMDX-Audio Speaker on the go Portable Speaker case (works with ipod and other mp3 players). Model # HMDX-GO. Barcode: 031262033543. CP-HMDXGOWG Uses 2 AA batteries. And of all places, found it at best buy. $10.00 I've got all disassembly photos, and reassembly photos, which I'll be posting a little later today... Just wanted to update you.
  7. Two buckets? How did you get two helmets? Did they both come with the kit, or did you buy a second one?
  8. AMAZING! You really put alot into this, hope everything works out, and you can start building more kits again!
  9. I got mine off of the bay of fleas, however I have noticed very few issues with it. Just a few weirdly cut angles, nothing a little sanding didn't fix! Plus, $449 for mine was a decent steal. Almost done building it also...
  10. Launchpad seems like he's a great supplier from what I've read (I guess I forgot to mention that I did the search option prior to posting, #1 rule of using a board, always search first...!) I guess I kinda want to buy a bunch of different speakers myself and see which are best, and not pay the price for assembly+shipping+markup+whatever cost. No offense to launchpad, but I have found speakers that are 2-3 dollars a pair, vs 10 + shipping. I was just wondering, who is supplying them. Guess I'll have to pm them.
  11. You know - I love, love, love learning new things. And as awesome as it is to be able to turn around and buy these awesome looking Hovi/Speaker/etc kits.... (Sorry Stomper - check your pm on why I never got back to you!) I'd really love to make a sound kit on my own. What I want to do is: Speakers in aerators, or speakers behind aerators with caps. Either or. NOW, I cannot seem to find anywhere on the forums where anyone, their mother, dog, or sith lord; gets their speakers. I understand you all have your mini-businesses, but please help!!!!! :0)D Radioshack has the 8ohm, 29mm version. I found a site that has a 20mm, 150 ohm dynamic element. 0.79" diameter x 0.1" thick speaker (I'm not sure if this would work or not...) But, from what I understand you need a 20mm to fit in the fx aerators...? Then of course, I'll start off with a cheap wallyworld voicebox and mic, and should be good to go (with the wiring, soldering, time, burns, loss of beard hair, back pain from leaning over my waaaaay to low work bench in the basement....*still rambling*) Thanks in advance anyone willing to answer!
  12. *EDIT* Website is working, photos should be viewable. I won't have another update for at least a week. I'm getting sent to Texas for work for the next few days. So it'll be kinda hard to work on the kit...
  13. Alright, sorry bout that lack of updates, got a little busy this weekend. I got a little work done on the kit, and figured I'd show some pics. Helmet Left side, I fixed the little paint issues that I had, this was shot prior to doing so. Helmet Right side (yours that is). Paint issues were fixed after taking this shot. Working on the Button Holes. Button Holes again. New update coming soon.
  14. So I cannot seem to find anyone who makes Black Canvas Belts, can't find anyone on the Stealth boards either. Does anyone have any recommendations!? We don't have any black canvas out here in our area that I can find... Would a work belt from a hardware store be acceptable? Thanks in advance!
  15. Great movie. I went in with an open mind, and really enjoyed it. I laughed alot, there were some pretty comedic moments. I now am looking forward to the tv series more. R2-KT was a great addition. Overall, definitely worth going to see. (I think it's a positive that I do love cgi work, so I think that made it more enjoyable to see. Oh and the femtroopers...that was great.)
  16. Umm...so on the helmet teeth, how far do you cut them, till it starts its little hill, or before that...?
  17. Interesting idea... Would make going to the bathroom easier... *watches thread*
  18. You could pull a Michael Phelps power eating routine for a month.... 12,000 calories... Breakfast... — three fried egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions, and mayo — one five-egg omelets — a bowl of grits — three slices of French toast with powdered sugar — three chocolate chip pancakes — two cups of coffee For lunch, Phelps drinks 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks, one pound of pasta with tomato sauce and two large ham and cheese sandwiches (with mayo) on white bread. For dinner, Phelps’ meal consists of six to eight slices of pizza, another pound of pasta with tomato sauce, and 1,000 calories of energy drinks. I'd say, work out a little though... Info pulled from Here.
  19. Now is this tear-apart-able (yeah new word) so that you can attach it to aerator speakers instead? Or would this be better for the chest speaker aspect...?
  20. Everytime I look at his pictures of that, I really do appreciate it more. The Rivetting there just gives it a "I'm actually armor, and I'm built to kick butt and take names" feeling. I really might take his approach on this. Any word on whether that rivet job would give me issues getting 501st status? *EDIT* With my frame size, I don't think I'm going to have to shim any. But I still think I'm going to highly consider rivetting them (I Assume thats what you did...) together.
  21. Interesting very interesting. I'll definitely think about that. An update, I got both of the upper arm pieces done last night. I'm trying to figure out which to go to next, thighs, or calves, or upper body. I've really been leaning towards the upper body, as for some reason, I want to go neck down, and helmet last. So this weekend might just be finishing the upper. On that note, I do have to go buy some suspenders, as I think I'm going to go Dave's Garage style, I've seen a couple of other styles, and i'm to busy flipping a coin... We'll see. Plus, busy weeks ahead, I'm just hoping I can get some work on it this weekend. (Oh and I got the hand armor done! Hah. hahah. haha. )
