Hello, Mike, and welcome to the FISD. Lots of great people & info here, so we hope you enjoy yourself.

You can find E6000 at Wal-Mart or any hobby store. I've used it on both sets of armor I own and have never had one bit of trouble in all kinds of weather, from sleet/snow in 40 degree weather to parades at 90 degrees. The only downside is that E6000 takes a good 24 hours to fully cure, so it's not good for rush jobs.

thanks, most likely i will buy the pliers....where did you get your whole set-up???? Lowe's/home Depot?????
Picked up everything at JoAnne's fabric store and also at Hobby Lobby. I think you can also find most if not all of it at Wal-Mart, as well.

Yep, Foggy has the right idea: read up on the different kits available as each has varying degrees of difficulty.
Just as a quick reference, FX and RT kits are likely the easiest to put together as they come trimmed, whereas pretty much the rest require trimming before assembly can begin. There are other things to consider, as well, such as how you want to assemble the kit - do you want to use velcro like the instructions say, or go with snaps or some other method? That decision affects how easy it could be to assemble a kit, too.
Having said that, the actual assembly is not very difficult if you do some research and figure out how you want to go about it.

I don't know that there is any difference between them aside from the name. The brands I have bought have all said heavy-duty but they're likely the same as industrial. I did pick up a pair of heavy-duty snap pliers and they do make afixing snaps quite easy, but I don't believe they are necessary. I also have a "manual" snap tool kit that works just as well and was much cheaper. It's just more labor intensive than using the pliers as it requires a hammer.

Yeah, it depends. I'm 6'0" and 185lbs or so and actually had to cut away material on my TE2 - 1/2" per side IIRC.
At 6'3" and 190lbs I have to shim the sides of my AP like Smitty mentioned, but not by much - and not nearly as much as with my FX armor, strangely enough. I was actually surprised at how well the AP fit in most places.
-
I know you've been working on this for quite a while - congrats! Now you can join me in putting together a sandy for MEPD deployed standards.
-
Congratulations on making Elite, Kevin! We'll see how long that Hero bucket stays after a few troops. Seriously, though, it's nice to see a non-stunt ANH configuration.
-
Looking very good, Thayne. The TE2 bucket goes quite nicely with the armor. Just as a side question, how have you attached the TD cannister to your belt? Oh, and I noticed that you switched colors for chestplate/backplate straps from black to white, but because they are sitting higher in the outdoor pics than in the indoor pics you can still see them against your suit. Not a criticism at all, just an observation. To keep mine from doing the same, I actually moved the attachment points for my straps up so that they run just below my arms. This still keeps the plates tight against the body but now you can't see the elastic.
Nice work!

Welcome to the FISD, Wendy! You're official now.
-
Looking pretty sharp there. I agree with you about the AP forearms - I'll be ordering either FX or RT parts to go with my AP suit. The shoulders look a little small on me, as well, but as my AP will be used as a Sandy they'll mostly be covered by the paldron and ammo pack so you won't be able to tell as much. Nice work!
-
Looks nice, although there does appear to be a bit of a color mismatch between the FX parts and the rest of the armor (AP has bluish tinge). Can the FX parts be painted, or is that not a good idea?
Usually it's not a good idea to paint ABS, although you can certainly attempt it. Color matching with white paint on white ABS would seem to be pretty difficult to me, but then I've never tried it. I wear an AP helmet with my FX suit, and only under certain lighting conditions can you tell the subtle color difference. In the sun or in bright indoor light it all looks white.
-
Glad to see you, Andy. We're all brothers (& sisters) in white here. Hope you enjoy doing some research and figuring out which is the best suit for you, as that will make your purchase, assembly & wearing that much more enjoyable.

Nice to see you at the FISD, Chad. Lots of reading to do - I all but guarantee you won't be bored.

Myself and a number of my fellow 70th Explorers participated in the 11th annual Art Tougeau parade in Lawrence, KS (home of the '08 NCAA Men's Basketball champions & Orange Bowl winners! Rawk Chawk!) Art Togeau was founded in 1997 as a way to express artistic expression by designing all kinds of crazy & cool-looking vehicles. There were quite a wide variety of colorful & creative entries this year, but I have to say that the 70th's entry was very cool - our very own motorized speeder bike:
This sweet ride was designed and built by members of our garrison, and the TB riding it is none other than our very own Legion Membership Officer! :bikerscout:

That looked like loads of fun to do! I'm glad you guys put those Jedi in their place. Oh, and Mr. Krajewski was wise to give up his place for Vader. Thanks for posting these up here!
-
Good to see you at the FISD, Dan. Good luck on finishing your TI, and looking forward to hearing your TK progress.
-
Nice to have a fellow trooper back in the ranks.
-
Congratulations Alain! Now I won't be the only tall trooper squeezing into AP armor, although mine will soon be "dirtied up" for service on Tatooine. Oh, and the best of luck with your journey to Lancer status..I've heard that makes gaining Elite status look like a walk in the park.

For me it's the interaction with the kids (and kids-at-heart) & the knowledge that we as an organization are doing what we can to support many worthwhile charities, funds, events, etc. through our general love of Star Wars.
This goes beyond the enjoyment of trooping for trooping's sake. For instance while I was participating in a local walk for Autism awareness I picked up a "shadow" of sorts. He was about eight or nine and had been living with Autism for a good portion of those years. For almost the entire mile he walked, ran, and otherwise excitedly dashed about me. His parents said that he loved Star Wars and that stormtroopers were his favorite characters. That little bit made the entire event worth it to me, knowing that I was able to provide that kind of enjoyment to a young boy just by putting on a costume.
-
Nice job, Bobby, and congratulations.
To be honest, I can't imagine wearing my TK any other way now. I've received tons of compliments on my suit at the last couple of troops. Still doesn't keep me from tinkering on it, though.
-
Congrats, Noel, and to you too, Alex!
It's wonderful to see people with whom you've shared their costuming journeys finally reach their goals. Awesome news - now get out there and do some troopin' for Vader's Fist!

The one issue I have with the MR CE helmet is the look of the frown. It appears smaller and narrower than most other helmets and for some reason I don't like it as much. That's just a personal observation, though - in all other respects a modded MR CE looks very nice. Personally I like AP & TE2 the best (own both), and for down-and-out durability the AP comes out on top for me.

Nice to see you at the FISD, Jeff.
Hello - non-trooping, as yet

Good to see you at the FISD, Michael. This place is a great resource whether you troop or not.
