  1. The decals aren't coming off cleanly for me. Instead of buying new ones, I might try my hand at painting. I've been scouring the forums but haven't found any good info on hand-painting the traps and such. Do you all know of any good threads or videos?
  2. @Scimitar there is no such thing as unsolicited advice on this thread! I need all the help I can get! Your comments and pics were super helpful. Just so I'm clear, are you using that same nylon webbing for the straps that you are for the snap plates? I couldn't quite tell from the pictures. Secondly, I haven't researched the shoulder pieces yet. I've noticed that you have some white material with the snaps. Is that elastic or plastic? I'm sure it will make sense once I get to that part!
  3. Thank you friends! Seriously you all inspire me!
  4. Alright dude, you are a scholar and a gentleman. I shall PM (or is it DM?) you
  5. You are super generous! I wouldn't want to take your stuff, though, as I'm sure it's good to have backups, just in case!
  6. Thanks friend Yes, I couldn't tell if I stretched out the decals when I was putting them on, or just put them too high up. I'll try to get them off (if I can) and reapply them. If not, I may just paint. I have to paint the rank bars anyway so I might as well get some more practice! Thanks for the encouragement! You all build my confidence. Wish we could hang out irl! (look at me getting all emotional)
  7. Great tips on aligning the stripes. If it gets to the point where I can't get Centurion because of it I'll fork over the $10 or so to get my third set lol Guess I'll head to Amazon for some elastic now. I'll probably keep using the nylon for the snap plates since I have it. I think once they're glued down, I won't have the issue of them pulling out of the nylon. He said confidently. Thanks for the help all, you guys keep me from throwing in the (very expensive) towel!
  8. The Hovi-tips came painted so I'll see about sanding them some. I was using as a reference for doing the snaps. Seemed to indicate using nylon but perhaps I didn't read all the way through. I have a butt-ton of nylon strapping now ha ha
  9. I apologize for the constant despairing posts. I compare myself to other builds and everyone seems to be getting this more than I do. Anyway, I just put my second set of decals on the right side. Originally they were moving away on the front. This time they're moving away on the back. Sigh. I was too worried about my lack of painting experience so I went with the decals where I could. Honestly, those were more of a pain to put on than I anticipated. I might take them off at some point and paint. I've got a couple coats on the vocoder and one on the teeth. Let me know where I need to fix things. I bought an s-trim that I'll put on when I get the screws painted. Are the screws countersunk enough for Centurion? The lens material got a couple small bends in it so I'm either gonna have to buy some new stuff or see if I can cut out enough of the existing for the eye holes and use the sugrue method. 10. Good to know @Doggydoc. Perhaps I'll need to upgrade. My wife sure has been patient with me as the cash keeps being funneled into this armor Great idea about the template @gmrhodes13! Definitely going to do that.
  11. I did another set of snaps tonight. One of them was better aligned, the other was not. The problem I am having is that when I snap the two ends together they are so hard to pull apart. To the point where if I pull too hard the nylon starts ripping. I am using the line 24 Tandy snaps. While, I think it's great they are secure, it's not going to work if I can barely take them apart. Do you think that's the nature of the snaps themselves, or is it because I'm not setting them correctly? Or maybe it's the nylon I have is super crappy. I thought what I got was same as what others are using but maybe I cheaped out!
  12. Awesome buddy!! Excited to see the final product!!
  13. I will try that! Also, what's a good starting place to begin attaching straps?
  14. So I've been doing some touch up painting on the helmet and will send pics later. I started practicing doing snaps. This is dumb. First off, when I use my soldering iron to try and seal the edges of the nylon, it just makes a sticky mess and doesn't really seal them well. Secondly, I put a few snaps on and , obviously I need to work on my alignment issues, but even then snapping the two sides together is super difficult and getting them unsnapped is just as hard! In fact, while trying to pull one of the snaps off, it just started tearing the nylon. I am using Tandy line 24 snaps. Just using the snap setting tools with a hammer to set them. Any tips? 15. Thanks all! You're fast with those references! Exactly what I needed. Definitely a learning curve for the painting. Using a toothpick seems to be helping with the edges. Also, got my new decals coming from Trooperbay as I couldn't cleanly take the other ones off! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  16. I'm working on painting the vocoder. I can't find any visual references for what the underside of it should look like. Anyone have these handy? Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  17. You are so right! Definitely veering the wrong direction. I'll carefully attempt a fix tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  18. Tube stripe decals. That was super stressful putting them on!! Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk
  19. There is no particular instruction book, but lots of references and videos on YouTube for learning. I'm only a few months in to my very first armor build and I can tell you that the community here is incredible and will answer any and every question you have!
  20. Vulcan salute hahaha I must be missing something. What white plate are you talking about? My kit came with the silicone and also some plastic guards but I just assumed it was so I had a choice. Do the plastic ones go on top of the silicon?? Applying these things is a lot more complicated than anticipated! Genuinely considering trying using Velcro. Then if I needed to replace my gloves it would be easy to switch out the guards!
  21. The stuff that @revlimiter suggested above may be the key. It has a plastics primer on it so I'll probably try that.
  22. @Doggydoc that's good info. I think the loctite that @revlimiter suggested is CA glue but I'll have to double check. My biggest concern is that it sounds rather permanent so if I misalign it, I'm out of luck!
  23. I'm having a hard time finding the Tandy 24 snaps here. That, and the ones I did find were crazy expensive. I get that you don't want to cheap-out on them for sure. But, has anyone found any alternative brands that still hold up well?
  24. The other day I tried gluing one of the flexible handguards to the glove using E-6000. Epic failure. When I put the glue onto the handguard, it just rolls off. I tried sanding it based on the instructions in one of the forums, but you can't really sand silicon or latex or whatever it is. Any other suggestions? Thought about maybe a different method like velcro or something!
