  1. Too funny! Yeah, Derek and his armor woes. I think he set the record for assistance on a build as well as "talking off the ledge!" I think our squad has 14 active TK's with at least 6 more in the pipeline. Always a popular first outfit the TK...and there can never be too many of us! I just wish all of them were the correct (my) height!!! Nothing worse than standing next to a 6'+ TK.

  2. It depends on what you are interested in.(I know...you haven't seen them to compare). I have a DoopyDoos resin kit and it has a nice weight to it but can be fragile. The Hasbro (or newer, better version) can be modded and is lighter. A pipe build (and the DD kit) have to be built. There is also a Hyperfirm that's all rubber but a bit more pricey and harder to come by. It's really up to you what you'd like to tackle as well as how authentic you want to go.

  3. Tim, I've already been in touch with Steve and he's in good hands here in the TBS. We're already planning a special AP just for the ANOVOS kits as several members have ordered them. With so many new members joining us lately, we've been having armor parties every month. We're only planning on stopping them during SWW then they're back in July. I've personally helped several new TKs with their builds lately. Here's to hoping the new kits are up to par as we'll be cranking them out assembly line style once they arrive.

Steve, if you have any questions make sure you either ask on these boards or you can send me a PM as well especially if it's squad related.

  4. TKs of the Florida Garrison (and one TK from Georgia) made a surprise appearance yesterday marching in 2 squads throughout the park all day at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Taking 4 different routes, we marched with an officer (Disney's) through the crowds stopping occasionally to pose for photos. It was a long 8 hour shift for each squad of 8 (with some overlap) but extremely fun and Disney and their crew took great care of us!

The guests had no idea we were coming and all the while, our officer was barking out Imperial decrees and ordering hecklers to be shot. It seemed like everyone who wanted or posed with us for pictures had some sort of Star Wars gear on even though HS wasn't doing anything special (other than us) that day at the park. So many fans celebrating "on their own" made me constantly smile. It was well worth the 4 rather large blisters on my feet from a full day of marching...in unison no less!

  5. Hey Jimmy, welcome to the Legion in White! I haven't seen you sign up on our Florida Garrison boards yet and you can do so here: http://fl501st.com/
I am the New Member Recruitment Coordinator for the Tampa Bay Squad which you would be part of. We're a very busy squad and have about 100 active members. Let me know if you have any questions and when you sign up on our boards I'll send you a welcome packet with lots of info. Oh, and of course I'm also a TK!

  6. So after over 60+ troops in armor I set up my first troop as a POC. Back in October an arcade called "Replay Amusement Museum" opened with over 100 classic pinball and arcade games. For a one time fee you can play all day! I've been contacting them on and off for a while and finally locked in the date of April 4th for a troop. We're a very busy squad with over 130 troops last year alone.

They wanted to do a video to promote the event to post on their Facebook page. That first video now has over 10,000 views! Lulaville Pictures did a great job with it and then were there that day to film as well. I've posted both videos below for everyone to enjoy.

  7. Welcome Brian to the Legion in White! Regardless if you're joining the 501st or not (not sure why not) you should look through the many build threads here and use them to assist in your build. Even though the ANOVOUS armor isn't out yet, following anothers build will help tremendously. While you're waiting, start to gather other things like building supplies and accessories (although it sounds like they are giving quite a bit of extras with the armor). Good luck!

  8. Dustin,

Welcome to the Florida Garrison and the Tampa Bay Squad! I haven't seen you post on our boards yet which is here: http://www.fl501st.com/boards/We are a very busy squad and you'll have tons of opportunity to troop once your armor is completed. Speaking of which, we have an armor party (where we get together and work on them) coming up this Sunday in Clearwater if you'd like to stop by and meet some of the squad and see what goes into a build. Just send me a PM and I can get you the address. Again, make sure you sign up on the FLG boards and I'll see you out there soon!

  9. Matthew, I ended up taking quite a lot off of mine and I'm 5'9. Like Joe said, use a pencil and do it in small amounts until you're happy. Just make sure you keep the contour the same and don't "round off" the tops like I've seen happen before. You want the top of your thighs to follow the cod piece like the group photo above.

  10. Thanks for all your help gentlemen! I told Scooter that if he came here for help that he would find a wealth of friendly knowledge and you all didn't disappoint!  My kit is an ATA and when I saw the photos of his, I wasn't sure it was AM as some things just didn't look right. I'm glad he's got replacement items on the way and in no time he will be trooping with the mighty Tampa Bay Squad!

Good luck Scooter and as I've said to you before...ask questions and most of all...HAVE FUN with your build!!!
