  1. Well, I'm just getting to the point where I'm finishing up my AP helmet. Polishing and decals and tidying to go. If anyone can see anything that needs changing or improving I'd appreciate the input! I'm not copying a specific helmet or anything, just trying to get it together okay shape! I couldn't get the ears any closer to the sides after repeated attempts... Finally I gave up. I didn't end up using the pre marked drill holes because once I had angled the faceplate the way I wanted it the holes seemed to be off. It looks a bit like a swiss cheese inside! I thought I'd be clever and get a carpentry contour gauge to measure the ears for cutting, but that didn't work either... I used the fimo eye mounting method I found on here and that worked great though! Let me know what you guys think though...
  2. Awesome! The Jedi mind trick thing really works!! Now to get the wife's build finished!
  3. Oops couldn't fit them all in the first post...
  4. Finally, I'm all finished... (hopefully!). I just got my TK number about a week ago, so here goes for the next level! I hope these pics are clear enough to pick out all the necessary details!
  5. Pandatrooper, Thanks for posting that! I enjoyed it! I get a kick out of seeing all the old behind the scenes footage! It would be nice if all the old documentaries and specials were easier to come by!
  6. I think it looks great! Did you paint the inside before or after you trimmed out the eyes etc? I'm debating that one... Hopefully I'll be working on a hero TM too soon. Just finishing up an AP at the moment, but I'll be watching this space carefully!
  7. Cool! Fimo! I never thought of that stuff... I was just looking for the exact same solution for my AP helmet after having fought for hours putting bubble lenses in my MRCE. I just ordered some Fimo off Amazon! They have all sorts of colors so it's not hard to find black if that's what you need.
  8. Well, my armor arrived about two weeks ago, and I've been slogging my way through since. Thanks to all the tutorials on here this is what I've managed to accomplish so far. I couldn't have gotten this far without these boards and all the help. I have no idea what I'm doing! Anyway, so far so good. The thighs are causing some problems with alignment right now, but I'm getting pretty good bending things the way I want after the forearm practice! Here's a few shots of the shrapnel so far...
  9. Here's something I stumbled across through a friend of a friend. I couldn't resist when I saw what this guy had designed and had to order a few right away! What do you guys think...? http://www.imagekind.com/GalleryProfile.aspx?GID=0af68378-f664-4704-96f0-c2e17b729b35&P=1
  10. Oh okay... Well I guess that solves that problem! I knew something was off there! So I guess it doesn't really matter then which side is "up"! Cool thanks for the help... back to work on my nemesis now... ... ...
  11. Hi all, This might seem like a stupid question to some, but I'm having trouble figuring out which of the forearms of my AP kit is left and which is right. I mean the section with the indentations along the length of it. One of the sides seems slightly flatter than the other. I'm going to have to velcro the outside seam, so I obviously need to get the fixed seam on the correct side. I've been looking at lots of reference pics and screen shots, but am still finding it hard to tell which side is "up"! If anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it! One less aggravation with this build would make my day! Thanks!
  12. Thanks for the advice. If I need to trim I'll start there once the glueing is all done. I'll see how it goes. It only appeared like it might be necessary after eyeballing the suit. Maybe it'll all work out okay. I thought the tops of the shins might knock too much into the bottoms of the thighs- Hopefully I'll be alright though. Thanks again!
  13. Hi all, I'm planning ahead a bit here, but I've been reading through all the threads I can find on AP build tutorials etc in preparation. My kit is all here and I'm planning where to start... I have noticed though that the shins and or thighs will need to be shortened to match the length of my legs a bit. On the shins for instance, do people typically trim the excess off the bottom once they're glued? I'm 5'7'' so not a whole lot will have to go. Just wondering how to plan to tackle this when I get there so I don't accidentally make bad cuts to begin with. Thanks for the help!
  14. Just got mine too in super fast time, and they're excellent!
  15. I'm about to begin building my AP armor, and it's the first kit I've owned. From what I can gather, the helmet doesn't require painting at all... is that right? I've noticed a few people have painted theirs and that's why I ask. Also, I'm probably going for ANH rather than ESB, but I think I'll start off with decals on the helmet instead of painting the tubestripes etc in case I change my mind. Are the decals that come with the helmet acceptable for this? Thanks for any pointers!
  16. You definitely shouldn't get one then...
  17. The MR CE is a fun helmet to mod. It's good practice and it's kind of fun to see a symmetrical helmet idealized this way in my opinion. I have an AP to fix up standard ANH stunt style too, so best of both worlds!
  18. Thanks for the help and encouragement! I'm still on the fence about the whole thing... I'm a little less than confident about my skills in doing a big mod, (mostly the painting), but not enough to stop me from learning! I had always liked the Hero look and I think this helmet lends itself well to an albeit symmetrical version of that. I do plan on doing the ears... (I hadn't thought of replacing them altogether though. Where should I get replacements?) I'm not sure where to get the bubble lenses I would need. I had considered just heating up some flat lenses as best I could and trying to maybe mould them a bit. I don't know. I'll definitely fill the seam! And work on pimping out the inside too! If it goes well I'll post some pics. I may just give up and make a stunt mod with the brow etc though... It's growing on me! And raising the brow doesn't seem to be as difficult as I first thought it might be. I have an as yet unfinished AP too though for the stunt look! Hopefully I won't mess that one up!
  19. Hi! I'm looking for some advice. I'll shortly be getting my AP armor, but I already have a MRCE helmet that I was planning to modify. I've noticed that just about everyone here seems to modify the helmet to look more like an ANH Stunt helmet. I like the idealized look of the MR CE with the symmetry etc, and since the brow is already low I thought it might be easier just to modify into a Hero helmet. If I wanted to do this Hero mod I would consider bubble eye lenses, reducing the ears, and that's about it. Am I missing something? Is it just personal taste that leads most people to make it resemble a stunt helmet. I'd rather not have to alter the brow. The ears look tricky enough! Has anyone modded this to a Hero style? Thanks!
