There IS a fix for this...

Yellowing of plastic is caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight, the UV reacts chemically with the materials in the plastic and can not be removed with any commercially available product.

I did a bit of Google research before coming upon this site ---------------

Developed by computer boffins & chemical engineers who were trying to find a way to whiten retro PC cases, monitors & keyboards, it uses simple, easy to find ingredients to reverse the yellowing process in plastics, particularly ABS.

It won't fade or lift stickers or decals and it doesn't adversely affect the surface area of the plastic by corrosion.

    Costs & sources were;

Hi-Lift Peroxide (one litre from Hairdresser supplies shop) - $10.00

Sard Oxy Plus (1kg From Supermarket) - $5.95

Glycerine (100 ml Chemists Warehouse) $5.50

Xantham Gum (From Health Food Shop) $5.50

I am happy to say that in just a few hours in the sun my bucket is now as shiny white as the day it was assembled.

So, if you have anything plastic that has been yellowed or faded by the sun, I can recommend giving this a try - it actually works!

    Cheers,

    b

Perhaps this should be in the Tip's & how too Section with several pic's of it being done on a TK lid with the before , the method & after shots? or risk fading into the "have to search for" section

I'm sure there a couple of troopers here who would like to refresh their Old yellowing lid.

  2. I've tried a couple of servers on this thread & I'm just getting this mssg!

    Sorry, Service Temporarily Unavailable.

Additionally, a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

what am I doing wrong  because I'd like to see the pic's :)

  3. Wish we had stuff like this in the UK, but sadly we just get stuck with Thesp type's running you around York going from Pub to Pub visiting all the Haunt's that Dick Turpin "supposedly drank in", in retrospect I guess it's not to bad :D

I'm sure I've seen a zombie Tk somewhere on my travels, anyone we know here?

  4. Cool project, it's not often you see many model's/props on the forum :)

I once did the big ship with the firbe-optic thingies, that was when I was younger & it was no way near as nice as the kit in your pic's. B) I had a few other model's/kit's but my my talents were in different directions <_<

So how tall does the Revell AT-AT stand when it's completed?

  5. Hi Gary,

AFIK the insistance on Elite standards is to have a blanket standard across all troop's who want to aim for that particular set up, regardless of which Armour, it's more in the overall look with specific atributes "ticked".

Yep there are differences between "on screen troopers" & for another example as seen on E-11 Hengstler's but to maintain uniformity a vote was cast on that topic a wile back too.

The guy's have already suggested great alternative ways to re-enforce the belt for trooping :)

& just like Manny posted, it's above & beyond the entry requirements so should'nt discourage ppl joining up from square one.

If you have screen grab's of the alternative belt's? I'm sure others like me would like to see what you found :)

  6. ------------

I'm not sure if the above pic is any use? as I previously may have posted  I masked the frown off at the apex of the lip curve with electrical tape as it's quite "givvy", then for the end's I just carefully used a small paintbrush & little by little added paint to give it a rounded off look.

  7. I definately remember them shooting it in the desert. I wish I knew how to find that documentary. It was showing at the St. Louis Science Center in the 90's. A girl that I was dating had their X-mas party there and this was the movie playing at the OmniMax.

Those helmets on posted above look very different from ANH. Dare I say ... ugly.

The RTOJ look might grow on you?

    It did on me B)

  8. Some very nice screen used stuff there bro. Good luck!

If they don't sell might be worth heading over to the Movie Prop Forum.

    Joe

Thanks Joe, I've tried joining the movie prop Forum for well over a year now but no joy :( IFIK you need to be/know/sponsered by two active members & I only know one & that's Jason via email.

  9. Mark is quite right :)

I thought best to link this other "ESB holster" thread? seeing as this thread here may contain miss information from someone

    --------------

to achieve a look like the one in the pic I'd use something equivalent of 2mm very soft re-enactment leather but it is'nt cheap or easy to find.

  10. Hey Yau'l, :)

I may be needing a bit of assistance soon & wondered if any of my American buddies could help out?

The Mission is, should you be willing to accept it

You'd need to live in any of the states that don't pay import tax, from items moving from one state to another within the USA. B) & then be willing to go the the USPS building for me. ;)

Many thanks for any help guy's & in the word's of King Jaffee "I know you may be inconvenienced. I am prepared to compensate you. shall we say...."

It's basically prob's with an ebay dude who I guess dos'nt like to send thing's to us poor trash in the UK :( but dos'nt mention it before hand on his listing.

  11. In case anyone has'nt guessed from my avitar :P I really like Logan's Run it has unfortunately been forgotten by many movie fans with the advent of Star Wars. Never the less it is an absolute master piece which I consider to be one of the best Science Fiction films of all time. Superbly acting by Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Peter Ustinov combined with academy award winning special effects made this movie one of the most memorable I've ever seen. I think I've watched it about a hundred times.

I love logans Run & used to stay in every Saturday morning to watch the TV series, although it was'nt upto the film :) I'd really like to get one of the working DS gun's that are being produced now but their too much £££ for me :(

Anime & Hong kong cinema aswell as horror, sci-fi & fantasy genre's :D
