    Don't want to bash the belgians, but if you take look at their 3D-models, you will quickly see that they are ... not good.

    Sometimes simply wrong, nearly all the time oversimplified.

     

    Also the low prices make me very suspicious ...

     

    Would like to see a photo of the final product.

    The photos they supply have nothing in common with their 3D-models ...

    Hi Marc,

     

    my setup only consist of an Aker and an mp3 player.

    As the Aker has two input channels (one for the mic), I use the other one to plug in an old mp3 player. I have the imperial march and different chatter files on it (you will find the files in the members only section of the 501st page after you were approved for membership).

     

    I adjusted the mp3 player to be considerably lower than my voice.

    I wear my aker around my neck under my breastplate, and believe me, the radio chatter is loud enough to interfere a communication with guests or other TKs.

    You don't want that inside your helmet!

    (Besides the whirring of the fan in your helmet alone may be enough to seriously impair your hearing, you don't need anything else ...)

    First of all, you look good in your armor!

    Yes, there are a few things that should be changed, but it's not a big deal.

     

    Take a look at the CRL and most of the needed changes become obvious to you. Take your time, ask a lot of questions.

    1. The shoes definitely need to go. They are not only not approvable, they are ugly as hell.  :D

    2. The thermal detonator really seems to have the wrong dimensions. Not necessarily to small in diameter, but too long.

    There are photos of an original one with measurements in the photo gallery.

    3. Your backplate needs to rest on top of the return edge of the kidney plate, not overlap it. It then will sit considerably higher and won't show too much of your black undersuit. Right now, you have too much "cleavage" in the back. This also means you need to shorten the shoulderstraps holding your brest- and backplate together.

    4. Your holster needs to be attached diferently. No need to buy a new one, you can just cut of the leather strips on the outer side.

    5. If you can walk comfortably, there is also no need to shorten the thighs. They look good the way they are ...

    6. The breastplate and the backplate are only attached to each other at the shoulder. Backplate is attached to the kidney, the kidney is attached to the bottom plate. Kidney is also attoched to the abs. Take a look at EIB or Centurion applications, to see the different possibilities to do the internal strapping.

    7. Around the opening of the helmet there is supposed to be a rubber lip, that also needs to be of a certain design. Please refer to the CRL for that.

     

    You have a good stormtrooper posture when standing and obviuosly know how to pose.

    Good start!

     

    Edit: Just read that you are in the army. No wonder you know how to present your armor.

    Hi Pierre, welcome to the white zone!

     

    You definitely need a different translator, as your post is very hard to understand.

    I tried to retranslate it into french and think I understood at least half of it.

     

    I hope that some of our french or canadian members chime in.

    You then can ask them via PM.

     

    As far as I understand, you are looking for suppliers for a DLT-19, correct?

    There are different possible sources:

     

    Look for "ASH" here on the forum or for "Hyperfirm". "Doopy-Doo" from GB offered them some time ago, too, but they are out of stock for quite some time.

     

    There are even some threads here, where some folks build their own out of nothing. Look for "poor mans build" in the title.

     

    Last, there also is a french section on FISD. You will find at the bottom of the main page.

  8. Where to get cheap armor

    You are looking for 10-20 sets of first order stormtrooper gear?

     

    Wow.

     

    So far there are two sources for TFA armor: Anovos (they don't sell to the public, yet) and a member from the Philipines.

    Both are way beyond the 1000$ mark.

     

    The only solution for you would be to get Halloween costumes or to only film talking heads, because the helmets only are cheaper to come by.

     

    But please keep us updated. I am very interested in your solution.

    This is not "Trooper helping Troopers".

     

    And he is a member of the 501st?

    Someone should look into this ...

     

     

    By the way, I am the same height and weight, 47 years old and proudly wear my TM for trooping.

    I think I look splendid in my armor and you will, too! (in your armor, of course, not mine ...)

    Nope, nope and ... err ... nope.

     

    Let me explain why:

    The neckseal is simply wrong. Just wrong.

    It needs to have ribs, the more the better, and they need to be made of a material that looks like rubber or leather.

    Darman here on FISD makes some very good ones. Take a look at the photo galleries here or the threads for EIB or Centurion approval to see what you should be looking for.

     

    The pauldron is for sandtroopers only. That is a different detachment. Look for "mos eisley police department" online.

     

    These shoes have seam running from the tip of the shoe up the shaft. Not approvable. You get correct ones for the same price from "imperial boots"

    Saves you a lot of money and disappointment.

  16. Original wire strapping system vs. strap/snap plate - Opinion?

    Although Locitus so very charmingly gave you a list with all the threads concerning this topic, I still like to chime in.

     

    As you know I wear a TM with the original strapping (and only that one, so I can't speak on the behalf of the snapplate rigging) and I am 100% satisfied.

    First of all, for me it was the idea of dong it "correctly", like Troopermaster Paul says so often.

    Screen accurate.

    Yes, you will see the screws beneath the breast plate and in the back.

    But that's the trick and it only shows that you emphasize the "A new Hope"-ness of your costume.

    No bystander will ever notice them, but you know that they are there and for a reason.

    (I have read threads where Troopers built their armor with snaps and elastics but still build in the screws, just for the look of it.)

     

    Will it move better? Will it be more comfortable?

    Honestly, I don't know.

    Is it durable?

    Yes. (although I have to confess that I lost a screw during a troop and my a ss began to droop.)

    So far the only hole in my armor that tore off the plastic, was in the back of my shins (I use the bra-clip-method.), but not the screws of the brackets ...

     

    I went the easy route and ordered the strapping set from Paul. Everything (!) is included and it makes installing a breeze.

    It took me an afternoon and my armour was strapped.

    No plastic cutting, plate drilling, webbing gluing, adjusting and snap installing.

    The bracket method is more or less fool-proof, too.

     

    BUT ...

     

    The biggest disadvantage is, that once strapped with the brackets method, you can't take it apart easily for transportation.

    You are stuck with a complete torso.

     

    So now it is up to you ...

  17. TM Armor finish: 1.5mm gloss ABS vs. 2mm acrylic capped ABS

    I own the 1.5 mm armor with original strapping.

    Although 1.5 mm sounds pretty thin, actually it isn't.

    The helmet is so sturdy that you could sit on it and the rest has the right mix of flexibility and durability.

     

    Paul always advises his customers to get the 1.5 mm if they want to use the screwed on brackets (aka original strapping), because the return edges will bend while trooping and are not likely to break with 1.5 because it has more flexibility.

     

    The shininess is absolutely okay and I personally like the slight (!) ivory color a lot more than the bluish white.

     

    While building you can cut the 1.5 mm with ordinary scissors, at least I did.

    Sanding is easy and you can build it a lot faster.

     

    The flexibility of the 1.5mm is the most important with the shins. When putting them on, they are extremely bend outwards to get them around your legs.

    Yes I have two spots where the armor is cracked (the sniper knee and the upper torso armor) but I have met at least five troopers with the same cracks, with different armors. So this has nothing to do with the material but simply with  wearing the armor.

  24. Trooper horror stories

    On a troop at a cinema for the premiere I encountered two foreign mothers who were completely overexcited.

     

    One asked me to hold her baby for a photo and it took me quite some time to explain to her my view of safety precautions.

     

    The other mom pressed her six year old son violently into my crotch area, ripped the blaster from my hands (don't worry, was a Rubie's) and gave it to her son.

    This happened so fast, that I didn't have a chance to complain.

    Thankfully the little one was as puzzled as I was and gave me back the blaster without any problems.

     

    Another incident on the same troop was a frenchman who wanted to take a photo with me on his right and a TFA on his left. He grabbed us around our shoulders and started pressing.

    The TFA went nuts, but the guest was just smiling crazily and didn't understand german or english.

    I just let it happen and prayed for it being over soon.
