  1. Last Saturday I was part of the 70th Explorer Garrison that trooped at the Great Overland Stage Railroad Festival in Topeka, KS. They have a SW exhibit (most of the items donated by the 70th Explorers) and we also had Darryl Woods who is a licensed Lucasfilm artist doing caricatures for free. Yes, the R2D2 moved, beeped, squacked and made the kids go nuts.

Lots of fun, but it was VERY VERY HOT! Even indoors because once the temp reached 97 outside, everyone came inside and it overwhelmed the poor A/C system.

Three of the people trooping are TKs from the FISD here on the boards, although one had to get out of armor due to discomfort. I premiered my new ISB uniform which I'm also going to post down in the non-TK costume forums since I finally got pictures from those in attendance.

    Enjoy!

  2. Okay, sorry about the links not working. I'm going to try and get Charlie to post them here, or send them to me in an email so I can post them. I'm having issues downloading off facebook to my computer, so I'll see what I can do.

I apologize, I usually bring my own camera to events, but I ran out the door running late for this one, and forgot it on my bed, sitting next to where my bag had been.

I'll try and get them posted ASAP tonight.

    thanks for everyone's patience.

  3. Hey guys, I finished my second officer's tunic. Yeah, I know, I need to work out harder so I can get my TK, TX and TIE done (but I also need the funds), but I promise as soon as I will look decent in the armor and I have the funds, I'm all over it.

I didn't have my camera at the event because I forgot it at home so I'm going to post a link to some of the pictures on facebook. Sorry about that. Hopefully Charlie Brown will be posting some here on the Tour of Duty Topic.

Anyway, here's my ISB Imperial Officer (and yes, I know the wings aren't canon, but I'm a pilot in another life ;) )

Which Button do I push??? or Vader's lenses are all fogged up.

  4. As a photographer/handler for my garrison, I haven't found any problem with posting the pictures on Flickr or Photobucket, or even Facebook as long as the people aren't tagged there hasn't been a problem.

  5. Jeremy, I did photography for my local garrison for 5 months before I submitted my costume for approval (still waiting btw due to my GML selling his house and moving...) but handlers and photographers are ALWAYS welcome at troops.

Good luck and welcome to one of the best forums on the internet!

  6. Hey guys, thought I'd report in. I've lost another 15 lbs in the past 6 weeks. I lost some ground in July over my birthday because I didn't eat well, and I didn't exercise like I'd been doing. The great news is I'm having to go clothes shopping to get some that fit. The bad news is, I had to take in my officer's tunic (again!)because it was starting to look like a hand-me-down that I needed to grow into.

My sister just ordered the P90X so she can work out. I don't know much about it, but I'm going to watch her progress (or lack thereof) on it. She's already really fit (plays 2-3 hours of tennis a day and does Jillian Michaels workout) but can't seem to get the tight flat stomach she had in her 20s. I keep telling her that reaching her late 30s and having 3 children may make it more difficult to gain it back, but she is determined. I hope this works.

I'll keep you updated, and now that summer is coming to a close, don't let yourselves be convinced you can't workout in the winter. Start thinking now of how to take your outdoors workout indoors.

  7. I used the McCalls Pattern 4745 and modified it to match the requirements for the officer's tunic. If you are interested go the Imperial Officer's boards and there are a lot of discussions on how to use it. I didn't follow their guidelines completely because they made it too complicated, and I like to try and keep things as simple as possible.

In fact, I just finished my Imperial Security Bureau tunic for hot weather trooping and will be wearing it two weekends from now for a troop. Total cost for the two uniforms...$125.00. Still waiting on my number, but haven't been rejected yet either.

  8. I see you got the collar right, that's basically what's holding mine up.

The collar was the most difficult part. If you're using the McCall's pattern I can help you fit it to your neck, and put in the "modesty tab." Just PM me and give me your contact info.

Billhag, thank you for the compliment. It means a lot coming from someone with your costuming skills. I've been told that my GML will be getting back to me by this weekend...on pins and needles, possible new job, now possible full-fledged 501st member. :icon_beg:

  9. Okay, I've submitted an official uniform so I can become a 501st member. I thought I'd post some pictures of me in my uniform don't laugh, I'm still losing weight, and have to keep taking the stupid thing in.

All in pieces. Where's the sewing machine?

Whew! The basic jacket is finished...just the sleeves, bottom of the tunic, hems, and fastenings to go!

    DSCN2049.jpg

Sleeves are on, collar is on, facing is done...just have to attach the bottom of the tunic.

It's done! But I've lost weight, and now it's too big! Have to take it in. Sammy (the cat) seems to agree.

Yea! First troop in my uniform (and yes I made the cap myself also.) Now I just need to get it approved...

  10. Sean, it sounds like you are doing this in a sensible and proper manner. Welcome to the Fit Club! We're here for each other and support each other doing this difficult thing called getting in shape and losing weight. Keep reporting on your progress, and good luck with your Grand Admiral.

  11. Adam,

You might want to figure out how many calories you need to stay healthy and then figure out how many to reduce to lose weight. There is a previous post here in the fit club outlining how to do that and get results.

And to everyone here...keep up the good work!

  12. Okay. So, after awhile of knowing I'm not happy with my weight, the thing that motivated me to get to a gym was wanting to look good in my armor. So, today I joined a gym and started working out. I rode a bike for 6 miles in 30 minutes and did 15 minutes on treadmill at a very fast walk.

So, starting today, 7/14/10 I'm 5'11" and weigh 215lbs. My target is 180lbs. I intend to go 4 days a week and kind of have to show up because my boss is now my workout partner. I'm not changing what I eat, however I am cutting back on the portions.

Welcome to the fit club! As mentioned earlier, check out the previous posts for hints, and suggestions. See what others are doing, and above all, HAVE FUN!

  13. I've been a Star Wars fan since that firsts Star Destroyer moved across the screen in 1977. I had the bed sheets (still do as a matter of fact); action figures; the Movie/Story LP (not the soundtrack, the actual dialog one) and I still wait for the pause in the music to turn over the record right after they say, "We're opening the magnetic field."; suppressed my Star Wars geekiness during college and graduate school, and now embrace it.

As for dressing up, it is all about the people I'm with, the kids faces and even the adults faces. I've met a great group of people through this organization, and I only wish I had found it earlier. Overall, I think these pictures sum it up nicely:

I want to be just like you.

It is a way to volunteer and serve my community and have fun doing it. Like tkresonva said, I have opportunities open that I wouldn't have otherwise, and get to do things I never thought I would.
