StormTrooper Armor and how to get started

Hey all Im new here and I'm so very lost and bit overwhelmed.  I want to get some stormtrooper gear piece by piece because I cannot afford to drop 1500 dollars right now.  Eventually I'd love to join the 501st.  I'm sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong area.  Can someone please point me in the right direction.
