  1. Hey everyone!

I was talking to a bud about the original stormtrooper armor and how dodgy the helmet painting and assembly is. I for one love that look!

It got me thinking though. How close to the originals can you be and still be accepted in the FISD?

Can you do Mr No Stripe? That guy is all over ANH (he must have been busy lol).

No brow? Like one at Tatooine.

Gaffa tape? Those are all over?

    Dodgy eye cuts?

    Runnings and flaking on helmet?

I guess Im basically asking if a non idealized trooper would be welcome. Once you know about these things you see them in the films all the time.

  2. Ok so I'm having some problems getting my bucket finished up. Painting won't be a problem, it's the assembly that's making me too scared to even work on it. I'm having trouble getting my faceplate to sit right. I like a high-brow and the problem I'm having is that when I get the brow to where I want it, the front of the cap'n'back sticks out A LOT right above the eyes. Is this problem remedied once I get the ears on? Advice? Suggestions?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I haven't trimmed down the top of the faceplate yet. Other than cutting out the eyes and teeth I haven't cut a thing on the faceplate, so if I trim down the top will that help alleviate my issue? Don't want to do any unnecessary cutting.

It sounds like you need to cut the top of the faceplate so it can sit closer to the cap. To get the raised brow you want to tilt the face.

Have you watched the TK-4510 tutorials? I felt the same way when I started to cut but theese helped alot!

My advice would be to use a promodel helmet (real one is coolest imo) and try to get the look of that. Go slow, cut little by little.

    Hope that gave any tips!

Edit: I missed that you allready used the tuts.

  3. "Lucas has stated that the series will not feature Darth Vader, Palpatine, or any Jedi characters, stating that "The Emperor and Darth Vader are heard about — people talk about them — but you never see them because it doesn't take place where they actually are. There are storm troopers and all that, but there are no Jedis

    quoted from wookiepedia"

Oh I really really hope they would use guys in nice wonky stormtrooper costumes and not go the CGI route! I wouldnt put my money on it though. :(

  4. to: matti

i was going for that look thanks for noticing

lol the eyes were kinda accidental but i like it so i went with it

the neck trim was an accident on my part so im gonna bridge the gap with a lil more of it

there are only 2 screws cause i lost one so i thought itd be weird with 3 on one side and 2 on the other im gonna try and find another matching one

yes ill post pics of the inside in a min

    thanks for the support

    Well deserved Jeffry!

LOL about the eyes, I worked alot to get my eyes looking like the originals.

If you haven glued the necktrim, you could turn it so the gap is behind the vocorder, and the bridge wount be noticeable.

Maybe Terrell could send you replacemnet screws?

  5. In some ways I'm confused that people are confused. The policies are pretty clear and I believe we've applied the standards evenly.

    GF, AP, TM, TE2

These are considered OK. GF actually no longer makes armor, so should be a moot point. AP long ago was cleared as having acquired the molds as part of a transaction from TE and is thus OK. And, he's been doing it so long w/o any objection from anyone I'm not sure why it would be an issue. TM is a fan sculpt and thus 100% OK. TE2 like AP got molds from TE in a very open transaction and is also OK.

    CAP (Chris AKA weiBes)

Direct molds of CAP are considered OK as best we've been able to determine, while he did recast TE somehow they made a deal. I've only seen parts of emails, but this is what we have and the community seems to have agreed and thus CAP is fine. CAP2 has some parts from TM & crashman (?) that are considered bad form, and it would be great to hear people's thoughts on this. Lastly, not all CAP parts are recast - he made is belt (at the least, it's different from TE) it seems. CAP also said he doesn't care if people recast him.

ATA is direct recast of CAP and took the steps to replace parts that were not OK (TM knee, control panel). Since he's done that, there seems to be no objections.

Scootch (CAP WEST) - pretty much the same as ATA though these are Chris' molds and not a recast of them. We've applied the same standard to ATA - replace the TM/crashman parts and will then be fine to sell. Sandtrooper should be fine (as someone asked).

PT - 100% not OK. He lied about his intent and then made a direct recast of TE2. He's no longer a Legion member either.

VT - fate undetermined. No one will claim to be him and since he's not tried selling on these boards I've ignored it for now. Should the real VT stand up it can be discussed at that time.

Pretty much direct recasting anyone's molds without permission is just a bad thing to do, regardless of how many generations it's removed.

I think it's pretty clear in the community that recasting any fan sculpt is flat out dishonest.

Some exceptions seems to be allowed, e.g. C6 was fine to recast when he stopped selling helmets, but everyone stopped doing that once he started again. IOW, it seems if people stop making parts.

    TE

While TE has been banned from these boards for bad business practices, you'll note we allow the selling of TE suits as being OK if done via an honest intermediary, e.g. someone who delivers on time & is transparent in their dealings.

    FX

Like TE this is done via an intermediary. Ward (Deckard) has been openly selling on these boards for a looooong time because he is delivering quality, direct made kits at a good price and provides excellent customer service.

    Recast FX

Nope, bad form just like selling recast TM.

To me this post pretty much answers everything and IMO clears up the questions asked.
