burgan323 Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I need help finding armor. I'm listing below what I've gathered that I want out of it. I would like to get a hold of either a kit or an assembled ANH TK armor that I can weather into Sandtrooper armor. I would like it to be acceptable to the 501st. I'm not sure if I want ABS or HIPS for the kind of plastic, but I would like to do mild trooping in the armor. Since I would be converting to TD armor, it might be better that I get a non assembled kit so that I can sand and weather myself. I'm not sure what it'll cost me for the kit + the conversion, but any ball park figures would help. Currently, I don't have a garage area to do the painting in, but that may change. Do you guys think it would be better for me to get a pretrimmed armor? I would rather have it trimmed by an experienced person, than screw something up when I'm doing it. I imagine that there is a kit that would probably fit my build almost perfectly (5'9" and 160lbs), but I could be wrong. I saw the AP sandtrooper armor somebody put on here a couple days ago and it was gone like that. Any tip you guy could give me would be great. Also, links are good too. Thanks! Quote
TK-7980 Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Any kit will fit you perfectly. Some kits come pretrimmed and others come slightly trimmed. I suggest getting an untrimmed set so you can get familiar with the material if you're going to be assembling a helmet. I'm also pretty sure you can pay the vendor a bit extra and have them trim it for you. Quote
RogueTrooper[TK] Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 Hey Braxton, Armor kits are kind of like airplane and model kits, there are different levels and you first need to determine what level you feel comfortable with. First of all there is nothing wrong with getting armor that has already been put together by someone else. But, the one drawback is that they probably built it to their standards and not exactly to fit you. That is why most people get the kits and tailor them to their body style. Since you do not have an area that you can really do painting in, you would probably be better off to get a kit that is made out of ABS. AP armor (Authenticprops),TM (Troopmaster) are some of the best made ABS armor in the range that will fit your body style. There is a new armor out there called AM (Armor Master) that is the next generation of FX armor and is getting to be quite popular. Price range on good armor starts around $500 and goes on up. Here is a suggestion that I think is a "happy medium", since you are not confident in your abilities to put together a kit. Since your are in Cookeville, Tn., Your local Garrison is Midsouth Garrison.http://www.midsouthgarrison.com/ My suggestion would be to contact them, sign up, tell them a little bit about yourself and ask them if there is anybody that could help you with your build along the way. I would look at it this way, half the fun is putting the armor together and the other half is wearing it. Not only do you have the people in the Midsouth Garrison helping, but you have the vast knowledge of the people in the FISD available to answer any questions and assist you through you build. Each one of the armor makers that I mentioned are on the FISD. Quote
burgan323 Posted February 4, 2010 Author Report Posted February 4, 2010 RogueTrooper- I have contacted my local garrison and hope to get help from them soon. I do like build things so starting from untrimmed is probably going to be my best bet. Thanks for the help. Quote
