T385's Stunt Build [*FX] [*ATA] Lid

Hi all,

This thread serves as a bit of an introductory thread and a build thread. I was 'that guy' that went ahead and bought an armour kit from eBay (The Horror!) but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the purchase. Is it recast? Yep. But was it cheap and was it delivered within a fortnight? Yep and Yep! Would I buy again from eBay? No, I'd go with ATA that's for sure. I just couldn't bear the waiting this time round, I wanted something for Halloween so I went with the eBay FX and I figured if I ballsed it up, it wouldn't be too bad.

Anyway, I started on the MASSIVE helmet (partly because my E6000 hadn't arrived and I was itching to start something) and I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with the result even if the helmet is a crappy shape and very big.

Anyway... I wasn't too happy with the FX lid so I went ahead and ordered an ATA helmet and decided that I'd have a go at handpainting all the details using the proper Humbrol colours. This turned out amazingly and the ATA kit is amazing....

The kit is surprisingly easy to work with...a bit of a jump between the previous image and the next one....

All the major parts painted and fitted. The ears were a pain in the EARS (< anagram) as were the tube stripes. I ended up making a card template as a guide and pretty much eyeballing it. It's not perfect but it's good enough for me (I still need to sort out the right ear)....

Sprayed the inside black and velcroed a Hard Hat liner in there. Job done! (almost!)

Some of the black came off as I was working with finishing off the helmet but it's no problem really. Tube stripes are also a little thick, but there's no chance that I'm redoing them!

Any and all feedback would be much appreciated. As for the armour, I'm up to the strapping stage and I'm hoping to get it all finished in the next couple of weeks....we'll see!

Nice work on the construction. Ears can be tough and you did a good job! I would tighten up that left side ear (as you are looing at the helmet) and draw it in closer to the helmet. As for the paint details, I am thinking that the tube stripes might be a little big. They seem to be positioned the correct distance from the face, they just seem a bit big. And the vocoder between the mice tips needs to look like black tubes pressed closely together. Yours looks like a black shape. Here is an example of what I mean.--------------Also take a look at the costume photo reference page on this sight.http://www.whitearmor.net/forum/gallery/album/46-helmet-details/
