  1. Hi DD,

You need to cut more from the front off the ear than the back, as in pic's 6-7 of the first post. If you also add the correct screw's to the earcaps this pull's the entire ear section in, the helmet backpiece will also give a little. There should be no more a perceivable slant than you would find on a T*E or Gino lid if done well IMHO.

    hope this help's

So you have the ear screws punch through to the inside of the lid? I was thinking this as well. I have the outlet cover screws, which are small, but I'm sure I can find #6 or whatever that could come straight through to the inside of the lid. I think I'll start with the decals and work my way up. I just got my amp board from a local hobby electrical shop, so I'm doing a few things at once.

On to something entirely else. The aerator mic tips. What is holding them on? Glue? I'm tring to find train speakers, but no luck locally so I'll have to get them from Scott M (?? - can't remember if he sells them). Anyway. Can I just pull them off with some pressure or are they attached via some type of connection like the ear pieces?

  2. Oh,that´s enough?I must cut nothing from this parts(orange markings)?

And what decals are you using for the blue stripes on the tubes?Or are they painted?I´ve stripes from trooperdecals.com,but under direct daylight, they are looking more violet as blue. ;)

I'm assuming that when the large section in front is cut, it will lean in slightly? Because the back portion is a higher elevation then the front section (thus the front is a larger section). So I stop cutting once the radius stops?

I didn't think this bucket would be so tight. Adding in my fans and mic system might prove to be a challenge!

  3. This may help clarify size. the FX kit is pretty versatile as far as fitting a wide range of sizes, from short to tall with relative ease and some trimming:

Outside of the lid on the FX, looks good for me. I got the MR CE bucket (should have it today if UPS decides to show). So now I just need the ...fun stuff. UPS just showed up!

    BRB...gotta check it out..

    DD.

  4. I am 5'10" - 5'11" (depending on the day, and if I shave!!!!).

My first kit was an FX and it fits fine. I did trim a bunch off the thighs, but other than that, it was a good fit.

I do agree with Paul, in that there are other sets out there, and you might pay just a little more, but it is totally worth it in the end!!

So a trim and a shave and I should be good. I like the idea of the larger bucket to allow the mods I plan to install (every conceivable thing I can put into it!). Okay, so I'll cut my teeth on the FX and when I win the lottery or lose a leg at work and get comp I can buy a better suit.

    Thanks Scott!

  5. Not sure about "swimming", but most people have to shim/trim depending on their exact body type. Unless you're on a tight budget, I'd not recommend FX and get something more accurate and closer to your build, such as AP or TE2, though both require trimming.

If you're dead set on FX it should fit you OK - smaller folks have made it work for sure. Just be very careful who you order FX from - there are a lot of shady dealers out there.

Dead set on price right now . But, still a nice chunk of coin to drop on something which may or may not fit me well. What I'd like to know is how many on this board have FX and are around my dimensions? How much work is it to make the FX looks good?

    Any help is much appreciated...

    Cheers,

    DD.

  6. Sorry. I've looked, but nothing really addresses the right fit for the FX armour. To the point, I'm 5'11" and around 180lbs. I've heard that FX is for the larger trooper. Will I be swimming in it?

If not, I guess I'm settled on getting a set (thanks for everyone who's helped me in my decision making!). But I just want to make sure I'm making the right decision.

    Cheers.

  7. Could someone PM me if they know the cost of the RT-mod lid? I've emailed him, but no response yet, so I'm assuming he's flying around.

The reason for asking is I'm putting my budget together for this whole thing and want to know if it’s in the cards (i.e. I get a FX lite kit with a RT bucket). Once the budget is done, I'll have to of course transfer that to a PowerPoint presentation and bring it to the committee; which oddly enough consists only of my wife. Go figure.

    Thanks...

  8. My big issue with any of the voice amp setups is the "static burst". If you watch ANH it is not a burst but a click, viewed on Tattoine in Mos Eisley and also at teh tractor beam. The click is undeniable. I can see it being all to difficult to put in a click vs the static.

If you are making your own static by blowing across the microphone ou could also make the click by inhaling and using your tongue on the roof of your mouth. I am a pilot and played around this week while I was flying. You can easily make the click after a little practice.

Of course it would be much nicer to have it auto after you finished speaking.

I think its a mixture of a click and a static burst. Funny, all the clips I've searched and remember have the click/burst before they talk. The famous 'Look Sir, droids' line has a slight burst after the officer speaking (The tracks go off in this direction) and then a static burst before - "Look sir droids".

    Look Sir Droids

Now I'm confused. Eitherway, its sounds pretty good.

  9. Hi. Just curious. Does anyone have either of these and how are they? Are they worth the extra expense? Once I do get my TK armour I'd like to mod it out with some type of amp system. I can get a mini-amp circuit board locally for about $20. But I will not have the static-burst unless I write my own programming and somehow imprint it onto an Eprom on the board. So...$20 vs. $120.

I think I know the answer..the static burst makes the whole thing. But the added expense topped with the price of armour. Well, lets just say my wife doesn't share my enthusiasm for Star Wars. So I think you know where I'm going with that.

Actually, does anyone know of another unit which offers the burst at a lower cost? I've only found these two so far.

    Thanks...

    DD.

  10. Hey, thanks for all the warm welcomes.

I've got a long melon, but the I've got glasses, I suppose contacts are an option - but to bad cloning isn't up to snuff or else I'd order some new retinas :D

I think I'll start with the full FX and then work my way up to a more accurate helmet. However, if the rumours are true, maybe the new FX bucket will come out soon and I can go with that. If not, I'll upgrade to the AP...TE2..or if I can track down an RT-mod helmet and put my FX bucket on display.

Look forward to learning more about the costuming side of SW!

    Thanks again...!!

  11. Welcome Darcy :salute:

I'm looking to get my first armour too, and really would like RT-Mod, still looking though and starting to collect all the other extra parts of the uniform!!

Hey Ghost. Yes, the RT-Mod looks really nice and seeing as I'm a Canuck, I'd like to support the local talent. However, like all things money is a concern and I may only be able to afford a FX and mod it out how I like it.

  12. Hello. Guess I should introduce myself. New to the costuming aspect of SW. Been a fan since the first movie (although I don't remember seeing it in the theatre - do remember Empire though..and we'll just skip over Jedi for now).

Pretty much always wanted to get my own set of armour ever since I could remember, didn't even know I could. I use to make my own things from various materials around the house when I was little. When I got older I did my own Imperial Guard and Boba out of plaster and paper mache. If I can dig up the photos I'll post them if that's cool?

I've pretty much passed on my passion for SW to my kids, mostly my son (6) who now has a larger collection of light sabers than I did. His latest acquisition is a Vader mask with voxbox. Ever since he has seen me looking at various sites with TKs, and the fact I mentioned I want to get a suit for myself, he's been pretty excited. I found a site that shows how to make a kid set with foam pad. I'm thinking of making him that and getting my own suit to do some Father/Son trick-or-treating this coming Halloween.

That's really me in a nut shell. I've seen a few Ebay auctions with armour, mostly FX. From reading posts on this forum and others I see that FX isn't the ideal, but a good beginner suit. I would like to start with that, maybe get a better looking bucket - but the larger size might be better suited to install the gadgets I'd like to have.

So..that's it. Glad to be here and hope my constant questions won't pi$$ anyone off.

    Cheers...

    Rytil :D
