Yes, please read the links Locitus provided before you do anything else. All you will ever need for your first build is right here in this site, not eBay. I only stress this because many of us made the mistake of getting something off eBay only to spend more time, effort and money on fixing it up than just getting one from one of our vendors.

Awesome pics. Yeah, the TK wasn't the only costume that was sloppily thrown together for these displays. 

We have the same thrown-together Imperial Officer exhibit to thank for everybody originally thinking open collars & chalk holders appeared in a Star Wars movie. 

Just like this exhibit led people to believe that rivets were OK to secure shoulder bridges. lol.

I have found that Model master tends to be slightly thinner than the regular square bottles that sell for $1.50. Just get the cheap one.

 

I still airbrush mine, fewer issues.

I'd go with airbrushing, if you have the means. Much easier.

This information is really very interesting! The charts (accurate or not) really help paint a picture of our white plastic history. Thanks for putting that together. 

 

I don't have much of an opinion to share on the recasting comments, but it's still an amusing fact to remember that the ROTJ screen-used suits were recast from the left-over, beat-up suits from ANH.   

This was before any fan (that I know of) had opportunity to do so, and there is huge differences between the two suits.
