    Nice work, Erick. :-)

As per FB, you mentioned the forearms being a little loose - it looks like you could reduce the circumference of them for a more snug fit. At the wrist end you should just about be able to squeeze your mad through (without gloves).

Also, if you wanted a challenge you could try trimming the ears down a little more. ;-)

Keep yo the good work. :-)

I think I'm gonna call it a win on my ears for now. My nerves are still shot from the first time trimming. :icon_eek: I think my biggest problem with the ears is the angle. I'm gonna take a look at them this weekend and really take some time adjusting them. The forearms are perfect as far as getting them over my hands. The problem is after I get them on, my skinny forearms don't hold them anywhere they just slide around. I fixed this by adding a strap from the bicep to the forearm and that made all the difference in the world. They fit just right now and don't wiggle around anymore. Thank you so much for the help. :smiley-sw013:

  2. I got a little too excited trimming the ears. Reflecting back at my actions I made a fatal error. I didn't check any reference pictures. I assumed that the bottom of the ear wrapped all the way to the bottom of the bucket. In all actuality, it sits kind of high on the cheek. Thinking that it wraps all the way down I trimmed to that and you can see the contour is right but the ear itself sits way too low. Luckily ATA send 2 pairs of lefts and rights just for idiots like me! Thank you ATA!!! All in all I spent many hours this weekend in my workshop and enjoyed every minute. Even the few setbacks!75af31918bdc9e1bbe23b38327f49316.jpg&key=235ea41c74b66fd1b4feabc1948fee068b627255a7cc6ece55be56b98b1ddb86b9cc209a1578a93394f3caa4b5764e8c.jpg&key=07763ba96756c7238c136d8601db1d7c0132c662ad7b586a8fce790b2642b5412b6619545be6a65d432d21dfb283e324.jpg&key=dcd07cd83333199039d82722fd3e3fcaaadccd7114e7cff87d1b6c57de6875c1

That’s a great feeling to be done trimming for sure. Have you given consideration to the level of accuracy you’re shooting for with your build?

To be honest...... I would like to shoot for Centurion but I also think that just being approved and then making tweeks as I go to get there would be ok too.

  4. A Saturday well spent. Some test fitting. Almost done trimming. And found the strength to drill some holes in the bucket! Please let me know what you see and what I might want to fix. I gotta say I'm really enjoying this process. I was really scared and nervous at the beginning but now I'm loving every minute! e6547e597198d44c0d1a342b4f94c926.jpg3fdfe67e5cd903334d4bffa96f7595b4.jpgcadc1a0e3ffd7045f86bbf2ae88d96d2.jpg574d7219ea5c6914dcd69f85304faea1.jpgc1f1759713c73e92c159905b80d82a7b.jpg301ae9d8f16ae95b61bd657a91f10cbc.jpg94ae83325d0e92a316c8956618f2db9f.jpg883c2096c5b140f69b76433d750e05d3.jpga92fda94c55cf50c48df025dbee784e5.jpg

  5. So after some time spent feeling really good about my progress I took the tape and clamps off and was immediately disappointed. I totally hate the way these peices came out. I think by putting strips on the inside I ended up making it harder for myself with the outside ones to get a perfect fit. The saving grace is that I chose to use E6000 and not zap a gap. Thank you to all who pushed me in that direction. The thing I'm taking away from this is that sh!@ happens, live and learn, and all those other cat posters. I'm taking a day off of building. Tomorrow I'll tear these things apart, clean them off and start over with a clear head. Failure is not an option but it is a temporary shot in the stomach. I'll be in the corner licking my wounds. 75a54bb745f8dede8e8ba946084db9d0.jpg&key=a74471b0d3da420daa8e310db576e50ab3a5ab3fe58415a3c80871227708af8cf871c441880fa29944530446338edf48.jpg&key=b64faa0fa7a55aa53d6d19088c1916d7137b78d8c0142bbc92131d7e7b93e0315673a6f86dce6ddfc16ba3a5ea5120b3.jpg&key=743c4c2c906c8e8982721b120dfbe98e8efd3659853e38a8ed1a5f9ecc80bbeeceb0287379077d9a48033b4ae9a6e9af.jpg&key=f7100d80a3f8522d9123a742a8dc3a4b3628ac65e7ec9c88062269189c1c7874

  6. Nice job so far, Eric!  Something you could think about before gluing the other side of the forearms together is that there is quite a bit of return edge on both ends, and they look a little ragged.  Removing it all is not a requirement for Basic approval, but I would suggest trimming them down (before gluing) for 2 reasons:

    1.  If you will be (hopefully) aiming for level 2 or above, removing all the return edges from the wrist side will be necessary.  If you glue it first, when you go to trim them down the openings will be a lot wider.  Too wide in most cases.

    2.  Removing them (at least at the top) will help prevent "armor bite", which is when the edges cut into you while you bend your arms (which will be a LOT).  I am including some photos of screen used armor to give you a better idea of what I mean.

                                                                                                                                                                                          Reference images

Some folks like the look of return edges, which give the armor a "thicker" look, but depending on the particular piece these can be an issue for some.  For instance, trimming all the edge off of the bottom of the shoulder bells will allow them to ride closer to the bicep.

Keep up the great work and keep those photos coming!
Thank you for all the great info! I was planning on trimming the return edges off on the forearms. My feeling about return edges is this. I like the way they look but I'm not going to compromise comfort. I have zero experience wearing these kinds of things so, I figured I'd keep some return edge and see how it all comes together and how it fits. After that I can cut more off if needed. Please correct me if my thinking is flawed. Also I have a question about the forearms. Do I just glue the other side or can I use velcro to make it easier to put on? Thanks again for taking the time. It's really appreciated.

  7. So I decided to start on the bucket. I gotta tell you my nerves got the best of me. I muscled through it and I think it came out pretty good. Still gotta touch up some things but all in all I'm happy with it. Using the dremmel on the eyes was alot easier than I thought it was going to be. Till next time.7dbb5aa2b71936e65180ea0e4d824aa4.jpg0d6f8a1d146b5a6a07f5af06fb3dd0ee.jpgd62a5149a30230f4be5b81030cfc8df4.jpge7f4d21785ae7b1d0aab916c105fa585.jpgea5af98aa77ce4efd3e28748583fd7b7.jpg
