  1. I have one foot that is 9 and the other is 9.5 or just under (US sizes). Since everyone is saying they run a little large, do you guys think I should buy 9s and cross my fingers?
  2. Hey there folks. I'm on my build for a TK and was chatting with my best friend who owns a Rubies Vader costume. Does anyone know the kind of work required to make it 501st acceptable? How much money can he expect to spend on it roughly. To all trolls: yes I know there is a SLD forum but I do not want to join/register for it, nor do I expect my friend to. I would just like some simple info so I can go back to him and say you will need to do things like this, that and the other and you can expect to spend ___ amount of money to get it up to snuff.
  3. had to share this beauty - ---------- those two are ridiculous and street legal! the modded one i would not feel safe riding with. kudos on the paint job
  4. is it just me or does industrial strength velcro seem like a great idea? velcro allows for fine adjustments and you dont have to deal with glue settings times or missing your spot to glue. especially with tabs to deal with and what not. it seems more forgiving for such an important fit.
  5. so tonight I tried to start the snap system. After an hour of frustration, I realized the Vario Pliers come in one size and you have to buy an attachment to fit anything other than 10.something millimeters. FML. I wish TK-300 put a disclaimer about that. Not all of us know that snap pliers require special attachments. Oh well. I'll try to restart my snapping tomorrow. As I said on my local garrison board . . . . grunt, grrrr, pfffft . . . smoke a j
  6. I do think popping open a Motorola S9 or S10 and remounting it inside the helmet could be nice. Only issue with that is how and how hard is it to remount all the buttons that are on the Motorola headset get mounted. Maybe just velcro-ing could work.
  7. OK so after perusing whitearmour and a few other places, some things to consider: Helmet speakers: These are mounted in the helmet - used for plugging into an MP3 player Microphone: will have to find a way that this connects to the iPhone wirelessly while the iPhone speaker output goes separately to the speakers. I'm thinking disassembling a Motorola S9 or S10 wireless bluetooth communication headset and mounting it in the helmet will solve this issue. This would also allow someone to press the home button on the iPhone to activate Siri and tell it what to do. You can control Siri's voice volume through iPhone settings. Siri would then do what you say and you hear the confirmation. Amp: This is where I'm having some difficulty. How to switch between helmet speakers and the amp. I'm thinking that the setup should go to the amp and the headset. One can just turn the amp on or off when they want the general public to hear what they say. But how does the iPhone connect and play something to two different devices simultaneously? Can it do this? Since my motorcycle helmet is bluetooth, i will try playing music though it and also plugging in a speaker directly into the audio out jack of the phone. I'll follow up on this in a later reply to this thread. Summary I'm thinking that this might need to be two setups. Rig up a bluetooth setup for using my iPhone and then a second setup that is just a mic from the helmet going directly to the amp. I tell Siri to do something and then once it recognizes what I want and confirms, I switch on the amp. What Siri plays out loud in my helmet would be picked up by the amp's mic and thus making the illusion that it is something I said. Comments, issues, concerns, thoughts? EDIT 1 - i see the hovi tips play your voice. So what is the amp used for then? I think im missing something big here.
  8. EDIT 1 - My armor arrived today 4/27/12 - SO EXCITED! Hey troopers. I ordered my AP ANH kit trimmed with a finished helmet. ETA 3 months? Well in the meantime, I figure I should buy what I can and prep what I can. Read up on as many posts as I can, and watch some Dave's Garage on YouTube to get an understanding of how the armor gets glued, strapped and what not. (On a side note, Dave's Garage mentions a great idea for making the thermal detonator usable for storage.) I have mentioned in an electronics post that I am determined to get my iPhone fully functional for trooping. I might go to some iPhone forums for help locating software that might lend itself to making this happen with PTT, bluetooth, etc. That post is located at http://forum.whitear...showtopic=18998 where I will probably discuss what I find. Here's some pics and a list of what I have purchased and gotten in so far. Snap pliers, 1" black elastic, and snaps (TK300 says to use 15mm snaps, but local craft stores only sell 16mm), blue painters tape from Home Depot 8 clamp set from Home Depot (about $28 USD) and this lil beaut from TKittell The belt looks top quality and other nice adjectives. I think I will start my build by preparing the elastic straps with snaps. I just want to get my build started, so whatever I can do before the armor comes in, F it! Do It. PS, white industrial velcro, black strapping, hard-hat helmet liner (TrooperBay) and some E6000 on the way.
  9. secondary thought, I am running an iPhone 4S that is jailbroken. I can tell Siri to lots of extra stuff and with certain cydia siri extensions, Siri is always running, listening. You could say "Siri, play show me your identification" and 3 seconds later, it will. You dont have to press anything
  10. I'm sitting here brainstorming ways to make a cheap helmet system when it popped into my head. Could you use a wired amp plugged into your iPhone and just use a bluetooth mic? By that same thought process you could rig your helmet to play tunes, use Siri, shoot a text (LOL). Has anyone tried anything like this? On a side note, I ride a R6 motorcycle and use a bluetooth helmet. It makes the ride 10 X better. How do us men make things better . . . add bluetooth! PS the subtitles are for you troopers in the Spanish 501st
  11. So I am a few weeks out from my kit arrival and I'm in research mode. I've read many how-tos, watched Dave's Garage to get an idea of what it will take and well just read a lot. I purchased some white velcro and I understand where I will be using this most. I'm confused by the elastic and the straps really. Can someone please verify / comment on my following statements / quetions? 1) The black polypropelene straps (have no give) are used for connecting each piece of the arms, connecting the chest to the ab and cod, and the thigh to shin. 2) The black nylon elastic bands are used for connecting the arms to the top (under the chest and back plate) 3) Everything gets snaps- just follow TK-300's instructions on what gets a male and what gets a female snap.. 4) On an ANH build, what do I use to connect the front to the back of the costume? 5) What else are the elastic bands for?
