1. Thanks Joeseph, that's pretty much what I needed to confirm. The consistency of my E6000 certainly isn't runny, in fact it's pretty thick and requires a fair bit of effort to squeeze it out.
I'm surprised with it being an unopened tube as although I've had it for some time, the seal was unbroken. Thought it would have had a longer shelf life before it went off. I think I read somewhere there was fake E6000 being sold, or did I dream that?
Looks like I buy some new E6000.
2. Need some advice on E6000, about how it should handle.
I'm using this for the first time and need to know whether my stock is good or needs to go in the bin.
Opened up the new tube (so you have to pierce the metal tip, to get going) and find that it's quite thick and seems to cure quickly, even whilst you are spreading it. Basically it doesn't flow out of the tube very well- you need to squeeze pretty hard to get it out.
So the question- is this how E6000 is, or has it been in storage too long and has gone off (it was a new tube which hadn't been opened)? Just need to know before I go ahead and order more.
3. I'm currently trying to get good adjustment between front and back plates with the shoulder straps. I've looked around and notice some builders do cut the shoulder straps at the back, in order to shorten them. Before I go ahead, just need to check that this is acceptable (you are essentially loosing the wider end rib at the back of the strap).
4. Yeah- I've had to make several repairs to the cracks in the very thin plastic- there's more yellowing around where I've made repairs. You only have to look at this thing and a crack appears! No way could you troop in it.
5. OK, I know yellowing of plastic has cropped up before, but I was disappointed to find my RS Props bucket yellowing quite badly recently. I've not had it long and it's been out of sunlight etc., so I was surprised to see ot turning so badly, so soon. I'm assuming it was one of the ones made from ABS, but even so I'm surprised to see it like this. Anyone had a similar problem with their RS bucket, and what are my options (painting over will destroy the hand painted details)?
6. I've recently noticed that the creases between the tubes and cheeks of my SDS hero have started to yellow. Thing is, the helmet spends the majority of it's time in a dark room away from any light or fumes. The rest of the helmet seems fine, it's just these areas.
7. Thanks for your comments, guys. Also thanks to Alan for the link. There was me thinking that I was the only one with this 'little' problem. I think it comes from seeing loads of images of troopers with perfect fitting armour! One day I might be able to get in to that Leia bikini (only kidding- I REALLY don't have one of those).
8. Thank's for that, great photo showing exactly the problem I've got. That's exactly what my gap looks like, but without the white insert. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't have the perfect frame to be a TK. The reason this came about was when I measured myself for one of Rob's belts, I found I needed one 61 inches long! Need to hit the gym I think.
9. I did a search round the site and couldn't really get an answer to my problem. I've put on a bit of weight recently in my old age, and I'm developing quite a gut. I do intend to work it off, but it's created a problem when wearing my SDS armour- which had been on a mannequin for some time and hadn't been tried on recently. My extra girth causes a real big gap with the ab section meaning the back and front sections have no chance of meeting up. This obviously causes alot of black undersuit to show down the sides. What do most troopers in my situation do? Is it acceptable to walk around with the gap (and black) showing and just ignore it, or do people add an extra weight plate in between, in order to try and hide the fact the front and back ab sections don't meet up? I'd be interested to know what other members do.
10. If these neck seals aren't an option at the moment, can anyone tell who makes good ones that are currently available?
11. I've looked at Stukatrooper's tutorial many times, and that's exactly what scares me about starting this project!!! Keeping it small at the moment with a lousy Ebay TIE helmet. Totally ripped it apart and rebuilt it. Pretty pleased so far, so the skills are definately improving. Thanks for that, Paul. Several weeks on and we still can't get around safely- that's global warming for you. Will be in touch as soon as this crazy weather goes back to normal. Ferg
12. Thanks for the comments. I'm VERY pleased with my new toy but will definately need some advice from you guys. Paul has very kindly offered to help out with problems, but this is certainly no 'shake and bake' job. This will need some careful thought- I think a couple of other little projects before I have the confidence to start cutting plastic on this one. Don't worry though, as soon as the fun begins, I will be calling on all TKs out there. BTW, I like to think measure once, then again, then again, then again and then cut- does that work for anyone else!!! Ferg
13. Hi, I noticed in another thread that a fellow trooper had received his armour from Paul, last month. Paul must have been busy as he also did a set for me and hand delivered it! Turns out he lives just up the road from me, so he very kindly offered to deliver it on Xmas Eve, despite the horrendous winter weather (very nice Chrissie present to myself ). He also brought along some of his own build ups including a beautiful set of his (very) flexible armour. The standard TM stuff is stunning, but I need to practice my skills before starting it, so it will be some time before I get the Dremel fired up- don't want to make any mistakes with this beauty. Everything is boxed up at the moment, but here's a couple of helmet piccies to show how clean and shiney the pulls are (sorry about the quality). Enjoy. Ferg
