  1. I found that CPVC pipe is exactly the same color as humbrol #5. That's what I used for my thermal detonator so I didn't need to worry about painting anything.
  2. Yeah, broke down and bought a heavy canvas belt from someone here on the boards yesterday.
  3. I'm using the canvas/elastic belt that came with the AP set and I want to rivet my holster to it. I did a search and found that a few people had mounted a strip of plastic behind the belt to help keep it rigid. My question is how well has this worked out for whoever's tried it. Does the drilled hole cause the belt to tear when stretched? How would you guys add the hole into the belt...drilling? or should I buy a fabric hole punch? Also is there a specific distance the holster needs to be mounted from the ABS part of the belt?
  4. I agree with Supertrooper. I glued the biceps, forearms and thighs shut and just left the calves able to open. Partly for aesthetic as I felt the armor looked better with everything glued together, also for safety reasons. I didn't want to be out trooping and have a bunch of velcroed pieces come apart.
  5. I understand your view completely on the idealized MR helmet. With that said, personally I would leave the gap to not only stay cannon, but also I'm so used to seeing a gap on a trooper helmet that to fill it in would make it look a bit off IMO.
  6. Thats cool. I would still check out a plumbing store for the CPVC; it comes in different diameters and at least you'd have the correct color without having to paint it. If you go the route of buying pipe you'll want to check out staples.com for a set of bankers clasps to rivet to the pipe. So that you can hang the detonator on your belt.
  7. The pipe diameter is 2.38 inches exactly. If your interested I'm selling a untrimmed AP thermal detonator set for $50, in case you want to replace the FX one entirely. I know the end caps for the AP will fit exactly.
  8. I would ditch the plastic pieces and pick up some CPVC from a plumbing supply. Get 2"/50MM in diameter piping, it should fit the end caps perfectly so you don't have to glue them in place. The CPVC is the correct grey color as well so you don't have to paint it. If you can't find it shoot me a PM. I have a bunch of the stuff left over and could sell and ship you a piece.
  9. Contact info sent via PM I have a set of AP armor and love it; IMO I think it's one of the more accurate set of armors out there. The kit is made for someone between 6' and 5'7 so it should fit you perfectly.
  10. Thanks for all the compliments. Hoping it's good enough to finally get accepted into the 501st once I apply. Bigturc, yeah I noticed that about the eye after I completed the helmet and installed everything in it. It's most likely something I'll go back to in the future after a bit of a rest from this project:)
  11. Here's a close up shot of the back of the ANH suit. Personally I used 5/8 on the arms and 7/8 on all the leg armor.
  12. Well finally after months of blood, sweat and tears I finally finished my AP suit today and thought I'd post pics of my first test fitting and see what you guys thought. Can't wait to wear this out in public with the 501st. I was pretty blown away today when I first saw the suit all together.
  13. Just to let everyone know, Mark got in contact with me and everythings golden. Now to go back to the never ending task of trimming armor
  14. lol...no worries there I've been trimming the armor out like a madman. That combined with the time it'll take to fit it to me will probably be another week or so. This is my first time buying a fan made costume this expensive..so yeah I'm sure I'm overworrying. Just thought I'd ask around and see if anybody had heard something.
  15. I'm recently new to costuming and picked up a set of AP armor from Mark to build up and apply to the 501st. Once I recieved the set, everything looked great but the package was missing the calf armor for the left side only on both legs. I contacted Mark yesterday and haven't heard anything yet which seems odd as he was pretty quick to respond when I intially had questions about the armor. Does anybody know if he's away on vacation or something? Thanks
