Hey thanks Dan! I never thought about watering down some paint. That helps a lot!
-
Come on guys! I am trying for another how to stickie for this forum. For me and other future TKCs. Blaster marks, slashes, scratches, dents, dirty, etc. Only one so far! Lets get some more!
-
No I am doing weathering for the TKC.
-
I am just wondering some of the methods you used for weathering. Effect - Process I am closing up on the trimming and will soon begin the weathering/painting process before I put everything together.

Is EIB slowly becoming obsolete?
DarthBrute replied to Darth Aloha's topic in FISD Expert Infantry Badge (EIB) Requirements
Everyone has a different level of commitment. When I first joined I just wanted to be approved. So I did some of the eib just to add detail but my TK was still just the baseline. Now I am doing the TKC and I am going straight for EIB. As I work on my costumes I get a little better. And thus I want to increase my own standards. Some also want to do the same. Some people just have a different level of commitment and I believe by increasing that baseline we may drive off new members. Keep the stepping stones. It helps people have a drive to improve overall. -
Well my opinion is if it looks the way it should be then its right.

No no strap. I always found it frustrating to wear.
-
Yes like a clamshell. Not a big trooper. Pretty average size. I like to use foam blocks to hold them in place. And just looking at options so my foam doesn't peel off anymore.
-
Anyone have that? Any tips?
-
Thank you!

Or the "exploding backpack" as my wife calls it. Alright I am looking and searching, studied the CRLs. What the heck is the difference between the Thermal Detonators? ANH, ESB and ROTJ? Reference pictures would be great.

Thanks for all the great replies! I have received an ata kit and I am pleased with the way it looks. I have started the trimming process and I will soon start my TKC build thread.
-
Awesome thank you!

I am trying to locate the trim for the TKC. Anyone know where to get it or what I can search for?
-
Thanks! I will remember that during my build.

I like this thread. I am selling my FX kit and getting an ATA. I decided I want to do a TKC as well. No one in my Garrison has it. Really good job on this! How did you do the blaster dents in the shoulder bells? I really like that idea and if you don't mind I may use that method on mine. Again awesome job!

I am just trying to get a feel for how it wears. Pinch points, tightness, mobility, etc. Thanks for the replies!

Alright quick history, when I first joined FISD I had already bought an FX kit from evil bay and after many troops and seeing better armors out there I have decided to replace it. Selling my armor to someone in my garrison. (They know the full history of it.) So I am looking at the different armors and I am seriously leaning towards ATA. Not just because of the price. Those of you that have the ATA what do you think of the wear and how it looks in person?

I just got back from deployment and saw that FISD is on Tapatalk! YAY! It works great for me!

Welcome to the boards, Magnus. The search function is a good idea but starting out it can be confusing on where to start depending on your question. Recently ( a few months ago) with the change of command things were restructured on the forums to make it easier for new guys to find what they need right off the bat. Sometimes being new and feeling a little overwhelmed at what you are getting into can make you miss a few things. Pretty much everyone here will discourage you from buying from ebay. That is a good thing. You will pay more in the long run. Believe me. I didn't know about the FISD or the 501st before I bought mine and I got mine from ebay. Now I will be selling it to a friend who knows all about it but still may want it. Anyway to help you out start out look here first:http://www.whitearmo...ead-this-first/ Read as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions. And don't forget to visit here: http://www.whitearmo...-introductions/ to introduce yourself to everyone here. Welcome to the FISD!

Talking to recruiters for Navy/Coast Guard/Air Force
DarthBrute replied to arbayer2's topic in Off Topic
I was a Navy Recruiter for 3 years. Most recruiters out there do want to help you. Watch out for the ones that say "Yes I can guarantee you bonus/job/etc." I always told my guys that I guaranteed nothing unless it was on their contract, aside from the normal military benefits. A lot of these tips are great but a recruiters job is to get you in and helping you during your path to boot camp. Classifiers (the guys at MEPS), their job is to find you a job. Most times the exact job you want isn't there. Mostly because it is unavailable. They will look at your medical record, ASVAB, and criminal history and plug some numbers in to the system, and out of the jobs available out will pop the jobs YOU qualify for. Most times recruits are happy with a job they pick out of those options. Sometimes not. I always tried to help my guys out by talking with the classifiers and such. I was pretty good friends with a couple of them. I wouldn't ask them for anything or special favors. Once my recruit and I got back to the office we would talk. I would tell them to do some more research on the job and if after 1-2 weeks they still didn't like it, I would submit paperwork requesting a job change once X job became available. I always told them that it was still based on whether they qualify for it or not. Most often then not my guys would leave for boot happy with what they have and grateful that I helped them. Two years after finishing my tour as a recruiter I am still happy about my time and happy I never broke a moral code just to fulfill a couple of spots in the Navy. And still two years later I am still in touch with most of my recruits and they still call me with questions concerning their career. Be happy with what you pick. But compromise. The Navy can't always match up with 100% that you want. I threw a girl out of my office because she plopped down into my chair with a high and mighty attitude, "I want a $5000 signing bonus, I want this job, and I want...." I tuned her out after that and once she stopped talking I told her she was in no position to demand anything from me. That when you come in my office, it is for a job interview. And she failed miserably. My exact words were, "The Navy has never needed nor will it ever need anyone so desperately someone with your attitude. Now get out of my office." Think about goals you want the military to help you accomplish. Bigger goals not just having a pay check. Can you deal with something you will be ok to do for a few years if it still puts you on the path to your goals? I don't know about other services but in the Navy you can cross-rate to another job after 24 months and completing requirements for those jobs. So even of you aren't completely happy with what you do there are still options. Take the good with the bad, every job has that. Good luck! -
Aker amp adaptor wire with throat mic question
DarthBrute replied to Angeal's topic in Electronics for Helmets / Blasters
Yea I have been looking into this as well. I just get to much feedback when it comes to using the mic I got with the aker amp. I end up turning it down then no one can hear what I am saying. -

Yea I searched for it on tapatalk and didn't see it. I know the board has a mobile version, and I use it. The mobile version works but tapatalk functionality would be awesome.
