  1. Hi everyone. My progress has been slow secondary to life but I have made progress on torso trimming. I have left a 1/8 return on everything except the bracket returns at 3/8. One thing I noticed on the kidney notches I was hoping to get some advice. It’s an RS kit and the notches are already present. Problem is they don’t measure 22x22 nor do they line up with the butt edge as you can see here. The left is close to right size but the right is only 15 mm deep. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171214/72266414402829ee015c692c7dfaced4.jpg[/ Soooo.... if I’m trying to stick to centurion standards I have to cut these deeper and then cut the butt back on both edges thus losing my return edge. Or I just leave it as is and hope for the best? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Though I would post a follow up. I think I’m finally done with my helmet so I’m sharing a few photos. Thank you to everyone who weighed in with advice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Hi again. Made a bit of progress on my lid. What do you guys think about my eye holes? Ok or more trimming needed? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Thanks for the tips. Just applied your suggestions. While I'm at it here could I grab another suggestion? How do you recommend trimming this right forearm piece? It's got an odd profile and I don't want to over cut it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I picked up those files Joseph and worked on the teeth. Think I'm good to go? Lame-o. Check out trooperbays helmet build video. I watched it twice where he clamped the faceplate to the top before drilling. I just ignored the tip when it came time to do it [emoji12] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks so much for all the advice and support! I removed the ears this morning and tightened up the brow. The ears are also sitting a bit better now as well I think . Other than the inside looking like a colander now from the ear repositioning I'm happy now. Thanks again guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. oops. I just realized I posted this in the wrong spot and not in the subforum. Apologies.
  8. I recently received my RS sandtrooper kit a couple of weeks ago. It didn't take me long to realize that I don't have the heart to weather up that beautiful shiny white armor. Plus TKs are just way too cool. I wasn't going to do a build thread at first however I realized two things. First is that I'm too anal retentive perfectionist and will need input from others before I drive myself nuts over imperfections. Second, after posting a question earlier about my helmet. I realized how helpful and nice everyone here is. I am aiming for centurion from the start so keep that in mind. I have started on the biceps and left forearm. A couple of things I have noticed. I saw in some instructional videos clipping the edges of the cover strips however didn't notice it most of the accepted centurion builds. Did I overdo those? Should I remove them or is it fine? Should I let that gap on the edge of the bicep go? Another cover strip view Left forearm. What do you think about that slightly misaligned edge? Was planning on progressing to right forearm and then legs tomorrow however don't want to continue with the same errors if something should be fixed. Thanks everyone. Glad to be here. 9. Thanks for the tip! When you sand down the heads are you trying to actually reduce the head thickness to make them lie flush more or are you just roughing them up for paint adhesion? Ill check out that link now.
  10. Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. I wasn't going to do a build thread but maybe now I will since I want to aim for centurion from the start. I suspect I will have many more detail questions and there is clearly plenty of wisdom here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Hello everyone. This is my first build and looking for some honest critique. I'm working on my RS helmet and have just attached the ears. Are the ear gaps too wide? They are driving the perfectionist in me nuts however as I look at various pics and screenshots there seems to be a fair amount of variety there. Is it normal to have a gap like that under the front rim or should that be tight? Would love some honest advice. Also please let me know if I messed up the picture links. I'm new to this. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Hi everyone. I have started work on my DLT using the happytrooper build while awaiting my armor. I decided to use pine for the stock and body for ease of working and to keep it lightweight. Now that I have those cut and sanded I have concerns about its softness. Has anyone ever tried any coating that can be put on before or after painting/ priming to give it a tougher exterior? I was considering filler primer but have never used it. Anyone aware of any brand of spray on gel coat or epoxy? Thanks.
