Kevster - yeah, the front is 2 acrylic sheet discs with a couple of hex bolts on a wood backing plug. I'll get pics of that and the other side soon as poss.
Sskunky - Thanks mate! I've tried to line up everything up as close as I can, using real sterling pics as well as other E11 builds detailed here.
The one bit I've had to adjust is the stock rail, I had to cut a notch in it where it hits the mag housing. Looks like the hinge base behind the grip is just a little high.

Here's my 'almost' scratchbuilt E11 wip.
Whilst my workshop build has been put off (severe lack of funds) I commandeered a corner of the lounge to finish this build, started a looong time ago.
The scope and counter were to be scratchbuilt, but I went for the excellent Doopy Doos pieces instead to encourage me to finish the blaster!
Not shown is the mag housing, which was cut from sheet steel (a side panel from an old PC) folded up and is now glueing together.
I plan to cover the grip with filler, sand into shape and file-in the diamond pattern.
There's a way to go yet - but it'll be worth it! It won't be screen accurate but a lot closer than my Hasbro at any rate.

Progress!
The mag housing has been formed up. I'll cut slots in the main body to push it into. I've made the muzzle detail with acrylic sheet. There'll be another trigger piece to glue to the existing one - sandwiched together they'll give a bit of depth. Nothing is fixed/glued properly yet.. I'll do some filling/sanding/priming first - then get busy with the bondo.

I just got my resin scope and counter from Doopydoos - hot DAMN that's some fine casting! Update pics soon.

Of course that's yout T track there in the pic - ordered and sent a full year ago!
I've just picked up a nice sheet of clear acrylic to make the front cap from. I tried wood - but the large holes required meant that the drill bits kept splitting the piece - even when stepping up through several drill sizes.
Front sight is shaped and test fit in the barrel - pics soon.
Oh, and I drew blood for the first time on this build - damn craft blade went into the meat between thumb and forefinger - a little nick but it bled like hell! Still, chicks dig scars right? lol
The wife just gave me that 'remember you're putting the xmas tree up now right?' look - so I'll update after that.

This is the first scratch build I've attempted - I've never had the proper tools before. It's great fun but very frustrating too - I wish I had access to a machine shop. lol
Still, the workbench and the kitchen table are doing a fine job 'till I get my shed next year.

A little more progress...
There's front and back sights, front roughly cut out.
Mag housing which I've started to bend-up.
Inner barrel.
Scope rail - part formed.
Butt-cap and front cap with hex bolts for front cap detail.
Main body with brass bar coil spring in rear.
Trigger guard.
Stock pieces and T track.
The brass coil was a complete b1tch to form up - it's 4mm rod and I shaped it around a broom handle.. Very sore hands after that.
The trigger guard is pretty heavy guage steel - I didn't want anything too flimsy..
Lots still to do, but seeing it all together is encouraging - and I get the feeling that once I start putting these pieces in place it'll soon look like it's meant to..

There will be a couple of resin pieces (at least at first) - scope and counter from Doopydoos. They'll probably need heavy modding to get them up to spec though.. lol

A long long time ago I started a PVC tube E11 inspired by the work of members here including Smitty's awesome run of folding stock models.
Fast forward a ludicrously busy year, and I'm back doing a bit more..
Here I've assembled the core elements for a test fitting. The butt cap is a rough blank which will be turned on my lathe (well, OK it'll be turned on my power-drill-jammed-in-a-workbench pretend lathe)..
There's also a couple of pieces of ali sheet stock which will be front/back sight pieces.
Next I donated a side panel from an old PC to become the mag housing..
2 or 3 dremel cutting disks later and we have a mag housing ready to be folded up.
I tried to photograph the texture on the PC case, since I'll try to keep this on the final article..
I've just begun turning the butt-cap, so I'll post more progress later.

You look fine in the picture, so if you're the kind of guy who gets bugged by small but annoying inaccuracies in your armour, then perhaps an MRCE isn't for you. Yes, it's cheap - but there's a lot of modding to be done to bring it up to spec... Personally, the cost won out for me, but horses for courses and all that.

You're really gonna need an interior space if you want any control over where the paint is going, as you hinted before. Wherever you do it, if you're using rattle cans you'll get a fine dust of dry paint particles settling on everything, so be aware that you'll need to clean up after! Do you have any friends/relatives with a garage or room they aren't using at present??
If you really hve to do it outside, set up a big cardboard box on it's side and put your helmet in that - to make a temporary spray-booth. This will deflect the wind and give you more control.

I'm going the 'no paint' route in my MRCE mod.
Be aware though that there's already paint on the helmet and if you sand the surface, chances are you'll go through it to the off-white styrene underneath. I'm going to finish mine with plumbers white silicone for the frown join and see just how far you can go without a re-paint. Any spilled over-run silicone should come off with t-cut or similar polish, or wet & dry fine grain sandpaper.

I'm gonna try thinning the ears on my MR CE too. I don't want to start doing anything which will require a re-paint, since I don't reckon on my chances of maching this nice white finish... I'll need to sand down some of the visible seams, and t-cut the shine back up too. There's a guy on another forum (I'll post if I can find it) who slimmed down the ear inner discs too, to lessen the 'two part' look. I've scoped out bolts and ear screws too. Pics when I get going.

Well, so far I've been scouring my local hardware store for PVC pipe etc to build an E11, pulled the crap lenses and padding out of my MR CE lid, ordered a set of nomex gloves and a voice changer kit from Smitty, so I'm on my way.
As I said in my first post - I built my first suit out of cardboard aged 14 in '77. Now I'm 45 and finally have the skills and (hopefully) the cash to do a 'proper job'.
It's great to get back in touch with the younger me.

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys. I'm aware that I'm going to be hawking my other collectibles on ebay to fund this hobby - but it's too cool to pass up.
Re: The Motorcycle races - Yup, that's the TT races, held in June each year. I'm a news cameraman, so I get to film the event, though I miss out on a lot of the racing (damn press conferences).

QFT - Quoted for Truth... I'm already looking at white silicone for my 'split' frown on the MR CE lid, plus darker lenses, AND better padding. And that's before I start to look at fixing the ears, or widening the gaps in the frown teeth, or adding fans and a pre-amp. Sheesh.
Then there's an e11 to look at - oh, and the rest of the suit!!

..is exactly what I am. A few days ago I didn't know what a TK was or what 501st meant.
Then I bought one of the MR 'buckets' available on Play.com. I was so impressed with it, I wanted to mod the inside, adding a radio, fans and such.
That brought me here! I already knew of TK409 (who works at Epic computer games studios) since I have worked in the game industry, but - wow - what a community there is here! And quite a few fellow brits too.
I have to save some cash first, then I can get to grips with some of the projects you guys are involved in.
I'll fill out my profile presently - but I'm old enough to have built my first trooper suit out of white cardboard (sans helmet - I couldn't afford it) aged 14 in 1977.

There are other little bits I've collected, bolt heads and such, but they'll go on much later.
Now I know that everything fits and works together, I'll have to to strip it down again, sand/fill all the joins, fill all the wood-grain and prime the main body ready for paint.
