  1. I'm glad to say it came on-time and intact (well, technically two pieces and some parts). --------

It really is a great face pull, and the cap is bumpy in a way that looks similar the originals.

Without knowing what "hardware" was included, I didn't buy anything yet. And without included instructions, even the best howto I've found (Pandatrooper's) helps a lot still leaves quite a bit to my imagination :) I know I'll need curved plastic cutting scissors and some glue but what type/brand is best for ABS plastic? Any other quick pointers would be great. Next stop: hobby store?Hardware store? Thanks everybody

  2. My first ATA is nearly delivered and I'm going crazy with all the cool options for internals. My goal is to eventually configure a self-contained, functional helmet in terms of voice modulation and speaker.

I found hovi mic tips with speakers inside:

    And I found the iComm:

But is there any way to have the hovi mic amp power the iComm instead of the Aker amp? Or am I being too idealistic for having almost no electronics hardware experience outside of computers. Thanks all

EDIT - I also read the walkie-talkie post and wonder if somebody good at the sort of thing could take a pair apart and mount the workings inside a helmet? Seems relatively easy... maybe?

  3. I saw that the rubber ones were out of my range for now, so I've decided to dig out my legitimately weathered old friend. Too bad I have to paint it black, right now I know it looks like sandtrooper armor weathering lol. Hope the batteries haven't corroded the poor thing too much to function or I'm gonna have to go to Disneyland specifically for a new one. Thanks guys!

  4. I'm tall and skinny and wanna make sure I'll have the right ratio of black:white. From what I read on the forums I should fit in terms of weight, 165 lbs, but I'm 6 ft 2 in. Is ATA a good choice for those with longer but thinner arms n legs? I'd hate for the plates to be just plain too small for me, and I'm unfamiliar with shimming (if that's even for length!). I know (think) that ATA is like TE2 and AP in size and I've seen some great looking examples of 6+ foot tall TKs sporting those, but I just wanted to ask from someone with 1st or even 2nd hand experience. Thanks

  5. My old Hasbro only has the light in the tip. Good to know there's variation between models. I'll get a new one for a conversion then

...so I got a new Hasbro blaster from Disneyland and it's the same exact toy (no light-up barrel like Fett's gun or Aussie E-11s) and they swapped the sound boards from the E-11 with that of the old DL-44. So I'm keeping my E-11 and DL-44 from 1996 and modding the new, silly-sounding, boring-barreled one. Weird that they changed them, eh?

  6. I'm gonna need an E-11 at some point and considering the Hasbro doesn't cut the mustard for higher stuff, should I be looking for a foam/rubber or a PVC or a resin DIY kit? Or should I just convert the well-used toy one from my youth because who cares about awards and it'd be kind of my relic? Just wondering if anyone had any horror stories or praises to sing

  7. I'm in the same boat and I went with ATA ("affordable trooper armor"). Helmet DIY kits are affordable indeed and it's a 7 month wait list for armor. So it comes to about 2/3 of what others ask for armor after you buy the helmet now. It was the only way I could rationalize ever buying the aforementioned dream-come-true full costume :)

  8. Just contact your GML and send a pleasant message asking if your submission photos were received

I wish I were that far! I meant that I've signed up for a SCG account as "working on it" but I still can't make posts after a few days. Again, if it's servers or sdcc then I'll be patient. Don't wanna clog up the system with multiple applications, but I also don't wanna be forgotten :)

  9. Got my first bucket the other day, an ANH TK from eFX. The ATA guy says he has helmet DIY kits on hand and for $30 less than the eFX. I'm new to building but I feel like I should return the eFX and get an ATA. Right? I plan to get armor some day (he's up to a 7 month wait list now) so another question is do other ABS armors match ATA's "special blend"? I just wanna end up with a great-looking suit and I know the eFX can't be level III approved. Thanks!

  10. Hi all. Life-long fan, I've collected the 5 1/2 inch "Star Wars guys" since but I'm new to collecting nice-looking 1:1 replicas. I was the perfect age for Hasbro's electronic toys in the 90s so I'm still very happy to have recently acquired Luke and Vader ANH ForceFX sabers (awesome upgrade from telescopic type) and just ordered a eFX ANH stormtrooper bucket which is pretty exciting. I also just emailed the AM armor guy and I got a quote (within minutes!) for an amount I'd be comfortable with spending on it, but my experience with plastic-work is limited to small models of Luke's X-wing and Vader's TIE (along with F-4 and F-15C jets) which may or may not apply here... I did at least use glue, decals and hand-paint them, so that may come in handy for helmets etc. I'm from north OC, 6'1/160lbs and glad to finally join the club.Still waiting on a response from the 501st, but I want my designation to be TK-92831 (saw it wasn't taken yet, so DIBS!) I'm loving all the knowledge and courtesy within these pages, keep up the great work, everyone.
