  1. If I could have one wish for armor makers, it would be to take enough time to mark the arms and legs as to which part it is right or left. Arguing for 20 minutes over a pair of shins is not good for any party involved. I appreciate the rough trim that you guys do, but I'd rather have to trim 4 inches of junk plastic off than nearly get into a fist fight over arms and legs lol.

  2. Well when I did it, it was not to replicate the original as I had totally forgotten about that picture... I ended up using two rivets to help pull the sides closer together so that there was not a gap in between the front and back pieces. This was my first time assembling a helmet and I was afraid the screws would not be enough to join the two parts nicely. Once the entire helmet was together, I can see that I probably did not need to do it. But I have a very sturdy helmet now lol.

  3. I'd sure like to see how you have this hooked up.

LOL, you want to see my poor wiring skills?! I put it together very quickly late in the evening so instead of doing it all nice and color coded like I should have it is pretty bad. I'll see if I can get some pictures that make sense tonight. I'll take one of inside the helmet and then pull the wires out of the wire guide tubing and show the entire unit with both fans.

  4. YES!!!! Run the 8 AA rechargeable batteries. The 9volts have a very short life. You get maybe 2 hours out of them running small fans. You get a lot more fan time and amp time using the AA batteries. The 3 extra volts also gives everything a bit of a boost. I find you can mount the two 4 battery packs in the the curved rim of the helmet and wire them in series using the snap connector. Make sure you check your wiring so you don't accidently reverse the power to your amp. I'll post some pics with I get to it. Yes the 8 AA's are heavier but the battery life is well worth it.

Thanks Jim, I gave up on anyone replying to this, so I've been testing it out this week. I have over 8 hours run time on two fans using Duracell AA's. The setup I am using has two 4 battery holders that hookup using a 9v connector. I'm still playing with where to put everything in the helmet so I can easily take it off and on. But otherwise I'm pretty happy. I have everything using velcro right now until I decide on something more permanent.

  5. 1. No - there should be no visible rivets on the shoulder straps.

    2. For EIB side rivets are not required but encouraged. If we can get a good definition as to their size - either exact or what we can consider acceptable and for spacing as well, we can add this to EIB as "nice to have but not required".

You could drill them out and fill in the holes and glue them correctly.

I'm glad they are not a requirement! That will be my saving grace going for EIB since I had a dyslexic moment and put mine on the wrong side lol.

  6. Do people think we're stupid? This is the first time I got one of these emails and I read it and thought, wow do i look like a bumbleing ideot? Ha, say hello to the spam folder.

LOL I know, what I love is the Craig's list frauds. Had a guy inquire on an item, I replied... here is the message from him and my response, needless to say, he never replied back.

    Sir,

You could have saved yourself mucH trouble by simply stating "I am a scammer. Please let me steal your money".

You did not even bother to reply with the same email as before, so I'm supposing someone already had Goggle shut it down.

Please do not reply to me any more. Any new mails from your IP class will be brought to Goggle's attention.

    Good Day.

  7. Thats great, thanks, i will track down the posts. Just think that for my first helmet i would like to experiment without spending big money. I can then aim to get a better more accurate bucket at a later date and use the MRCE one for parties etc.

    Thanks again

Don't get me wrong, the MRCE is a great helmet, but there is work that needs to be done to it. On the other hand, you can purchase a helmet that you will need to trim, assemble and paint for less than $200. Take a look at the ATA helmet builds here :)

  8. Thanks for that. i must say though that after looking at the MRCE helmet and yes yes i know it is one of the cheaper ones but it does look good!

How much moding do you think would be needed to get it looking better? I don't mind moding, infact i would prefer to do the work and make it more individual, especially as i am wanting to build a Sandtrooper kit (Deployed/Dirty)

Also would the 501st accept the MRCE helmet with FX body armor?

    Cheers,

    Jamie

Yes there are many troopers with the MRCE and FX armor. There is a couple good post on how to modify the MRCE.

  9. Welcome! You will find vasts amounts of information here and your local garrison both. A bonus with your local garrison is that you may find someone to help you assemble your armor or they may be having an armor party close enough you can attend. These are great even if you do not have armor yet, as you can see other people's builds and ask questions.

Best advise I can give is this... Do not rush, ask questions and choose the armor based upon knowledge and how much $$ you want to spend. And remember to have fun. If you let the armor become "work" you will either try to rush to finish it and mess something up, or get mad and set it aside and don't finish it.
