  1. Not at all, no. At least none that I've seen so far. I'm still cutting and assembling, though.
  2. I've been searching these forums, but haven't come up with a clear answer as to what ESB ears are painted with. I assume they're painted by hand same as the ANH with the same colors. The question I have is this; If the ESB tears and traps are decals, and the decals are a slight more blue than ANH hand painted, would the ears be a different color too? I'm looking for a Testor's color match as close as I can get to TK-4510's ESB decals from TrooperBay. Has anyone else found a match?
  3. I was surprised how well it cut. This was my first foray into the world of dremel cutting. Apparently patience pays off. Still not sure about the line for the forehead, though. Thoughts?
  4. Cut line for the lobotomy. Anyone have thoughts on the cut line? Does it look straight?
  5. So I passed both of my Microsoft tests today. New addition to the alphabet soup behind my name. Here are the detail pictures I promised of the interior of the helmet. I haven't started cutting, yet. Still measuring, double measuring, checking my sources, re-measuring. . . Thinking about how I measured, etc. Detail of the interior of the helmet. The coating added a lot of extra rigidity and a nice finished look. Maintained the Maker's Mark.
  6. I used Scotch brand blue painters tape. The paint ends up being a matte black with a slight texture. I will be out of town tonight, but will try to get a better picture of the end result once I return home tomorrow. Hopefully you'll be able to see what I'm talking about then.
  7. First night of work. Some may call me over cautious, however I like to say I am simply prepared. Not only did I tape the outside of the helmet to prevent overspray from the interior paint, but I also left the plastic sheeting on. Two layers of protection is better than one, right? I also covered the ATA logo on the inside of the helmet. It may seem silly but I wanted to maintain the source of the helmet. Interior covered with the first coat. Now to let it dry and prepare to begin cutting.
  8. It's been a long road, but I am officially out of the 200's. I'm halfway to my final goal and starting my helmet build!
  9. Awesome. Will do. I can't wait to get started on this tonight. It's a great distraction after studying for a pair of Microsoft tests this Friday. Busy week!
  10. Where can I find TK-4510's tutorial?
  11. Big thanks to Terrell for his amazing work in his craft. I am thoroughly satisfied with not only the purchase process but also the product. Now, here's a couple questions before I dig in too far. I've read a few posts where folks have sprayed the interior of their helmets with things from truck bed liner to plasticote, I would imagine this would be easier if you did it at the start instead of after assembly, however any one have suggestions on product/whether this is a good idea? I've read several of the threads on this, namely Pandatroopers break down of it, and feel pretty good going into this, but honestly I'm still a bit terrified to screw this up. Any last minute suggestions before I start marking and cutting? Wish me luck!
  12. I've looked at the iComm/Aker combo which looks awesome. However, is there any way to have the actual sound coming from the helmet? i.e. Speaker mounted behind the aerator tips/vocoder and not from the chest mounted Aker amp?
  13. Sadly I had no idea what LARPing was until I read your post and subsequently 'googled' it. That sounds awesome, though living in south west Ga there are absolutely no groups around here. I'm finding that the 501st involvement down here is lacking, too. I think once I have my kit complete I'm going to actively attempt to turn younglings to the dark side, er, I mean. . . 'recruit'.
  14. Grats Katie! That's awesome! I'm fighting the same thing, what was your plan of attack to focus on your middle? Can't wait to see the new gear w/o shims! I'm holding off on starting mine for the same reason, I don't want to look like a tubby-trooper. Almost sub 200, then I'll measure again and see where I'm at.
  15. Good to know. I didn't realize it impacted my immune system. I read the thread up to current prior to posting and used your formula to calculate my metabolic rate. Lots of great information here. Thanks for supporting us!
  16. I found the IP. Boards app recently, which allows for really easy navigation of these forums and my local garrisons with no problems. Makes keeping up with recent posts and PMs much easier on the go. Love the icons, btw. Nicely done!
  17. Hello everyone. Browsing the forums I found this thread and wanted to add my name to this campaign. While I don't actually have armor, yet, I am planning to order the helmet, then the armor. When I finally decided to be serious about this my weight was out of hand and decided it needed to be resolved before I went any further. It is wonderful to see that this community can come together and support each other through this challenge. Weight loss is something I personally have struggled with since I left the army in 2003. I just had my 30th birthday and took a hard look at myself. I can do better. I deserve it, and so do my wife and child. Starting weight: 230 Current weight: 213 Goal weight: 170 Method for attaining: cut caloric intake to 1800/ day. I use the LooseIt app on my iPhone to monitor the amount I am taking in. I also have begin excercising with the Your Shape for the Xbox Kinect. Feels great to wake up in the morning and start the day off with a good sweat. I picked my goal weight as that puts me into the 'normal' range of BMI. I also want to loose weight so my daughter *3 years old* can be proud of her dad. So. There it is. I am publicly stating my commitment to this. Good luck to everyone else who is in this fight as well. We can do it as a team!
  18. New builder here, where do you find sheets of material to use as scrap? I assume this will glue up to an ABS lid with no problems? I am starting the build on my first helmet, but have worn hard hats before and know how comfortable they are, especially in south Georgia. I imagine it gets hot in a TK bucket, so anything to allow for air circulation around my head is going to be a god-send.
  19. You know, I've found people on this forum to be really kind. Not to sound cheesy and such, but seriously. Folks have given me the warmest reception. Truley amazing.
  20. You all are such a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for the replies. I'm interested to see what everyone else has to say. Sorry again for posting this in the wrong location.
  21. Looking at the requirements here: http://www.whitearmor.net/home/crl-overview/crl-esb.html Question: Should we specify that hero detils (6 teeth/smoke lenses) can't be mixed with stunt (8 teeth/green lenses)? I just don't want to be behind the Eight Ball if this is set as a standard for Centurion requirements.
  22. I am completely embarrased. I am posting this from my iPhone and just realized I dropped this in the wrong forum. Should have gone in the commisary area. I'll repose there. Edit: It would appear I am not able to post in the commisary area. Will the moderators please move this thread to the appropriate location? Thanks, and sorry!
  23. I am trying to decide if I should build a hero or stunt ESB helmet. On reviewing the Requirements for Centurion status I found that the difference between hero and stunt are 6 teeth with flat smoke lenses and 8 teeth with green lenses. I figure i need to k ow what i can and cant get before I make plans to cut teeth and such. Even though this is my first build, I figure if I'm going to do something, better do it right, right? So, I understand this flat smoke lense material is scarce in the states. I've looked over the forums but haven't seen anyone with this build or smoke lenses available. Anyone have suggestions?
